The Tower of Infintium

Chapter 11: Chapter 11

Miguel stepped through the threshold of the Sealed Chamber of the Ancients, his grip tightening on his spear as the stone doors rumbled shut behind him. A deep silence swallowed the space, broken only by the faint hum of latent energy pulsing through the ancient walls. The air was thick with dust, the scent of age and forgotten battles lingering like a ghostly reminder of what lay ahead.

As he took his first cautious steps forward, a system notification materialized before his eyes:

[First Trial Activated: Guardian of the Abyss]

[Objective: Defeat the Guardian and claim the first piece of the Legacy Set.]

Miguel exhaled slowly. "Of course, it starts with a fight."

A deep tremor rumbled beneath his feet. The cavernous chamber ahead pulsed with an eerie blue glow as a figure began to form in the center. The energy coalesced into a towering, armored warrior—easily twice Miguel's height. Its obsidian-like plating gleamed in the dim light, and a jagged greatsword crackled with raw energy in its grasp. Wisps of dark mist seeped from its joints, giving it an almost spectral presence.

[Boss Encounter: Abyssal Guardian]

A monstrous entity stood before Miguel, towering nearly fifteen feet tall. Its obsidian-like armor was etched with glowing crimson runes, pulsing with a slow, ominous rhythm. Broad shoulders and a horned helm gave it the appearance of a warlord from another era, but its eyes—cold and empty—held no trace of humanity. Instead of a mouth, the Guardian had a jagged, gaping void from which mist-like tendrils writhed and twisted. Its jagged greatsword, nearly as long as Miguel was tall, crackled with an eerie energy, radiating a pressure that made the air around it feel thick and oppressive.

The Guardian's glowing eyes locked onto Miguel, its grip tightening on its weapon as a system prompt flashed before him:

[Warning: The Abyssal Guardian absorbs direct magical attacks. Find another way to defeat it.]

Miguel cursed under his breath. That meant his fire and lightning-infused spear strikes would be useless if he relied too much on raw elemental force. He needed a plan.

The Guardian wasted no time. It surged forward with terrifying speed, its greatsword crashing down toward Miguel. He barely rolled aside as the impact shattered the stone floor, sending jagged debris flying in all directions. The sheer force of the strike sent shockwaves through the chamber.

[Skill Activated: Flash Step]

Miguel vanished from his spot just as the Guardian's blade slashed through the air where he had been standing. He reappeared a few feet away, spear poised, but the Guardian was already moving again. Its speed was unnatural for something so massive.

[Environmental Hazard Detected: Shifting Terrain]

Miguel felt the ground tremble beneath him. He jumped back just as a section of the chamber floor caved in, revealing a pit of swirling darkness below. The battlefield wasn't just a hazard—it was a death trap.

"Great," he muttered. "So it's not just the Guardian I have to worry about."

The Guardian lunged again, swinging its blade in a wide arc, sending a slicing wind pressure outward. Miguel barely ducked in time, feeling the displaced air carve a shallow gash into the stone behind him. Rolling forward, he twisted his body and stabbed upward toward the Guardian's exposed back. The spear's tip met resistance but failed to pierce through. In response, the Guardian let out a low, guttural growl, its crimson runes flaring brightly before a sudden burst of force sent Miguel flying backward, slamming into a crumbling pillar.

Gritting his teeth, Miguel pushed himself up, his arms throbbing from the impact. The Guardian wasn't just an armored brute—it had some level of intelligence, enough to react and counterattack. He would need to rethink his approach.

[Warning: The Abyssal Guardian's armor nullifies direct piercing attacks.]

Miguel gritted his teeth. He needed a different approach.

As the Guardian turned, Miguel's gaze flickered to the shifting ground. The unstable terrain might be the key.

Ducking under another brutal strike, he sprinted toward one of the weakened floor sections. If he couldn't break through the Guardian's armor, maybe he could make the battlefield work for him.

[Skill Activated: Thunderflame Spear]

Lightning crackled along his weapon as flames danced along the shaft. He pivoted and drove the spear downward, striking the fractured stone with all his might. The weakened section gave way, creating a deep fissure beneath the Guardian's feet.

The massive warrior staggered, its balance momentarily thrown off. Seizing the opportunity, Miguel dashed forward, leaping onto the Guardian's back. He jammed his spear between its armored plates, not aiming to pierce—but to pry apart the armor itself.

[Skill Activated: Arc Chain]

A surge of electricity coursed through the gap, bypassing the armor's resistance and shocking the exposed flesh beneath. The Guardian let out a guttural roar, its form flickering as if struggling to maintain cohesion.

Miguel didn't hesitate. Using all his strength, he wrenched the spear free and thrust it into the exposed weak point, but the Guardian fought back, its massive hand clamping onto his spear's shaft. Sparks flew as the two struggled for dominance, the sheer power radiating from the Guardian threatening to overwhelm him. Summoning every ounce of his willpower, Miguel twisted his grip and channeled every drop of his fire and lightning energy into the weapon.

With a final, explosive thrust, he drove the spear in deeper, the combined elemental forces erupting from within the Guardian's core. The colossus let out a bone-rattling roar, its form convulsing violently before an enormous shockwave burst forth, shaking the chamber walls as the Guardian crumbled into ash.

The Guardian convulsed violently before collapsing to one knee. The dark mist that had surrounded its body dissipated, leaving only the towering shell of what was once an unbeatable foe.

[Boss Defeated: Abyssal Guardian]

[Reward Unlocked: Abyssal Gauntlets – First Piece of the Legacy Set]

Miguel let out a slow breath, his muscles aching from the sheer exertion. As the Guardian's body disintegrated into shimmering particles, a stone pedestal rose from the ground, an ornate pair of dark gauntlets resting atop it.

He reached out, lifting the heavy gauntlets. As he slid them on, a new notification appeared:

[Equipment Effect: Abyssal Gauntlets – Increases Strength by 10 and unlocks Passive Skill: Crushing Force.]

Miguel flexed his fingers, feeling the enhanced power coursing through him. A slow grin spread across his face. This was only the beginning.

As the stone doors on the far end of the chamber creaked open, revealing the path deeper into the underground labyrinth, Miguel tightened his grip on his spear and stepped forward.

One floor down. Many more to go.
