Chapter 621: Differential Treatment
"Brother Chuan, the police are catching up," Zhou Kai looked back and saw several police officers quickly closing in, and there was a dog chasing in front of them. That police dog was running very fast. It would probably catch up in just a few minutes.
"You guys go ahead." The woman, panting heavily, stopped and said, "I can't run anymore, I don't want to drag you down with me. You are good people."
"You take her and go first," Lin Chuan stopped as well and said, "I'll cover the rear."
"Okay!" Zhou Kai nodded and said, "We'll wait for you at this address later."
"Alright," Lin Chuan nodded and replied: "We'll contact by phone!"
Then Lin Chuan immediately paused in place. Zhou Kai and the others quickly disappeared into the darkness.
The first to rush up was a police dog, barking madly at Lin Chuan. A sinister smile crept across Lin Chuan's face as a chilling dagger slid out from his sleeve. Just as the police dog lunged at him, Lin Chuan's hand with the dagger seized the moment and stabbed straight for the dog's throat.
Thud...
Blood spurted out instantly, and that police dog collapsed onto the ground, struggling violently for a short time before reduced to only whimpering.
"You!" The maritime police officer who had caught up was furious upon seeing Lin Chuan kill his police dog, shouting angrily: "Dammit, you actually killed Ah Huang!"
After speaking, two maritime police officers immediately charged forward.
These two were no match for Lin Chuan. Lin Chuan's figure shifted, and he struck out with his hand.
Bang...
One officer was hit in the back of the neck and collapsed instantly, falling unconscious on the spot. Seeing this, the other officer hurriedly drew his gun to shoot.
Unfortunately, Lin Chuan wasn't going to give him any chance to shoot. Instead, he launched a rapid assault, rushing forward. Lin Chuan gripped the officer's arm with one hand, then with a flick, the officer was forced down, his arm nearly twisted to the limit. The man screamed in agony.
"Ah..." The police officer screamed out loud.
Bang...
Lin Chuan turned his fist into a palm and slapped it against the officer's neck, knocking him out cold.
Having dealt with two maritime police officers and a police dog, Lin Chuan dusted off his clothes and quickly vanished into the darkness. Soon after, a large group of maritime police arrived in that direction. Seeing their comrade knocked unconscious, they immediately started contacting local police to investigate.
Unfortunately, by now, Zhou Kai and his group had already entered the bustling Hong Kong, crossing the crowded container terminal, and Lin Chuan had swiftly passed the maritime police blockade, entering the bustling city of Hong Kong.
In fact, it had only been a few days since Lin Chuan last left Hong Kong.
On a street in Tongluo Bay, Zhou Kai and Lu Dapao were wandering on the street corner.
"Why hasn't Brother Chuan arrived yet?" Zhou Kai frowned.
"It hasn't been that long!" Lu Dapao replied irritably, "Brother Chuan will definitely be here soon."
"Why did we bother saving a woman who has nothing to do with us?" Zhou Kai, hiding in a corner with a cigarette in his mouth, replied gruffly, "Damn it, because of her, we've wasted so much time. If something happens, won't we be at a huge loss?"
"Oh come on, you know Brother Chuan," Lu Dapao retorted irritably, "He's just a kind-hearted person, a good man. He definitely wouldn't stand by and do nothing in this kind of situation. Of course, if he did stand by, then he definitely wouldn't be Brother Chuan."
As they were talking, the figure of Lin Chuan emerged from an alley not far away.
"Brother Chuan!" The two shouted in unison.
"Hmm." Lin Chuan lit a cigarette and asked, "Is this the place?"
"Yes," Zhou Kai nodded.
At that moment, Lin Chuan smiled, then walked over at a leisurely pace and said, "Has she left?"
"Indeed," Zhou Kai nodded, "She took a separate path right after we broke through the blockade line."
"That's for the best," Lin Chuan nodded, "Now we can focus on our own business."
Subsequently, the group followed the directions provided by the smuggler to an address in a shantytown area of Tongluo Bay, which is also considered one of Hong Kong's slums. Such places are always chaotic, with a mix of various forces. Upon arriving at that region of slums, Zhou Kai and his companions were taken aback by the sight in front of them. They had not expected such poverty and destitution to exist within the glamorous Hong Kong.
This time, the impoverished area was located halfway up a hill, filled with haphazard constructions. As there were no urban management officers in Hong Kong, no one dealt with these issues.
It was the early hours of the morning, but this district was still bustling with activity, with many people moving about outside. Faced with this dense patchwork of shanties, Lin Chuan and his group were clueless on how to start their search. Although they held a piece of paper with an address written on it, the houses inside the slum were a mess, making it hard to proceed.
"Let's ask someone," Zhou Kai suggested.
"Sure," Lin Chuan nodded.
