The Veilwalker

Chapter 522: Boundless Nexis (1)

Drakmor turned around when his senses picked up multiple void creatures incoming. He expected this much with that level of radiance being emitted.

'You guys should get back here.' Drakmor said through his connection. 'We've got incoming void creatures…'

Looking at Alexander's companions, he realised they were also aware of the incoming threat. "Follow me."

The dragon took off after saying that bit. They were weak, yes, but so were the majority of the void creatures approaching.

He and his colleagues were more than enough to handle the void creatures. But seeing the readiness of Ross and the others, he decided not to take that away from them.

Ross, Julia and Cassandra exchanged nods and then chased after the dragon, their take-off speed dispelling the surrounding void energy with a magical boom.

Ross and Julia were behind the group, as they were the weakest in the group. However, they did not dwell on that little detail, as their attention was on assessing their top speed.

'Slightly faster than light speed.' Julia shared this with Ross, who hummed in agreement. 'Hah… I can't believe our universe is that weak.'

'It's not something we can control, Julia.' The redhead expressed calmly. 'We should focus on what we can control: our cultivation.'

'Yeah…' Julia heaved a silent sigh. 'We should be reaching the Demigod level soon. I don't want to feel any more helpless than I am now.'

After several seconds of high-speed flight, the group escaped the bounds of the white void, coming to face an army of void creatures.

Drakmor was the first to come to a stop. A split second later, his colleagues emerged from the void, appearing beside him like they had been awaiting his arrival.

Cassandra, Ross and Julia arrived a little later, stopping on the left side of the Chief Enforcers. They looked over to the Enforcers, their expressions unreadable.

Regardless, anyone could guess what they were thinking. After all, the mess they created was not a small one. The tigress, in particular, focused her attention on Julia.

There was this aura around the girl that gnawed at her instincts. While the others had something similar, the one around Julia was different - colder, even. Perhaps it was because she was guarded, worried Alex might snap.

She had no intention of harming them, nor did she intend to help them with what they were about to face. Similarly, most of her colleagues shared the same opinion.

Drakmor was the only one willing to look out for them. He had even instructed them to leave the weaklings for them to handle while they dealt with the true monsters. That meant they would have to hold back or risk harming them with the resulting energy shockwaves.

Focusing on the void creatures that were swarming around, numbering in the hundreds of millions, Julia and Ross could not help but gulp. The collective aura the creatures let off was tyrannically overbearing, even from the distance separating them.

The humanoid void creatures at the forefront were the true nightmares for them. They had no facial features, long appendages ending in claws, and let off predatory clicks that sent shivers down their spines.

Like army generals, the humanoid void creatures seemingly assessed the situation while the void creatures behind them waited, letting out threatening screeches and growls.

They came in all shapes and sizes, ranking from Demigod to the Venerable level. Some looked like monsters out of a horror story, while others appeared more bestial. The creatures were so numerous that they resembled stars in the night sky, as seen from a planet.

"Why are they just standing there?" Julia asked out loud, glancing at the catwoman.

"I'm not sure…" Cassandra shook her head, her gaze locked onto the creatures. "But they seem to be cautious."

Hearing the response, Ross looked over his shoulder, where the white radiance still went strong. "It's probably because of the radiance.

"Alex mentioned purifying the corrupted essence, and void creatures are no different to that corruption; just weaker."

The Enforcers exchanged looks, silently agreeing with the redhead. Although powerful void creatures were intelligent, they still did not hesitate to attack when they encountered a lifeform.

For them to stand by and watch could only mean they were wary of Alexander's radiance. 'It still isn't enough to halt them completely.'

The Enforcers shared amongst themselves. Almost as if the creatures wanted to prove them right, the void creatures at the forefront made a series of clicking sounds. A split second later, the army of creatures behind them let out loud screeches and growls that shook the void.

"They are moving…"

Ross muttered, distancing himself from his friends and conjuring his greatsword. The weapon appeared in a blaze of white flames, its edges gleaming white instead of the usual red.

Following the appearance of his blade that drew the attention of the Enforcers, mildly leaving them shocked, Ross's aura exploded outward, unleashing a torrent of tyrannical pressure that offset what the void creatures bore on him.

