Chapter 106: 105.
In another Villa district.
Chen Boyang woke up from another drunken night, expecting the gentle call of his assigned maid.
He opened his eyes, blinking heavily to reduce the bleariness, while confused as to why no one was waiting for him by his bedside.
Since he was a child, a maid was assigned to him. That person tended to all his needs.
There was a time when his father removed them when he was younger, but his mother and grandfather dismissed that order.
"Maybe that's it."
Chen Boyang left his bed, thinking it was another tiff between his parents.
Checking the time on his bedside clock, it was nearing noon. Once again, he frowned. Why hasn't anyone informed him of lunch?
Is it an off day?
He really couldn't care less about their off days, they were meant to serve him. he was having a bad enough time on the outside, he didn't want to deal with the same nonsense in his own home.
When he was about to go out to order some maids, his phone rang.
It was one of his closest buddies, Ding Shen.
He answered the call, "What's up. It's early."
"Early?!! It's fucking late. Where are you now?"
Chen Boyang wasn't pleased with his outburst and cursed back fiercely.
Ding Shen ignores the tantrum of this young master. He had important news to relay.
"He's here. That illegitimate bastard. He's having lunch with your father RIGHT NOW!"
"...... WHAT!" It took Chen Boyang a moment to process the information after being annoyed previously.
Thinking of Chen Kai, he had mixed feelings about that prick.
The feelings of inferiority and superiority were mixed when it came to him. Should he accept it all or fight for his rightful position? Since he appeared, the family has been in unrest, yet the grandfather has retreated to the background for some reason.
Chen Boyang was clueless about what was happening around him; he was too immersed in his feelings to care.
".... and what is with this big pomp. Didn't your father reduce your entourage? Why does he have an assistant and a twelve-man bodyguard team with him? What is he doing here? Hello? Hey! Young Master Chen! ....."
Chen Boyang made up a random excuse, "Maybe it's all a show. The Chen family can't lose face, after all, he supposedly has the blood of our family in his veins."
"Well, it looks too real to be fake. Hang up. I'll send you the video I shot."
Ding Shen didn't wait for a response and quickly ended the call.
Chen Boyang didn't care about the video; he wanted to know what was going on. Why was that bastard in Shanghai? Isn't he in Nanjing looking over some broken company?
"MOTHER!"
The second young master's shout startled the maids in the halls. They turned to see the disheveled master rushing out of his room angrily.
Fierce eyes pinned them on the spot, "Why weren't you tending to me when I woke up? Are you disobeying authority? Go clean my room now. Dirty tramps only know how to take my family's money and not work." He pushed the closest worker towards his room.
He didn't care for the looks he got from the others and went directly to his mother's side of the house.
"Mother."
The door slammed against the wall when he burst in; Sun Yilan, who was in the middle of a call, screamed at the sudden intrusion.
"Who -- Oh, dear. Our Yangyang woke up." The face change of Sun Yilan was impeccable.
Chen Boyang, on the other hand, had no time to admire it.
"Mom. Why is he here? I just got a call from my friends saying Dad is with him. What is he doing?"
Facing the angry shouts of her son, she knew the momentary coaxing wouldn't help the situation. She tried her best to keep that motherly expression on her face, but her inner turmoil was too much.
She ended the call with her best friend and tried to coax her son to sit down.
Chen Boyang wasn't having it.
Used to always having his way, he demanded she call his father to stop this nonsense.
What happened in Hangzhou with the yacht was passable, but openly communicating with his bastard was ruining his reputation.
"... Yangyang, don't worry about that. He's... " Sun Yilan was trying to find an excuse, but couldn't.
Her nervous and anxious chatter added to Chen Boyang's anger.
He was being humiliated, and his mother was making excuses.
"Mom. Why aren't you calling?!" he yelled, stopping her incessant chatter.
At the same time, a message came in. He ignored it.
He glared at his mother and began to berate her for not helping in keeping up their image.
"Call grandpa."
"HE CAN'T HELP!"
Chen Boyang was dumbfounded by his mother's shrew-like shout.
Looking at her distressed look and red, teary eyes, he was shocked by this. He never saw his mother like this.
His temper cooled a bit, but his thoughts all led to his father and Chen Kai; they caused his mother to look like this. His mother looked so sad and world-weary at these developments.
How can they treat his mother, Madam Chen of Shanghai, like this?
"Mom, why can't grandpa help?" Chen Boyang knew he had to calm down to ease his mother's nerves. He approached her
at a steady pace before sitting beside her.
Sun Yilan didn't answer. Reaching out, she fixed her little son's messy hair and inwardly admired her dear, handsome child. In her eyes, her Yangyang was the best, the son of heaven who should have the world in his hands.
Why should that bitch's son have a share of what is her son's?
She knew the reason why that child was in Shanghai. She has to find a way to let him stay outside of the Chen family genealogy. Without his existence, he won't get a share of the inheritance. Her son is to be the next patriarch.
He may lose out on the company, but the real power is the family.
A calculating gleam flashed across her eyes. She held her son's hand, thinking of whom to bring in. To get close to that whore's son will be hard with Chen Huai's hovering.
Plus, she doesn't know what he looks like. Since hearing about this son from nowhere, she hasn't seen a photo of him nor had the thought of searching for his background. All her information about him came from her Yangyang and the old man's curses.
"We have to do something. Do you have a photo of him? Maybe I can get a little help from your grandfather, as all the power hasn't transferred yet to your father." Sun Yilan was eager to keep that brat away from the ancestral manor, and she had less than a day to do so.
