Chapter 11: Vermillion Poem



"Your head suddenly jerked upward, as if you were ensnared by the past, your eyes vacant and clouded like milky glass. Whatever turmoil brewed within you, only you could fathom. Yet you spoke to me, saying, 'Are they back?' No.

They were not. But who were they?

If I am to be truthful, I doubt even you are certain of who they are.

Yet, mere moments after you asked, I felt as though you saw them once more. You became lost within your own gaze, unresponsive, as though you had slipped beyond reach. And when I followed your eyes, I saw nothing. But when I listened, I heard them."
