The Veilwalker

Chapter 515: Necessity

Alexander was never one to shy away from a challenge, regardless of what it entailed. The danger that the corrupted Enforcer posed was real and would soon be at his doorstep if he chose to ignore it.

Perhaps, Drakmor and his companions knew Alexander would not refuse. But this was the situation at hand. All the other Veilwalkers, including themselves, were helpless without the Supreme One to clean up their mess.

This was not an issue of whether they were powerful enough to deal with their rogue colleague, but a matter of energy quality. The abhorrent power from that fusion was too aggressive for their void energy to do anything about.

"We understand." Drakmor quickly agreed, drawing the gazes of his companions. Ignoring the looks he was receiving, he continued. "As long as you're willing to deal with the mess we created, we can agree to anything."

"Excellent." Alexander revealed a slight smile, ignoring the dissatisfied looks he received from the other Enforcers. "I'll get the rest of the details later. For now…"

He swiftly stood up, followed by Cassandra and then the Enforcers. "There are a few things I'd like to deal with before we leave. In the meantime, you can stay here."

Alexander gestured behind the Enforcers, where a portal opened up to a massive lounge. Drakmor and his companions turned around to look, and without hesitation, expanded their senses to take a look.

Similar to the experience they had earlier, the lounge only allowed their senses to see what was in there and nothing else. For beings of their calibre, the space Alexander allotted to them was impressive, sizable enough to hold thousands of people and still have room for more.

It had six separate doors leading to private spaces the Enforcers could use as resting areas, while the main lounge served as a meeting space for them to discuss whatever they wanted. With minimalistic designs and furniture capable of supporting their chosen weight, the Enforcers had nothing to complain about.

Even if they had complaints, they were guests and could not demand anything from Alexander, especially when they were the ones seeking his help. Of course, it still did nothing to ease the displeased look on the faces of some of the Enforcers.

"Thank you, Lord Alexander." Drakmor turned to Alexander and gave a curt nod. "We'll be in your care."

Alexander replied with a nod and watched as the Enforcers walked into the portal. However, before they could all disappear from view, the tigress looked over her shoulder, her slitted eyes staring at the catwoman standing beside Alexander.

This time, however, Cassandra did not flinch from her gaze. She even went as far as standing proudly, crossing her arms over her chest to mimic Alexander's earlier carefree attitude. The final addition was the slight smirk that tugged at the corner of her lips.

Cassandra let out a heavy sigh when the portal closed completely, her shoulders sagging just for a moment. "What's with that woman?"

"Yeah, I don't think she liked the look you gave them when they admitted to creating such a mess." Alexander chuckled softly, glancing at the catwoman. "Apparently, it's alright when I say it to their face."

"Mhm. Weaklings have no place judging their vile actions." The catwoman's expression twisted with a cold sneer. "Hmph! Such hubris."

Alexander shook his head with a smile, finding her actions quite entertaining. But she was right. He was not sure about Drakmor, but from what he had seen of the others, they showed no remorse whatsoever.

'Condemning an entire universe for such a vile power… Maybe the multiverse made a mistake giving us this kind of power.' Alexander's expression slowly lost its smile, replaced with a contemplative one.

'But the worst part of this is that they are not the only ones seeking such power.' He recalled the conversation he had with that Hulmite. 'There should be more of them out there. And with how things are going, will things be okay with the Supreme One?'

Alexander was not sure. After all, once a universe's core was fused with a black core from a void creature, the universe's core becomes something else entirely. That meant the Supreme One would be losing his various selves with every core lost.

"What's got you thinking so hard?" Cassandra's voice pulled Alexander out of his thoughts.

"Hm? Oh, it's nothing serious." Alexander replied, looking ahead at the spot where the portal had disappeared. "Just thinking about what to do once I encounter that rogue Enforcer."

"You don't say…" The catwoman lowered her head a bit, feeling anxious about what she was about to ask. "Hey, Alex. Would it be okay to follow you on this operation?"

