The Unruly Immortals

Chapter 414 Retreat

"Hahaha, you all want this Six Ecliptic Manual too? Ha, dream on! Something as good as this is naturally ours from the Oblivion Path!" Li Huowang taunted the other members of the Astrological Bureau with a sneer.

And as Li Huowang spoke, the illusion of Hong Zhong beside him laughed crazily as if overjoyed, clapping around Li Huowang whether alive or dead, never having been so delighted before.

Seeing the prominent Hong Zhong marking on Li Huowang's face, all those fighting on site stopped in their tracks, simultaneously looking at him and the monitor at his hand.

Those from the Astrological Bureau who were besieging Zhuge Yuan were the most shocked. They never imagined their so-called comrade was an imposter from the Oblivion Path, who had even killed the direct supervisor.

The next moment, nearly all the members of the Astrological Bureau on site instantly abandoned the interception of Zhuge Yuan and charged towards him. The supervisor was already dead, and if they didn't want to be punished and imprisoned by the Bureau, they had to detain this man to make amends for their failure!

"Dad... they are coming, they're charging at you..."

In the pitch darkness, Li Huowang heard the voice of Li Sui in his mind. "Don't panic, pop out your eyeballs to guide me!"

Holding the blood-stained old almanac high, Li Huowang followed Li Sui's guidance, hopping towards the distant city wall.

In this bizarre and mad world, anything could happen. As one of the authorities of the Astrological Bureau, the supervisor might not be so easy to kill, but Li Huowang didn't care about success or failure; he did all this just as a gesture of attitude on behalf of the Oblivion Path.

He had never been in league with the Astrological Bureau from the beginning, his own goal always being that Xinsu, Bei Feng!

Now that he knew Bei Feng had not left the Capital City, for his own purposes, the Astrological Bureau and the Oblivion Path must fight. Even if they wouldn't, he himself would forcibly fan the flames!

After being deceived by the Oblivion Path so much, why couldn't he use them in return?

And Li Huowang wasn't worried at all that the Astrological Bureau would check with the Oblivion Path for an extra Hong Zhong, as the Oblivion Path now was like the boy who cried wolf, after calling out a few times, even if they were telling the truth, no one would believe them anymore.

Now that the supervisor had been killed as "Hong Zhong," the Oblivion Path would find themselves in a situation akin to having splashed mud in their pants, guilty even if not guilty. This move was also something Li Huowang had learned from the Oblivion Path.

Between the tiles of the buildings, with his knees pressed against the talisman, Li Huowang's upper body leaned forward, enduring the intense pain on his face, laughing wildly as he ran. He mocked the followers behind him from time to time.

The fire had been successfully fanned, and now he just needed to break away from the Astrological Bureau's encirclement and switch back to his true identity as Er Jiu.

Just as he was crossing over a rooftop, a killing intent coming from nowhere made Li Huowang's hair stand on end.

Suddenly, Li Huowang felt his body move on its own, forcefully twisting in mid-air, blind Li Huowang could only perceive a gust of wind carrying something that grazed his body.

"Dad, there's someone on the wall with a big stick trying to hit us." It was Li Sui helping Li Huowang avoid the attack.

"Don't panic, we're not far from the city wall, we'll be out soon!" Just as Li Huowang was about to say this, he suddenly felt a very strange aura coming from behind, tightly locking onto him.

This weird change made Li Huowang's heart tighten, "Li Sui, what's happening? What's going on behind us?"

"Dad, the person you just killed stood up again! He's staring right at your head now."

"What?! The supervisor isn't dead?! No! He must be thoroughly dead, what's in his body now isn't the original him!!"

Even on a common person, there were more different techniques than Li Huowang could imagine.

Now Li Huowang couldn't figure out what exactly it was through Li Sui's description, the only certainty was that this matter wasn't over!

"Go!" Li Huowang maneuvered his body to displace himself, entering stealth, and rushed with all his might towards the gate of the Capital City.

As he was charging, Li Huowang suddenly felt a chill on his head, followed by the sound of something falling to the ground, and then the aura on his body disappeared.

In a critical moment, Li Huowang didn't have the luxury to think too much. Seeing that his body could still move, he continued his frenzied retreat.

"Come on, boys! Let's go help boss Hong Zhong!"

"Boss Hong Zhong, go ahead without worries! We'll avenge you!"

"Boss Hong Zhong, make sure you deliver that Almanac!"

Hearing the indignant shouts of the Oblivion Path disciples from behind, a cold smirk formed in Li Huowang's heart, "You deceivers, didn't expect to be deceived yourselves one day, did you?"

Whether it was the effect of the Oblivion Path disciples holding off the pursuit, the pressure around Li Huowang dropped suddenly, and he quickly reached the city gates.

The heavy city gates were already closed, but that was no trouble for Li Huowang. He swung the Copper Coin Sword, cutting through the gates as easily as cutting through paper.

After some effort, when his hands brushed past those dense leaves, joy surged in Li Huowang's heart, for he had finally made it out of the city.

"Li Sui! Keep a close watch! Do we have any pursuers behind us?" Li Huowang silently communicated with Li Sui in his mind.

"No, it looks like they were all held back by those people in iron clothes."

Despite receiving the best possible news, Li Huowang kept his guard up. He continued flipping and twisting through the forest, sometimes cloaking himself, sometimes entering water.

Several hours later, only when his body was utterly exhausted, lacking even a shred of strength, did Li Huowang slowly stop, sweating profusely as he sat on a rock to recover his energy.

"Given the current chaos, the Capital City will definitely be in a mess and will heighten security. It seems I need to wait outside for a while before going back."

"But I can't wait too long; otherwise, I might miss my chance if the Astrological Bureau and the Oblivion Path start fighting."

Just as Li Huowang was thinking this, he suddenly heard the sound of footsteps crunching dried leaves to his left.

Li Huowang was about to listen more intently when, in the next moment, he heard a terrified scream, "A ghost!!"

But after one scream, other than stirring the birds into flying, there was no more movement. This left Li Huowang, who was ready to fight for his life, somewhat bewildered.

"Li Sui, who made that sound?" Li Huowang asked Li Sui again in his mind.

"An old man, he was carrying a lot of wood, and now he's lying on the ground not moving."

Confused, Li Huowang made his way over there, and soon he touched an old man in hemp clothing, his deep wrinkles an indication of his advanced age.

The wood on his back and the woodcutting ax missing a corner in his hand suggested that the old man was just an ordinary woodcutter.

There was still a pulse in his neck; he must have only been frightened into unconsciousness, not to death.

It dawned on Li Huowang that the man must have been scared by his current guise as Hong Zhong. Indeed, common folk aren't accustomed to such a ghastly face.

Realizing this, Li Huowang took a dagger out of the Torture Tool Bag, preparing to return his features to their places.

But as he reached his hands towards his head, he found the spot where he'd put his head was empty; only a few of Li Sui's tentacles were wriggling there, one of which, wrapped around two eyeballs, was swaying high and low.

"Where's my head?" This question suddenly sprang from Li Huowang's mind.
