Chapter 21: These Negotiations Between Me And You
It was now only 2 days before the entrance examination of the academy.
Adam could finally move like a normal person again. His body was completely healed.
It was now time for him to leave for the capital but before that, he had some business to take care of with the Raikiri Guild.
It is said that a man with the burden of many responsibilities can't help but think about his bank balance and right now, all Adam could think of was his bad financial situation.
It was time to change that.
Adam made his way to the Raikiri guild office. The receptionist saw him walk in through the front door and immediately bowed towards him and showed him the way upstairs where Anita was awaiting his arrival.
As he moved through the guild office many people swarmed him asking about his identity, congratulating him for becoming the Hero of Brahken, and other Superficial formalities just to form a connection with Adam.
Funnily enough, nobody knew who Adam was. The Duke didn't let that information get out while reporting the incident at the cemetery.
Looking at Adam, with his handsome facial structure and defined and chiseled body showing through his noble attire, nobody knew this was Adam Dacre Alastair.
Because to the world, Adam Dacre Alastair was a fat and ugly loser who was short and had a horrible childish temper.
Adam dealt with these people while wearing a subtle smile, he had a lot of experience with networking and dealing with people at social events because, in his past life, he had to go to many social events that were hosted by the societal elites of his past life.
It was important for him to go to such meetings because if you're not part of the cool club, then you're nothing but an obstacle to be dealt with.
This old wisdom stands true in every social setting be it kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, and high school.
People who run the status quo have a disdain for other people who bring about change to the status quo.
If you don't fit in, they will make sure that you never fit in.
There is no point in treating all these leeches trying to cling to Adam for his recent accolades badly.
Making people think that you're willing to work with them while slowly cutting them off is the best way to deal with these leeches.
Adam exchanged pleasantries with all of these people and made his way upstairs with the receptionist.
He would like to believe that he doesn't even remember the faces or the names of all the people he just interacted with but he knew, [CALCULATOR] would never let him forget anything.
As Adam opened the door to the private meeting room Anita was waiting for him in, he saw something he had never seen in the game before.
The Guildmaster of the Raikiri Guild was wearing a pink short skirt and a crop top with a chest window.
The outfit didn't seem to suit her since her measurements were a little too big for the aesthetic the outfit was trying to portray.
Adam didn't appreciate how attractive and sexy she looked.
She had ended up sending Adam's urges on overdrive with what she was wearing.
Adam didn't like that.
The last thing Adam wanted was to be distracted by his natural urges while he was in such a dire situation in this world.
As always, his body refused to listen to him. Some things never change, be it in his past life or next life.
The only silver lining here was the fact that Adam had already sat down in front of her so he wouldn't be pitching a tent or feeling uncomfortable.
Suddenly a system message popped up
|| SUDDEN QUEST!
OBJECTIVE: MAINTAIN EYE CONTACT WITH ANITA UNTIL THE NEGOTIATION IS COMPLETED.
REWARD: 1 CE
FAILURE PENALTY: HOST BECOMES IMPOTENT. ||
(SYSTEM TIP: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)
It seemed that the system wasn't even hiding its contempt towards Adam anymore.
This quest was only for its amusement and didn't help Adam in any way whatsoever.
But It was fine. Adam knew how to maintain eye contact. There had never been a moment in his past life where a girl said "My eyes are up here." to him.
Looking straight into her eyes with a smile on his face, Adam spoke to Anita.
"So does the guildmaster always dress up like this for negotiation?"
"Well, I normally never show up myself for any negotiations I leave that to the vice guildmaster. This a special occasion you know?"
It seemed as though a silent battle of the wits had started, both participants had subconsciously gone into a war of attrition, trying to determine who would get embarrassed or have their cheeks flushed first.
"So does the guildmaster mean to say that I'm quite special to her?"
"Of course you are Adam, I don't do everything I did for you or show off my wardrobe or even myself to most other people."