"You don't have to be anxious, Cassandra." Alexander turned to face the catwoman, smiling gently. "When I said on my own terms, I meant taking a few of my people along."

"Really?!" Cassandra abruptly raised her head to meet Alexander's eyes, the sparkle in her eyes nearly taking Alex aback. "Ah, sorry about that."

Realising her actions, Cassandra took a few steps back, feeling embarrassed about showing such a desperate side of herself. Well, she was desperate to do something depicting her status as a Veilwalker. Babysitting pompous humans who believed everything revolved around them was not her definition of purpose.

"It's fine."

Alexander found nothing wrong with her enthusiasm. Although a certain someone would have had to disagree, and it was a good thing she was not around, or the catwoman would have been in cold waters.

"You should get things in order while I handle things on my end." Alexander instructed calmly. "You're still the leader of the Sentinel Division, so you can't leave things without leaving a few instructions behind."

"Right."

Cassandra nodded after taking a moment to regain her composure. With a determined look in her eyes, she looked right at Alexander and then disappeared, off to carry out the instructions.

Meanwhile, once the Chief Enforcers arrived in the lounge, they wasted no time gathering around Drakmor. Knowing where they were, they opted to communicate through their shared connection instead of speaking outwardly since Alexander could be listening in.

'What do you mean we agree with his terms, Drakmor?' Vornarax was the first to express his displeasure. 'We came here to ask for his help, not put ourselves beneath him.'

'Exactly.' Velmyra, the phoenix who sat to Drakmor's far left, expressed next. 'It's shameful enough as it is. We can't afford to make the kid think he can get away with disrespecting us any further. Besides, we're only here because of your suggestion.'

'Well, we wouldn't be here if we hadn't touched on something we didn't understand.' Drakmor shot back, staring at his companions with a deep frown on his face. 'So pardon me if I have to show our sincerity to the boy.'

The dragon was angrier at himself than he was at his companions. This entire thing began with him, as it was his subordinate enforcers who brought the discovery to him. Had he shared it with only the Supreme One, perhaps, none of this would be happening.

'That Alexander kid has no reason to help us.' Ignarok, the third dragon who had remained mostly silent throughout their conversation with Alexander, stepped in as the voice of reason. 'He has no obligations to us except with the Supreme One.'

The others turned to him, unable to refute the argument. With their focus on him, he continued, 'The boy can simply send Zauren back to us if he appears.'

There was no need for Alexander to go out of his way to chase after the corrupted Chief Enforcer. Simply beating that Enforcer back would have been enough to leave his universe alone. After all, despite the corruption plaguing their companion, that companion of theirs was not dumb.

'Alright, we get that.' Nyssa expressed her thoughts next. She then turned to Drakmor and asked, 'The boy might have dealt with corruption like this before, but that Hulmite was weak. What we're dealing with is on an entirely different level. Do you really believe he can deal with Zauren and his minions?'

Drakmor could only stare back neutrally, as this was not the first time they had expressed doubt about Alexander's ability to help them with their dilemma. But the truth of the matter was that even he was not entirely sure.

However, from the confidence Alexander projected, there was a decent chance that his energy could be the solution. 'What choice do we have?'

'...'

It was an answer they could derive for themselves. Had they been capable of stopping their corrupted colleague, their troubles wouldn't have persisted for thousands of years. This was a necessity if they were to keep what was entrusted to them.

'It shouldn't take Alexander too long to put his affairs in order.' Drakmor added after his colleagues had nothing else to say. 'We should get some rest; we might need it.'

The dragon dismissed himself after that, turning around and selecting one of the many doors. Soon, he disappeared from the lounge, leaving his colleagues behind.

'We don't have to agree with the boy's terms if we don't like them.' Ignarok argued. 'But Drakmor is right… What choice do we have? Let's see what the boy can do, and if he fails to meet expectations…' The dragon did not complete his words, but the meaning behind them was clear.
