The Undying Emperor [Grand Conquest Fantasy]

Act 6 - Discussion

Last week was the end of the revolution, but peace and stability are not achieved by proclamations and victims alone. Next week will begin the side story that I know I've been looking forward to, and I hope you all are as well.

Beyond that, I think Act 7 is going to be the largest of the acts thus far. There's a lot of elements I want to introduce to expand the world. I'm undecided how much attention I'll give to Vassermark during the campaign. To be honest, there's something to be said for letting time pass and cleaning up the slate of characters that are relevant by the time Lucius returns. Not to mention, I think I've focused on politics enough for a while, and proper war is back on the menu, even if the whole affair will be driven by the dynamic between Lucius and the Cyclops of Aillesterra.

Something I'm considering might typically be considered a mistake, so I'm open to changing my mind on it, and that is telling the story primarily through the events concerning the women around Lucius, rather than following him strictly. This would let me pull away from the tactics of mundane engagements, raids, subterfuge, and so on, while still highlighting the critical events and set pieces. Let me know what you think of that proposal in the comments below.

As for Act 6 specifically, I'm rather happy with how it turned out, though it left a similar frustration with me as Act 3 did. Given all the pieces I had to work with, I don't think the dynamic between Lucius and Theo was as dramatic as it could have theoretically been in a vacuum. Part of me says that had I focused more on that particular antagonism, it would have been to the detriment of the other elements. I did not want the revolution to spring out of nowhere, I already used that trick with the coup and that would be poor craftsmanship to just repeat myself, not to mention the events forced Lucius' identity into the public and most importantly into the awareness of the women around him. Hopefully, I did a sufficient job nonetheless.

Regardless, thank you for reading this far. I hope I have been able to entertain you with this tale.
