The Veil of Forgotten Gods

Chapter 53: Chapter 68: A Twist of Humor

The Labyrinth of Deception turned out to be more than just a maze of lies and illusions—it was also a labyrinth of oddities, where the line between the serious and the absurd blurred like a bad sketch.

Harshit, Leo, Misty, and Eira, though focused on their mission, couldn't help but notice the strange occurrences around them. The walls of the labyrinth seemed to shift and reshape with every step they took, sometimes revealing rooms filled with nothing but oversized furniture, other times leading them into corridors where gravity itself decided to play tricks.

At one point, Leo found himself walking on the ceiling, while Harshit and Misty were stuck on the walls like they were characters in a cartoon. Eira, ever the serious one, tried to maintain her composure, but the sight of her companions hanging off the walls like spiders finally made her crack a smile.

"Is this some kind of joke?" Leo grumbled, trying to shake off the effects of the labyrinth's strange magic. His hammer, normally a symbol of power, looked comically oversized in his hands as he swung it in frustration. "I feel like I'm in some twisted funhouse."

Misty giggled, barely holding herself up as the room's gravity returned to normal. "Well, if it is, someone has a weird sense of humor."

Harshit, always quick to adapt, took the opportunity to make light of the situation. "At least we're getting a break from the usual doom and gloom," he said, his voice laced with sarcasm. "Maybe we should just laugh our way through this labyrinth. It might be the secret to getting out."

Eira, who had been leading the way, paused as they reached yet another dead-end. The walls were covered in mirrors, each reflecting a distorted version of themselves. Some of the reflections were short and stubby, while others were tall and lanky, their expressions exaggerated to the point of absurdity.

Misty couldn't contain her laughter as she pointed to a reflection of Leo that made him look like a muscle-bound behemoth with a tiny head. "Leo, you might want to lay off the magic protein shakes," she teased.

Leo rolled his eyes but couldn't help but chuckle. "If only my muscles were really that big. I'd crush this labyrinth in no time."

Harshit, who had been examining his own reflection, noticed something peculiar. One of the mirrors didn't show a distorted image—instead, it displayed an almost perfect reflection of himself. Almost. There was something off about the reflection's smirk, something that hinted at a hidden agenda.

Suddenly, Harshit remembered something Eira had said earlier about their mission, but with a twist. He glanced around, making sure Eira was out of earshot, and then grinned mischievously.

"She doesn't know that I know that she knows," Harshit whispered to himself, trying to keep a straight face but failing miserably as he burst out laughing.

"What was that, Harshit?" Misty asked, raising an eyebrow as she caught the tail end of his sentence.

Harshit shrugged nonchalantly, still grinning. "Oh, nothing. Just a little mental note to myself."

Before they could press him further, Eira returned from scouting ahead, her expression serious once more. "We need to keep moving. I think I found a way out of this mess, but we have to stay focused."

The group nodded, trying to stifle their giggles as they followed her. But the labyrinth wasn't done playing tricks on them yet.

As they turned a corner, they were greeted by an unexpected sight—a parade of tiny, cartoonish creatures, each dressed in ridiculous costumes, marching in single file. They were singing a nonsensical tune that seemed to echo throughout the labyrinth.

Misty covered her mouth, trying not to laugh too loudly. "Are those…miniature gods?"

Harshit shook his head in disbelief. "This place just gets weirder by the minute."

Leo couldn't help but join in the laughter. "I don't know whether to fight them or join the parade."

Eira, trying to maintain her composure, sighed in exasperation. "Let's just find the exit before we lose our minds completely."

But even as they pushed forward, the humor of the situation lingered. The labyrinth may have been designed to deceive, but it had also given them a much-needed break from the weight of their mission. For a moment, they were just a group of friends caught in a ridiculous adventure, laughing in the face of danger.

And in that laughter, they found the strength to keep going, knowing that no matter how twisted the labyrinth became, they could face it together—with a smile.