Cassandra and Julia soon followed, unleashing their Nexis Radiant tainted aura. The catwoman had chosen to be Alexander's vassal. While she had not given up her attempts to ascend herself, she needed the power boost.

The catwoman, by nature, was a close-quarter fighter. However, for the purpose of keeping an eye on Julia and Ross, she chose to play a supporting role in this fight. She assumed a position that would allow her to assist Ross and Julia if they got overwhelmed.

The Knight princess brandished her cold, white steel horizontally at the incoming army of void creatures, her stance wide and perfect. She momentarily glanced at the Enforcers and realised they made no attempt to do battle.

'They probably want to see what we're capable of.' She thought smugly, turning her gaze back to the incoming sea of void creatures. 'Hmph! Whatever…'

Although her thoughts were far off the mark, it wasn't entirely. The Chief Enforcers were keeping an eye on the God-tier void creatures. Since those monsters wanted to test the waters, they diverted a portion of their senses to Alexander's companions.

"I'm going in."

Ross took first point, fearlessly taking off with an explosive bang. The void creatures had covered more than half the distance separating them, the demigod tiers at the forefront.

'What a rash child.' Nyssa commented coldly, unimpressed at the redhead's macho display. 'Does he really believe he can fight those creatures alone?'

Drakmor silently watched, though he was ready to move at a moment's notice. He agreed with his colleague's assessment that Ross was being reckless. If anyone should charge in, it should be the catwoman.

But the cat stood back, watching as if everything was fine. It was why he hadn't acted. Fighting above one's level was something only Veilwalkers attempted, especially from the Venerable stage and above. Then again, nothing about Alexander and his people really made sense.

"Tsk. Would it hurt to wait for me?!"

Julia made things worse when she charged in after the redhead, seemingly as reckless as Ross was. Her actions rendered the Enforcers speechless, leaving them half expecting the cat to charge in after them.

But Cassandra remained in place, conjuring as many light-based spears as possible. The light spears hovered behind her, numbering in the thousands. That, in addition to the radiant aura around her, cut a formidable sight to behold.

'...'

'Let's see what they're capable of…'

The Enforcers were left with no choice but to watch Ross and Julia take action. But would it be that easy? The demigod void creatures at the forefront of the charge were not so simple. One, in particular, resembled a giant worm the size of a colossal class spaceship.

And that creature wasn't the only one, as many among the charging army of void creatures were larger than life. Dealing damage to creatures of their calibre required more energy and even greater speeds.

Unaware of the thoughts of the Chief Enforcers, Ross and Julia exchanged glances and nodded, seemingly deciding on something. With less than a few thousand kilometres until contact, Ross and Julia's eyes blazed with white essence, their tyrannical pressure increasing several times over.

From the back, Cassandra swung her right arm out as her eyes equally lit up with a radiant white. Following that gesture, the thousands of light spears floating around her shot out towards the void creatures at speeds that broke the limits of the demigod level.

In a flash, the light spears passed Ross and Julia, finding their targets with deadly precision. The attack came so fast that the void creatures barely had time to react to the assault. However, that was just the beginning of their troubles.

The moment the light spears almost instantly appeared before their targets, Julia and Ross made their move. With an even greater burst of speed far exceeding their levels, Ross and Julia abruptly closed the remaining distance, leaving only a white blur in their path.

"!!"

Ross went after the giant void creature worm, his greatsword held in a horizontal sword lunge. In one fluid motion, the redhead appeared above the creature, dug his blade into its neck, and swept the creature's body in a barrel-roll charge, only coming to a stop when he had travelled the length of the creature's body.

SCREECH…!!!

The demigod void creature, measuring hundreds of kilometres in length, was cleanly swept through. Across its massive body were the traces of the greatsword's mark. Compared to the entire creature, it was an almost negligible attack.

Julia, on the other hand, lunged forward with a white and exceedingly cold sword beam the moment she appeared before the bestial void creature.

Abrupt and unparalleled, the beam tore through the monstrous void creature with laser-like precision, emerging from its back and tearing into those behind it.

'I take it back…' Nyssa almost widened her eyes in disbelief. 'They're more than capable of handling themselves! But how the fuck are they able to move beyond their speed limits, more so when they're facing restrictions?!'