Anita was really good. It had been a long time since Adam faced a girl who actually knew how to flirt.
'My god, she always knows what to say, doesn't she? No wonder she is fictional.'
If flirting and the game didn't work, Adam had other weapons at his disposal.
Assets.
If a woman isn't affected by your confidence and social skills, throw an outrageous amount of money at her. Let's see how she can remain calm after that.
"So Anita, I have brought some equipment that I believe would pique your interest."
With a snap of his fingers, one unit of [Dark Knight Set] popped out in Adam's hands out of thin air.
Handing it over to Anita as he spoke.
"I was thinking of selling these to you, how much would you be willing to pay for these?"
"These are pretty rare to come by Adam. Did you find these in the cemetery? The quality of these is amazing I am willing to give you 100 gold for this piece."
"Umm Anita, that's not the only piece I want to sell to you I was thinking of selling this in bulk."
"Oh, you have more? How many do you want to sell?"
"I have 100,000 of these to sell."
Anita's eyes nearly popped out of her skull at what she heard.
Trying really hard to maintain her composure she said.
"Adam you're joking right?"
"Heh, you think I'm joking? In that case, I will just show you."
"What do you mean sho-"
Before she could even finish her sentence, Adam snapped his fingers and the entire room got filled up with Dark Knight Armour Sets, 100,000 pieces.
Her mouth was left wide open at the scenery in front of her, just like that crop top was holding on to dear life because of the sheer mass it was trying to cover with that chest window, the same way her lower jaw was holding on for dear life to not fall onto the floor.
Anita's reaction was understandable, this was Endgame armour that was only available when the Fall of the Empire quest line began and both the Demon Kingdom and the Darkus Maximus went full throttle trying to destroy the world.
This armour was made of solidified dark mana that seeped in through the memory of the armour that dead soldiers had worn on the battlefield during their dying day. It was resistant to the elements and nearly unbreakable without multiple aura strikes.
Armour worthy for a select few from the King's most elite battalion.
Now you might be wondering about why Adam can make so much money so easily by selling this equipment and that if drops were 100% confirmed then wouldn't that destroy the economy of the world?
Well, you see just as easy as it was to earn money by selling end-game equipment, the way to lose money was just as easy as well.
Character upgrades cost a lot of gold almost as much as the price for an entire noble estate just for a 2% increase in damage in the end game.
Earning a lot of money means nothing if you are going broke the very next day.
It had now been a good 2 minutes since the bombshell Adam had dropped on Anita.
Her mouth felt really dry after staying open all this time.
Her brain was completely fried as she couldn't even comprehend how it was possible for the man in front of her to have this much equipment on his person and that too of such high caliber.
She knew the guild didn't have the money to buy all of it. Not even the king's treasury has 100,000 platinum coins to spare on a whim.
The yearly expenditure of the empire takes 1000 platinum coins. 100,000 platinum coins could run the entire empire for 100 years.
The ball was now on Adam's side of the court. He had all of it planned from the start to take advantage of the negotiation.
Besides, he didn't want all that money in the first place. He was aiming for something different.
"Hahaha, you should see the look on your face, don't worry, I don't expect you to pay me 100,000 platinum coins I think we can reach an understanding that would benefit the both of us, I'm not here to rob you."
Anita tilted her head. She was skeptical but she knew Adam wouldn't try to scam her because she believed that Adam was quite indebted to her for all the help she gave him.
She also believed Adam was a good person.
Boy was she wrong.
Adam had her right where he wanted her. It was now to reap the rewards.
"So here is the deal, I will sell this to you for 10 silver coins each. But in return, you need to buy a manor for me in the capital and put Henrietta as its owner."
Anita couldn't believe what she had just heard. She could buy a 100,000 Dark Knight Armour Sets with just 100 platinum coins and the manor would cost at most 1 platinum coin. This was a steal for her but she couldn't help but feel bad for Adam who she felt was the one suffering a loss in this deal.