"Uh. Oh. Yeah." Chen Boyang was confused by the sudden change but still moved his hands.
He showed her the video Ding Shen sent.
Both mother's and son's faces changed from nonchalant to disbelief.
Ding Shen captured Chen Huai having lunch with his bastard in the same frame before focusing on the young man.
They can hear the starstruck praises they had for Chen Kai, so many adjectives were used to describe his handsomeness. It was clear to those who knew the Chen family that this child inherited Chen Huai's features.
The old man was handsome in his own right, but Chen Kai dominated the Appearance Association.
Amidst the unabashed praises, the young man paused his conversation with his father and turned his head slightly towards Ding Shen and his friends.
Under those sharp swordlike brows were eyes that could hold a sea of stars. His fair skin represents cool jade, smooth without flaws, and milky white. His lips were arched in a smile, but the humor of that smile never reached his eyes.
Chen Kai was oblivious to the effect he had on the people filming and now watching. Raising his hand in a natural yet elegant move, he gave a gentle wave before turning back to his father.
The camera began to shake, followed by a sharp curse.
The video ended.
Mother and son didn't know what to say. Both were trying to get back their composure. Who would expect that they would feel fear at one look at someone through a phone screen?
Those eyes felt like they were peering into their soul. That smile. That smile was full of evil.
Did he know?
Did he know Ding Shen and know that they were filming?
Why did he wave at the camera?
It could be seen that the phone camera was hidden. How can he know?
The more Sun Yilan thought of it, the more she brushed it off as 'impossible'.
Chasing away her doubts, she took the phone from her son's hand and took a few screenshots of that bastard. She had to get the old man to help.
Chen Boyang wasn't good at regaining his composure like his mother. He was going through something that he didn't expect. The only thought that was in his head was, 'Dangerous. Be cautious.'
One look at that brother of his, and he was doused in a vat of inferiority. Those eyes weren't as calm as they should.
Something is off about that guy.
Chen Boyang found himself not only struck by Chen Kai's near immaculate appearance but by the domineering aura the guy naturally exudes even through the screen. He glanced at his mother, who was in the midst of another scheme.
That feeling from day one when he met Chen Kai returned; he was not as good as the first child.
Anyone can see his excellence while everyone looks at him with the eyes of watching a clown.
He wasn't dumb enough to believe his mother's brainwashing remarks. He knew his worth; that's why he kept taking advantage of his position as the Chen family's young master. The circle knew him as the firstborn of the first son.....
Chen Boyang's thoughts stagnated.
He's no longer the firstborn, is he?
He began to use his brain after a long time; taking out the little clues from the moment he woke up, the previous months, and along with the last lecture he received from his father, he finally concluded.
Chen Boyang turned his head sharply towards his mother, his face contorted in an ugly expression. He doesn't know if it's his moment of clarity or his mood, but his mother's actions seem ridiculous now.
Can she even execute her plans? Does she know the power his father holds even without the old man's backing?
The old man has been put up to peacefully retire by her husband; does she not understand?
This woman!
Really!
"Mother!"
"Huh? What? Are you hungry, dear? Let me get them to bring something for you. Seriously, how can they let you..."
"Mother!!" Chen Boyang called sharply once more, interrupting her yapping. It's only now that he has realized how much she overpampers him. Isn't this turning him into a waste?
Sun Yilan was startled by the fierce cadence of his voice. "Son, what's wrong? Your grandfather says he will think about it...."
"Mother, did Dad say something last night or this morning?"
Sun Yilan's eyes began to dodge his gaze. Her hands seemed to be restless as she adjusted her posture; her once poised expression was contorting hideously. Chen Boyang was now sure that his father wasted some of his energy admonishing his mother, and his words were far from pleasing and piercing.
"What. What did he say?" Chen Boyang asked through gritted teeth. He was uneasy. Words said by his father had full authority, no matter the subject.
A bad premonition rose.
"What can he say? It's nothing of importance. My Yangyang shouldn't bother with the world of adults. You are free to do what you like; mother will have your back." Sun Yilan was trying her best to keep her image.
Chen Boyang inwardly sneered, Isn't she saying nothing out of something? Dad broke her.
He picked at her last words - 'Mother will have your back.'
No!
He shot up from his seat and created distance from his mother. She did something. No. Said something. Yes, she said something to piss Dad off. But, what?
Chen Boyang realized he had been using his brain a lot in the past half an hour. It was tiring.
"Mother, what did Dad do?" he asked once more.
"Yangyang, your father was only angry that you didn't return home for dinner last night. You know how strict he is, don't worry, he will cool down in a few days," she coaxed.
He narrowed his eyes at her. The answer was there, but he couldn't grasp it. What is it? Something was gnawing at his head; that something was wrong, something had changed, but he didn't know.
knock,knock.
"Madam, I have word from the Master." The voice of the head butler shattered the thought process.
"Come in."
Sun Yilan invited the butler into her sitting room and gestured for him to speak.
The old man greeted her and turned to greet Chen Boyang, "Sec..."
"Butler Chen, please say what you have to say," Sun Yilan interrupted his greeting without giving the chance for her son to think too far ahead.
The butler, having years of experience in this circle, understood the silent order from the madam. Unfortunately, her actions were useless.
"The Master has sent word that the Eldest young master will be dining with us tonight. Both Madam and the second young master must be present."
Chen Boyang was dunbstruck, " Who's the second Young Master?"
