The Tower of Infintium

Chapter 7: Chapter 7

Miguel trudged back toward Greystone Village, his spear slung over his shoulder, and the spoils of his latest gathering quest stashed safely in his item box. The sun dipped low on the horizon, casting long shadows over the dirt road.

As he neared the village gates, two of the village guards stepped into his path. Their armor glinted in the dying light, and their expressions were unreadable but respectful.

"Miguel," one of them, Sergeant Roran, began, his voice steady. "We've been watching your progress. You've shown remarkable strength, potential—and more importantly—values that align with the heart of this village."

The second guard, Lieutenant Bran, nodded in agreement. "We believe it's time you took the next step. Would you consider training with us in qi manipulation?"

Miguel paused, taken aback by the offer. "Train with the guards? I thought that kind of training was only for those officially enlisted."

Roran shook his head. "Your contributions and dedication have earned you this opportunity. You're not bound by titles, Miguel. Strength and determination speak louder than ranks."

Without hesitation, Miguel nodded. "I'll do it. If it means becoming stronger and protecting what matters, I'm in."

Bran smiled faintly. "Good. Meet us at the training grounds tomorrow. Be ready to push yourself beyond your limits."

The next day, Miguel arrived at the village training grounds at dawn, the air crisp with the promise of a challenging day ahead. Roran and Bran were already waiting, both wearing their standard training gear.

"Before we begin," Roran said, gesturing for Miguel to sit on a nearby bench, "you need to understand what qi manipulation truly is."

Miguel sat attentively, leaning forward. "I'm listening."

"Qi," Bran explained, "is the life force that flows through all living beings and the world itself. It's energy, but more than that—it's the foundation of all strength, focus, and elemental control. By manipulating qi, you can enhance your body's natural abilities or channel it to manifest elemental powers."

"Each person has a natural affinity," Roran continued. "Some discover it early, others never do. Fire, water, earth, wind, lightning—each element brings unique strengths and challenges. Today, you'll choose which path you want to pursue first."

Miguel absorbed their words, reflecting on his experience with fire. "I want to try lightning," he said finally. "I've felt… a pull toward it."

Bran exchanged a glance with Roran. "A rare choice—and a dangerous one. Lightning is volatile and difficult to control, but if you're determined, we'll guide you."

Miguel nodded without hesitation. "I'm ready."

The crackle of energy hummed in the air as Miguel stood at the village training grounds..., his fists clenched tightly at his sides. The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows over the dirt-packed arena. Across from him stood Sergeant Draven, a veteran guard known for his mastery of lightning qi.

"Focus, Miguel," Draven instructed, his voice calm but firm. "Qi manipulation requires precision, especially with lightning. It's volatile and dangerous."

Miguel nodded, beads of sweat trickling down his temple. He concentrated on the core of his being, drawing on the lessons learned from channeling fire. But lightning was different. Where fire was steady and warm, lightning was raw, sharp, and wild.

"Now, try to feel the essence shards," Draven continued, holding out a small, shimmering fragment. "These contain traces of elemental energy. Use it to guide the flow."

Miguel reached out, fingers brushing against the shard's surface. A sudden jolt surged through him—a flash of brilliant white energy shot across his arm, crackling violently before dissipating into the air.

[Elemental Affinity Detected: Lightning]

[New Affinity Unlocked: Lightning - Level 1]

Draven's eyes narrowed with interest. "Impressive. Few unlock lightning so early. But controlling it? That's another challenge."

The training was brutal. Each attempt at channeling the lightning left Miguel's muscles trembling from the strain. Sparks danced along his fingertips, arcing unpredictably, leaving scorch marks on the ground. Draven demonstrated movements—quick jabs, rapid footwork, and strikes designed to harness the natural speed of lightning.

"Your fire helps you with power," Draven explained during a short break. "But lightning is about speed and precision. Overwhelming force will only cause it to lash out uncontrollably."

Miguel practiced until exhaustion dragged at his limbs, every successful attempt tempered by failures. The energy crackled across his spear during drills, enhancing his strikes but leaving burn marks on the weapon's shaft.

[New Skill Unlocked: Lightning Jab]

Beyond the training grounds, the younger testers in other regions of the tower began receiving system notifications:

[System Announcement: Player Miguel Tañon has unlocked Lightning Affinity]

[System Announcement: Hidden Quest Progress Completed - Greystone Village Favorability Bonus Achieved]

In the bustling market square of the second-floor city, several testers exchanged glances as the notifications appeared.

"Who's this Miguel guy?" one muttered, irritation clear in his tone.

"Some old guy who stayed back in the beginner village," another scoffed. "Probably wasting time crafting instead of grinding levels."

But whispers from NPC merchants and observers painted a different story.

"They say he's unlocked two elemental affinities already. Fire and lightning."

"He's got connections with the village guards too. Maybe we rushed through too quickly."

Frustration brewed among them as realization dawned—they had missed opportunities by rushing ahead.

Back in Greystone Village, Miguel sat by the forge with Garrick after training, nursing a cup of herbal tea to calm the tremors in his hands.

"You're pushing too hard," Garrick warned, his brow furrowed with concern. "Lightning isn't something you rush."

Miguel let out a tired chuckle. "I don't have time to take it slow. There's too much at stake."

Their conversation was interrupted by Lio, who approached quietly, clutching his carved wooden wolf. "Are you okay? You look tired."

Miguel offered a weak smile. "I'm fine, kid. Just… learning something new."

Lio's gaze lingered on Miguel's shaking hands but said nothing more, sitting silently beside him.

Later that night, as Miguel's consciousness returned to the real world, he sat on the edge of his bed in the facility's quarters. His body felt different—more alive, sharper. He caught his reflection in the mirror and noticed faint traces of static energy crackling along his arms. The dark circles under his eyes had faded even further.

He clenched his fists, watching as a thin arc of electricity danced across his knuckles.

"It's bleeding through," he muttered under his breath. "Even here."

The following day, during another training session, Draven watched Miguel carefully.

"You've unlocked something rare," the sergeant said. "Lightning is not just powerful—it's dangerous. You need to master it before it consumes you."

Miguel nodded grimly. "Then let's keep going. I'm not stopping now."

From the shadows, the village guards observed quietly, exchanging subtle glances. One murmured, "If he survives this, he'll be stronger than any of us expected."

As the energy crackled and the storm within Miguel grew stronger, so too did the whispers of his rising potential.

I've added the conversation where the guards explain qi manipulation to Miguel, offer him a choice of elemental training, and guide him toward his decision to pursue lightning affinity. Let me know if this addition captures the tone and depth you envisioned or if further adjustments are needed.