'Why is he always so nice to me? Did he fall for me or something?'
'No no no Adam, you can't do that, look at the difference in our ages, people will find you weird if they saw you with an old woman like me...'
It seems as though Anita had gone deep into her fantasies which Adam was completely oblivious to.
They end up signing a mana contract for the trade and shake on it.
Adam could see a bittersweet smile on her face as they shook hands which was inexplicable to him.
'Shouldn't she be happy that she got the best deal of her life? Why is she sad?'
Little did he know, she felt sad for Adam and had already started hatching a plan to repay him in some way in the future.
Adam didn't consider this deal to be a loss either since this equipment was worthless to him. He couldn't wear it due to its stat requirements and he didn't need it in the academy either since personal equipment wasn't allowed on campus.
It was time for him to leave Brahken, Anita had already bought the Manor for him and given him the deed to it.
Mastery of the spatial element is truly fascinating.
He ended up borrowing a car from the Raikiri Guild which Anita ended up giving to him for free which did surprise him since it wasn't part of the deal.
This car was similar to a Porsche 911 Carrera 4s but with some very mystical and rustic design choices. Making for a car that looked truly classical and easy on the eyes.
As a car nut, Adam loved this.
Our thick-headed villain wondered how a guild master could just give away such prized possessions on a whim and wondered how this guild was able to stay afloat with such a whimsical guild master.
Little did our thick-brained Adam know, it was because she pitied him. And people barely used cars anyway, mana rails were so much faster and more convenient as well as safe.
Warp gates were also present for instantaneous travel.
The only person who actually cared about cars in this world was probably Adam.
After having Henrietta sit right beside him, it was time to leave.
Driving this car felt great, as he joined the main highway of the empire with the smoothest of roads.
While security was lax the roads were nearly straight allowing him to just cruise away at high speeds.
A day had passed on the road. They were just a few more kilometers away, at this speed it wouldn't take them more than half a day to reach their manor, and the next day, Adam could go to the entrance exam after some much-needed rest.
Even In a fantasy world, driving for long periods without any sleep takes a toll on you.
Adam was sleep-deprived and incredibly irritable while Henrietta was sound asleep for a few hours now. Thankfully he had the headset with him to listen to songs so he didn't fall asleep.
Adam was listening to this song called 'Dancing in the Flames' which felt great driving at high speeds.
Suddenly a system window popped.
|| DUE TO THE HOST'S TERRIBLE LUCK A BEGINNER BATTLE SQUAD OF THE DARKUS MAXIMUS HAS MANAGED TO TRACK HIM DOWN.
THE MEMBERS OF THE DARKUS MAXIMUS HAVE BEEN SENT TO SEARCH FOR THE HERO OF BRAHKEN WHO RUINED THE PLANS THAT THEY HAD BEEN WORKING ON FOR THE PAST 40 YEARS.
THEIR TASK IS TO KILL THE HOST AND BRING HIS LIFELESS BODY BACK TO MAXIMUS INTACT TO BE TURNED INTO A HIGH-LEVEL UNDEAD.
GOOD LUCK HOST.
(SYSTEM TIP: THIS IS NOT A QUEST BECAUSE THE SYSTEM DOESN'T BELIEVE THAT THE HOST CAN FEND OFF THIS AMBUSH FROM A GROUP OF 5TH TIER DARK MAGES. IT WAS NICE KNOWING YOU HOST I ENJOYED THE ONE MONTH I GOT TO SPEND WITH YOU.) ||
As soon as Adam finished reading the system window, in an instant the back of the car exploded and the car flung into the air top side down.
In that small time window, Adam threw Henrietta out of the car onto the grassy plot besides the road, before he could jump out as well, the car slammed onto the ground and his leg got stuck between the crushed chassis.
His agility wasn't high enough.
Looks like his luck stat wasn't enough. His face and hands rubbed against the tarmac tearing off his skin.
It seemed as though this chill drive had turned into something much worse.
