The Unruly Immortals

Chapter 137: The Five Realms of Buddhism

"God of Happiness?" This was the first time Li Huowang had heard this term.

"Is there a relationship between the single joy and the double happiness?"

"Well, if you really want to compare them, the God of Happiness is just the fingernail to the God of Double Happiness."

"Hiss–" The terrifying image of the God of Happiness that Li Huowang had encountered before emerged in his mind, and he could hardly imagine that such a being could only serve as a fingernail to another existence.

"Wait, wait a moment, Master, my mind is a bit chaotic right now."

He was somewhat caught off guard by the sudden news. "So the God of Happiness isn't just a bigger Evil Spirit?"

"How could that be possible, how could the God of Happiness be an Evil Spirit? They're not the same thing at all."

Li Huowang took a deep breath and then asked, "Then, Master, whether it's the God of Happiness or the God of Double Happiness, what exactly are they?"

"What else could they be, they're gods."

"Uh... Which gods?"

Master Jingxin's plump face was filled with surprise. "You don't even know this? How have you survived until now? I thought you knew."

Li Huowang continued to explain helplessly: "As I have already told you, I'm not from this world; I really crossed over, although I don't remember how I did it."

"Ah... Here we go again." Master Jingxin looked at Li Huowang with a face full of pity.

"Master, I really did cross over!" Seeing that she didn't believe him, Li Huowang raised his voice involuntarily, his heart also becoming somewhat agitated.

"Alright, alright, I believe you. Let's continue our discussion. The Five Realms of Buddhism, have you heard of them?"

"The Five Realms of Buddhism?" Li Huowang recalled the temple within the Zhengde Temple, which housed five great Buddhas.

"I have heard a little. The abbot of the Zhengde Temple once mentioned that in five different worlds, there are five different Buddhas."

"In the center is the Vajra World, in the east the Scent Accumulation World, in the south the Joyful World, in the west the Western Paradise World, and in the north the Lotus Flower World." Master Jingxin repeated what the old monk had said.

"The God of Happiness and the God of Double Happiness are wandering gods from the Southern Joyful World. Of course, there are not just these there; there are more Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Arhats."

Li Huowang was a bit confused, hearing these concepts for the first time.

He knew that there were some weird things in this world but had never imagined that

above this world, there were five different worlds.

And in these five different worlds, there were even more terrifying things.

"So, the Immortal Realm you mentioned before, is that these five worlds?" he asked Master Danyang on the wall without really thinking.

"Hmph!! What nonsense, the Five Realms of Buddhism, a bunch of foolish bald monks who know nothing!"

All six of Master Danyang's eyes were filled with disdain; this was the first time Master Danyang's illusion had reacted.

"These people understand nothing at all, they believe whatever is written in books! They haven't even seen Heaven's Gate, what do they know about anything!!"

Li Huowang ignored Master Danyang's curses and continued to inquire of the Master, "Could you tell me where these so-called Five Realms of Buddhism are?"

"If I knew that, I would have become a Buddha by now. Would I still be staying here?"

The Master picked her nose with some boredom, pulled out a long one, and wiped it on her own plump flesh.

"Become a Buddha? Is that what the Master wishes, to become such a Buddha?"

"I can't be bothered to become one. Although my son has gone mad, he is still alive. What would happen to him if I truly became a Buddha?"

Having learned this information, Li Huowang seemed to connect all his past experiences, and he felt as if he grasped something in the depths of the mystery.

"Which world does Bahu reside in?"

He recalled the sinister place that had served as the backdrop when Bahu had previously manifested in the world.

"I don't know. I'm not from the Ao Jing Sect."

"Whoosh~!" The three terrifying heads of Master Danyang burst forth from Master Jingxin's belly.

"She's lying to you! She doesn't understand anything! Only when you truly see the Immortal Realm will you understand how marvelous it is!"

"Just one glance at the Immortal Realm, and you'll think the Mortal World is nothing!!"

Li Huowang looked at him, his mouth twitching, and continued to ask Master Jingxin, "Master, regarding this so-called 'Five Realms of Buddhism,' are there different interpretations in other sects?"

"Of course. Some practitioners of Immortal Cultivation say there aren't Five Realms at all. It's just one place, called Penglai. Others claim that place doesn't exist at all and is completely made up."

"Anyway, no one can convince anyone else, and I'm too lazy to argue with them."

As Master Jingxin spoke, she couldn't resist pulling out a mung bean cake from her rolls of fat. She was about to pop it into her mouth but then, with great self-restraint, stopped and put it back.

"That's enough, that's enough. These things don't belong to the Mortal Realm. I'm just saying, and you're just listening. Whether it's true or not, it doesn't relate to you now."

"If there's nothing else, hurry up and go. It's almost midnight; because of you, I've lost sleep."

"Remember, stay away from the Oblivion Path. If you really encounter them and want to break their effect, you need to thoroughly understand their thinking and then do the exact opposite."

After giving this final piece of advice, Master Jingxin threw back her head and started snoring thunderously.

Li Huowang's expression was complex as he again performed the Qingfeng Taoist Temple's greeting toward the master, picked up the sword in his hand, and turned to leave.

This trip had yielded too much information, and now Li Huowang needed to take some time to sort it all out.

Yang Xiaohai crouched on a stone, envying Chun Xiaoman, who was practicing her swordplay in the courtyard.

With a ringing clang accompanied by a whispering sound, Chun Xiaoman's green sword was partially unsheathed.

The sword's edge reflected a cold glint, and an almost mist-like ethereal pressure instantly made him sit back a bit more.

The sword danced like a dragon, with continuous flashes of silver light and fluttering sleeves in the wind.

Yang Xiaohai didn't understand the intricacies of the swordplay, but he felt that sister Xiaoman before him was very formidable.

It was only natural; for so many days, whenever she had free time, she practiced with the sword - in the morning, in the evening, even when eating, she held that Sword Manual.

"If I were that powerful, maybe then no one would dare to bully me," said Yang Xiaohai with longing in his eyes.

"Hmph, that's nothing. Practicing these things is useless. If you really want to become strong, you have to learn from elder brother Li."

Yang Xiaohai turned his head and saw Gouwa leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest.

Thinking about elder brother Li's terrifying appearance, he immediately felt a chill at the back of his neck and shook his head like a rattle-drum.

"No, I don't want to learn those divine skills; they're too painful."

It was then that Yang Xiaohai saw Chun Xiaoman stop her sword dance and walk outside.

"Sister Xiaoman, where are you going?" he hurriedly followed.

"I'm going to the Escort Agency in town to have a look. I've been practicing for so long; it's all been static training. I want to find someone to test my skills with."

"Xiaoman, to test your skills, you don't need to find outsiders. You can find me. Why go through all that trouble? I've practiced too," Gouwa said, patting the Suspended Sword at his waist so that it rang out.

"You call that practice? Just swinging and chopping is considered practice?"
