The Villainess Files for Divorce (& Accidentally Marries Final Boss)

Chapter 6: The Past Returns

[Location: Lilly's Apartment – Evening]

The soft glow of the chandelier flickered as Lilly set down her glass of wine, the faint hum of the city stretching beyond the large windows of her apartment. The night outside felt still, but the tension curling at the edges of her thoughts made the air inside feel heavier than it should.

She glanced at the faint red number hovering in the corner of her vision.

[Rocky Chan: -44 (Hatred)]

The descent had slowed.

Lilly leaned back against the couch, the silk of her emerald dress pooling around her legs as she exhaled softly. The divorce was moving forward without resistance. Rocky wasn't fighting her, not openly. But the flicker of his meter told her that something was stirring beneath the surface.

A knock at the door pulled her from her thoughts.

She didn't move immediately.

It was late—too late for anyone to visit without calling first.

The knock came again, firmer this time.

Lilly's brow arched faintly as she crossed the room, her fingers brushing against the cool handle of the door. She opened it without hesitation.

Rocky Chan stood on the other side, his gaze sharp and unreadable beneath the dim hallway light.

Lilly's fingers relaxed on the handle, but she didn't step aside.

"Rocky," she greeted smoothly. "I wasn't expecting you."

His eyes flickered, tracing the curve of her dress, lingering on the faint glow of the dragon-shaped diamond earrings dangling from her ears.

[-45]

Lilly noticed the drop immediately.

Interesting.

"Nice earrings," Rocky remarked, his voice flat. "Let me guess—Victor Zhou?"

Lilly's lips curved faintly, but she didn't confirm or deny it. "I didn't think you paid attention to jewelry."

Rocky's hand tightened at his side, but his expression didn't shift.

"I need to talk to you," he said, his tone clipped.

Lilly arched a brow. "About?"

Rocky's eyes met hers, dark and steady. "Anna."

Of course.

Lilly stepped back, gesturing him inside without a word.

Rocky's meter shifted faintly as he entered, his gaze flickering around the apartment.

The space was immaculate, untouched by the chaos their marriage had left behind. There were no traces of Rocky here. Lilly had made sure of that.

But as Rocky's eyes traced the room, something in his posture stiffened.

[-43]

Lilly settled back into the armchair, her fingers lightly trailing along the rim of her glass.

"She's been calling me nonstop," Rocky began, pacing slightly by the window. "I assume you know why."

Lilly's gaze didn't waver.

"She's trying to secure her place," she replied calmly. "You didn't expect that?"

Rocky's eyes narrowed faintly. "I expected subtlety. Not constant appearances at my office."

Lilly smiled faintly. "Anna's never been subtle."

Rocky's grip on the windowsill tightened, his reflection darkened by the city lights beyond.

"She says you've been ignoring her," he continued, his voice lowering. "She thinks you're planning something."

Lilly tilted her head slightly, watching him carefully.

"And what do you think, Rocky?"

His eyes flicked to hers.

For a long moment, neither of them spoke.

"I think Anna's not as harmless as she pretends to be," Rocky said finally. "And I think you know that better than anyone."

[-42]

Lilly swirled the wine in her glass, letting his words hang between them.

Anna's meter hovered steadily in the corner.

[Anna Feng: +92 (Like)]

Climbing.

"She's useful to you," Lilly said softly, though the words carried weight. "That's all that matters."

Rocky's gaze sharpened. "Is that how you see it?"

Lilly's eyes met his directly. "That's how you taught me to see it."

His meter flickered faintly.

[-40]

The tension in the room shifted, curling like smoke around them.

Rocky took a slow breath, his hand dragging lightly over the back of the couch.

"You were never supposed to walk away this easily," he murmured.

Lilly arched a brow. "Did you expect me to beg?"

Rocky's jaw tightened. "I expected something."

[-39]

There was a faint crack beneath the surface—just enough to see through.

Lilly set her glass down with quiet precision, the soft clink echoing through the room.

"You wanted me to fight," she said calmly, standing as she crossed the space between them. "And now that I haven't, you're realizing how boring it is when no one plays the game."

Rocky didn't answer, but the way his eyes lingered on her spoke louder than words.

[-37]

Lilly smiled faintly, brushing her hair behind her ear.

"You have Anna," she added lightly, moving past him toward the door. "Let her keep fighting for you. I'm not interested."

Rocky's hand caught her wrist just before she reached the handle.

The touch was firm—hesitant but deliberate.

Lilly's gaze flicked to his hand, and then to the faint flicker of his meter.

[-35]

She could feel the weight of his attention, the subtle shift in the air as his grip lingered for just a beat too long.

But Lilly didn't pull away.

Instead, she met his gaze with quiet calm, her voice soft but cutting.

"You're holding onto something that doesn't exist anymore, Rocky."

His grip loosened, falling away entirely.

Lilly opened the door, stepping aside to let him pass.

Rocky hesitated, his eyes flickering over her one last time before he finally crossed the threshold.

As he disappeared down the hall, the soft glow of the meter followed him.

[-33]

Lilly exhaled slowly, shutting the door behind him.

The game wasn't over.

But Rocky Chan was no longer the prize she was chasing.