Zhou Kai then approached a middle-aged woman selling vegetables, smiling and asked, "Auntie, do you know how to get to this address?"
The middle-aged woman was taken aback, rolled her eyes at Zhou Kai, and grumpily said, "Mainlander, do I look that old to you? You even call me auntie, why don't you just drop dead? Scram, get off our Hong Kong land."
Zhou Kai was scared silly by the middle-aged woman's hysterical yelling. In the end, Zhou Kai could only come back with a sheepish expression.
"Haha..." Lu Dapao chuckled: "Zhou Kai, kid, your charm isn't enough."
"I'll give it a try." Lin Chuan grinned.
"Brother Chuan, I think we should save ourselves the embarrassment." Lu Dapao replied, then added: "I've heard before that people in Hong Kong look down on mainlanders; now it seems to be true. These Hong Kongers are too full of themselves. Damn it, the mainland should just cut off their water and electricity and let them fend for themselves."
Lin Chuan ignored him and went over to speak in fluent English, "Miss, hello, I come from Japan, could you please tell me how to get to this address?"
The same woman selling vegetables, upon hearing what Lin Chuan said, immediately grinned and said, "Sir, please walk one hundred meters straight ahead, then turn left into the alley, turn right after you come out, and it's the third house number you'll see!"
"Thank you!" Lin Chuan smiled politely.
"Not at all, is there anything else I can assist you with?" the vegetable seller asked.
Lin Chuan shook his head.
Zhou Kai and Lu Dapao watched from not far away, stunned.
"Fuck, aren't these Hong Kong people too opportunistic?" Zhou Kai couldn't help but curse: "The same face, why am I treated differently from Brother Chuan?"
"That's because Hong Kongers look down on mainlanders but favor the Japanese," Lu Dapao said with a laugh.
"Fuck!" Zhou Kai cursed again.
"Let's go," Lin Chuan said.
Soon after, the three of them headed towards the poor area.
Before they knew it, it was already six o'clock in the morning. Although they got directions from the vegetable-selling lady, they still circled around a few times before finding the house with the number 56. A dilapidated three-story building, which in the midst of a slum, was actually not a bad place. At least it was on high ground, standing on the balcony and looking down, you could see the brightly lit city of Hong Kong at a glance.
"This is it!" Zhou Kai declared.
"Hmm!" Lu Dapao nodded.
"I'll go knock on the door!" Zhou Kai was about to step forward but was pulled back by Lin Chuan.
"Wait!" Lin Chuan immediately stopped the two.
"What's the matter?" Zhou Kai looked puzzled.
"At this hour, they should be sleeping," Lin Chuan said: "Knocking on the door early in the morning, aren't you just telling them someone's come knocking? Any slightly vigilant person would evacuate promptly. You're basically alerting them with your knock."
"So what do we do?" Zhou Kai asked anxiously.
"Climb in." Lin Chuan said.
Zhou Kai was taken aback for a moment; the three-story building wasn't very high, and it looked possible to climb up with bare hands, but the windows above were fitted with anti-theft bars, so it seemed not that easy to get in. While Zhou Kai hesitated, Lin Chuan dashed up in three steps, grabbed the balcony rail of the second floor, flipped over, and leaped up in an instant.
"Awesome!" Seeing this, Zhou Kai was instantly excited: "I'll give it a try too!"
After saying that, Zhou Kai mimicked Lin Chuan's movements and sprinted towards the wall. He stepped on the wall, pedaling up. Then, grabbing the railing of the second floor with both hands, he flipped over.
Thump...
He fell heavily to the ground, face down, flopping like a fish out of water.
"Ouch!" Zhou Kai cried out in pain.
"Hahaha…" Lu Dapao burst into roaring laughter on the side.
"Hurry up!" Lin Chuan urged.
Zhou Kai could only stand up from the ground, gritting his teeth in pain, while Lu Dapao scurried up quickly. Although it looked clumsy, he managed to get up there safely. Zhou Kai didn't dare to try again, considering he was lucky not to have knocked out his teeth from the fall.
The three of them reached the second floor; the windows were secured with anti-theft bars, but fortunately, the door on the second floor was left ajar.
"Haha, when God closes a window, he's got to open a door," Zhou Kai exclaimed excitedly.
Entering the second floor, there was a hallway, with a statue of Guan Gong enshrined in the center and four doors on either side, each leading to a bedroom. They looked at the four bedroom doors and momentarily didn't know how to proceed with the search.
"One by one," Lin Chuan said: "You two take these two on the left, I'll check the other two on the right."
"Okay!" Zhou Kai nodded.
Then, they immediately started their mission. Lin Chuan gently pushed open one of the doors. A scent wafted out from inside, causing him to frown. This likely wasn't the room of the two people they were looking for; it must be a woman's room.
