The Unruly Immortals

Chapter 418: Meeting

"Back when my Immortal Artifact was still with me, money flowed into my purse as if it had legs! I would never have bothered to look at these copper coins!" Scholar Lv said disdainfully, eyeing the waiter who had just kicked him out.

"Esteemed guest, I'm truly sorry, but no matter what you say, our establishment absolutely does not extend credit~" The waiter said with a drooping face. After slinging a white towel over his shoulder, he turned and walked back into the lobby.

"Hey!" Scholar Lv was about to say something else when the woman beside him stopped him. She was the wife he had bought with silver, Tao'er.

She took down the bundle she was carrying on her back and took out two vegetable cakes to pass to him.

"I don't want them! If I tell you to eat, you eat! I, Scholar Lv, am a man of dignity, do I need to eat a woman's leftovers?" Scholar Lv pushed the cakes back at her with a shove.

He thought about going back to Niuxin Mountain to find Li Huowang, but he had no travel funds. Although the journey wasn't far, he lived hand to mouth every day, without a penny saved.

He had thought about seeking some relief from the brothers with whom he used to drink and eat meat, but to his surprise, these bastards turned their backs on him without recognition.

"You've got some nerve, haven't you? With all that pride, how come you, Scholar Lv, can't even afford a meal now?"

Hearing the mocking voice from behind, Scholar Lv's face instantly flushed with anger. He rolled up his sleeves and turned around, only to see Chun Xiaoman and Bai Lingmiao sitting in a carriage.

"Ah, what a coincidence! It's you guys! Are you heading back to Niuxin Village? I'll drive the carriage!" Scholar Lv prepared to climb into the carriage, only to be kicked squarely in the forehead.

"Did I say you could get on the carriage?" Bai Lingmiao looked down at Scholar Lv from the carriage window with disdain.

Scholar Lv stood up with the help of Tao'er, looking puzzled at the white-haired woman before him.

This woman gave a very different impression than before; if the previous Bai Lingmiao was gentle and quiet, now she seemed much more aggressive.

"What's with Miss Bai?" Scholar Lv asked Chun Xiaoman, who was holding the reins.

Chun Xiaoman sighed lightly, "What else, the same as you."

"Oh? She also held Master's sword?!" Scholar Lv exclaimed, his eyes widening in surprise.

"Xiaoman, enough chitchat, let's go." Bai Lingmiao no longer paid any attention to Scholar Lv and pulled down the carriage curtain.

"Hey! Why are you leaving already? Take us with you! Are you returning to Niuxin Mountain? We're on the same route! Hey! Has Master returned to Niuxin Mountain yet?" Scholar Lv hurriedly chased after the carriage, banging on the wood, but there was no response.

Scholar Lv followed them all the way, and eventually, the carriage stopped in front of an inn.

They had the waiter lead the carriage to the back courtyard; Bai Lingmiao, ignoring Scholar Lv beside her, walked towards the lobby with Chun Xiaoman in tow.

Just as Scholar Lv sat down at the Eight Immortals table with Tao'er, following the two women, Bai Lingmiao swept a cold glance at him, "Did I say you could sit?"

"Hey! Miss Bai, don't be so unfriendly, we've always had such a --" Scholar Lv tried to ingratiate himself.

"What relationship do I have with you? Are you a sworn brother who escaped with me, or are you one of my Bai Family Members?"

Scholar Lv's heart flared with anger at that moment. She used to be so nice, but now? Her personality had become so irritating. "Fine! Is it just a meal? If I skip a meal, will it kill me?"

He immediately took Tao'er to an empty table nearby.

Sensing the tension, Chun Xiaoman opened his mouth to say something but then felt a kick on his shoe from Bai Lingmiao, and he fell silent as well.

Four dishes and a soup were quickly served, and as the sound of chewing and slurping soup echoed beside him, Lv Xiuqing couldn't help but swallow a mouthful of saliva.

"Right."

Upon hearing Bai Lingmiao speaking to him, Scholar Lv immediately pretended to look away nonchalantly.

"You don't need to follow us anymore. Go find something to eat somewhere else. Niuxin Village belongs to my Bai Family. I decide who gets to live there, and you, boy, make me sick just looking at you."

"What!?" Scholar Lv suddenly leapt up, almost three feet off the ground. "You can't do this! But our Lv's Troupe lives there too!"

"Just because they live there, does it mean it's their property? If you dare to follow, I'll kick out the entire Lv's Troupe."

Scholar Lv wanted to say something, but faced with the ominous appearance of the Second God suddenly looming behind Bai Lingmiao, he ultimately couldn't utter a single word.

He slammed the table fiercely, his eyes red with anger, as he dragged the quiet Tao'er beside him and stormed toward the door.

Watching the other's retreating back, Chun Xiaoman spoke up, "Miaomiao, wasn't that a bit too much? After all, he is the son of Band Leader Lv."

"I didn't hit him nor curse at him, how was that too much? Have you seen how this kid treats his own father? Why should I help such an ungrateful wretch? Besides, was his attitude even remotely like someone asking for help just now?" Bai Lingmiao finished speaking and picked up the fourth bowl of rice to continue eating.

Having finally found a town, Bai Lingmiao was in no rush to leave, planning to get a good night's sleep at the inn before hitting the road again.

On the bustling market street, Scholar Lv muttered resentfully, occasionally grinding his teeth and cursing under his breath.

But no matter how fiercely he cursed, it couldn't quell the grumbling of his stomach. Glancing at the woman silently following behind him, he pulled her along as they continued searching for food in the town.

But without money, there was no food to be found. When the sun set, they had only managed to fill their stomachs with water.

"Hey, sir! Come over here! Are you short on cash?" a man called from the dim alley, beckoning Scholar Lv.

Surprised, Scholar Lv walked over and asked, "What's up?"

The man opened his hand, revealing a few silver fragments before Scholar Lv's eyes, which promptly vanished as the man with the two tufts of beard swiftly retracted his hand.

When Scholar Lv eagerly inquired further, the man pointed at Tao'er behind him. "Three taels of silver, what do you think about letting your wife serve as a concubine for a year?"

"Concubine?"

"What? Don't understand? It means I'm borrowing your wife's womb to have a son, and after that, she'll be returned to you, safe and sound."

"You son of a bitch!" With a loud bang, Scholar Lv threw a punch directly at the man's face. Naturally, the man struck back, and the two immediately started brawling.

Scholar Lv wasn't as tall or as bulky as his opponent, so he was beaten quite badly.

Just as Tao'er rushed over to break it up, she was slapped away by the man. When Scholar Lv saw this, his eyes turned red with fury.

"You son of a bitch! I'll fight you to the death!" Scholar Lv pulled out a small dagger from his bosom, which finally stopped the other man's fists.

Seeing Scholar Lv's eyes filled with malice, the other man chuckled nervously and left.

Once he had calmed down, Scholar Lv then felt pain all over his body. Rolling his tongue in his mouth, he spat out two of his back teeth along with some blood onto the ground. "Damn it, why am I so unlucky!"
