Chapter 293 Think of a way
Several days later, no matter what astonishing and unconventional events he had gone through, Li Huowang had already calmed down again.
He stood by the window, with a sullen face, silently watching the floating Oblivion Path in the distance.
Opposite him, the faceless and eyeless Oblivion Path, perched on Peng Longteng's shoulder, wore a smirk that was not quite a smile, staring back at Li Huowang.
"I don't need to get worked up, it's just an illusion, nothing more. It's not the first time, after all – the more debts, the less worry; the more lice, the less itch," Li Huowang comforted himself in his heart.
"Given his nature, he will definitely interfere with me in the future, but since I know this kid is a fraud, as long as I treat everything he says as hot air, he won't be able to affect me."
"Is that really so? Maybe not?" the Oblivion Path lifted its hand, examining its palm, "You have us several entities within your Divine Sense, I'm afraid that's going to be big trouble –"
"And now there are four of us, in the future there will be more than forty –"
Li Huowang pretended to be completely blind to it and slowly walked towards the table, leaning on the wall.
"Let's talk, why aren't you talking anymore?"
Just as the Oblivion Path was still pestering Li Huowang, the Monk blocked him, "Hey, don't bother the Taoist anymore, can't you see he's not feeling well in his heart?"
"Oh? Who are you, grand master?"
"I am not any grand master, I am a Monk. What's your name?"
"What's my name?" the Oblivion Path looked towards Li Huowang's back, with a hint of mockery again appearing on its face, "I am called Hong Zhong."
Li Huowang turned back coldly and glanced at him, "You're called Hong Zhong? I think you're so eager to be Hong Zhong you've gone mad."
Just then, with a creak, the door suddenly opened, and Bai Lingmiao walked in carrying a meal.
Seeing Li Huowang who was moving along the wall, she was shocked and darted over to support him. "Brother Li, your injuries aren't fully healed yet, don't wander around carelessly!"
After a good amount of consoling at the table, Bai Lingmiao picked up a bowl of greasy chicken soup, scooped up a spoonful with a ceramic spoon, gently blew on it, and brought it to Li Huowang's lips.
"I'm just injured, not crippled."
Li Huowang took the spoon and bowl of chicken soup from her hands and drank it heartily.
One drank, and the other watched, and a rare moment of quiet descended on the room.
"Miaomiao, this time, the Immortal Sects actually proved useful, managing to pull me out of Ghost Gate Pass. It seems that bringing you with me was the right choice. How many Yangshou Pills did they take from the gourd?"
Hearing this, Bai Lingmiao began to speak with a hint of hesitation, "Brother Li, actually, the Immortal Sects..."
Just as she finished speaking, a woman's hand with long black nails suddenly landed on Bai Lingmiao's shoulder.
Li Huowang's hand paused with the spoon, and when he saw that the hand belonged to Bai Lingmiao's deity, he continued to drink. "What is it?"
As far as Li Huowang knew, the daytime appearance of a deity in this way was extremely rare. If he remembered correctly, this should be the first time in history.
Under his gaze, the deity's head, covered by a red veil, slowly bent down, enveloping the astonished Bai Lingmiao.
Looking at the red veil covering the two heads in front of him, Li Huowang showed a hint of curiosity. He tried to use his keen hearing to listen to what the two women were scheming inside.
However, apart from some subtle rustling sounds, he discovered nothing else.
"What are they up to? They must be so close they're touching, right? Could it be that they have something they need to hide from me?"
While Li Huowang thought this, Bai Lingmiao's hand reached out and gently pulled at a corner of the red veil. But underneath the red veil, there was only her head.
"Heh, tell the deity that his tricks are quite impressive," Li Huowang said as he picked up his chopsticks and began eating the remaining dishes.
Bai Lingmiao looked somewhat unnatural, her smile clearly forced.
"Are you all right? What did she say to you just now?" asked Li Huowang as he chewed the food in his mouth.
"It's nothing, nothing."
"If it's nothing, then eat. Don't just stand there watching."
Asking her directly would surely yield no answers, so he would have to find time to ask Bai Lingmiao's best friend, Chun Xiaoman.
As Li Huowang said this, Bai Lingmiao suddenly widened her eyes and pointed at Li Huowang's nose. "Brother Li! Inside your nose... "
Li Huowang touched his nose with a puzzled expression and immediately felt a small, writhing tentacle wet with mucus.
However, he wasn't the least bit panicked. As Li Huowang gently pinched it with his fingernail, the tentacle retracted instantly.
"Brother Li, I've wanted to say this before, but the things you've been eating are really not right! We should let it go," she urged.
Any normal person would realize there was a big problem with Li Huowang's body after seeing that scene.
Without hesitation, Li Huowang answered decisively, "No."
Seeing the disappointment on Bai Lingmiao's face, Li Huowang took a deep breath and said more gently, "I can handle it. These are small issues."
Li Huowang surely knew that the Black Taisui within his body was undergoing new changes, and they were most likely for the worse.
But even so, Black Taisui couldn't be stopped. To block out the hallucinations, no matter how severe the side effects were, he had to endure them.
Compared to other matters, the Black Taisui inside his belly was, of course, a minor issue.
Li Huowang patted Bai Lingmiao's soft hand with the one without nails. "Be good, eat up, it's okay."
Bai Lingmiao wanted to say something but couldn't. With a troubled face, she picked up her chopsticks again and started eating without any taste.
After the meal, Li Huowang lay down on the bed again. According to Bai Lingmiao, he now needed to rest and recuperate.
The room was very quiet, so quiet that one could hear a pin drop, but Li Huowang was restless with an unresolved issue on his mind.
"Let's talk," Li Huowang suddenly blurted out to the roof beam above his head.
"Hong Zhong, is he talking to you?" the monk, half-stuck in the wall, asked in surprise.
Hong Zhong shook his indistinct head. "No, he's talking to the Black Taisui in his belly. Heh, this is really fucking interesting," he commented.
Li Huowang completely ignored the conversation of the two hallucinations and quietly awaited a response.
Whilst he couldn't stop consuming Black Taisui, there had to be a way to resolve the situation, or at least to slow down the occurrence of side effects.
Considering that it had once saved his life, maybe communication could be effective.
However, when he didn't want it to appear, it often did, and now when Li Huowang was seeking it out, there was no response whatsoever.
Suddenly, Li Huowang thought of something. He reached into his ear, gave a slight scoop and pull, and the cotton wadding packed inside was torn out.
In an instant, Li Huowang's ears were almost deafened by an onslaught of noises.
