Chapter 818 - 812: Timeling Joins
Chapter 818: Chapter 812: Timeling Joins
“Gurgle!”
Another round of rumbling hunger pangs resounded, but this time David Jones didn’t need to look back to know it was the Gluttonous Beast deliberately creating the sound effect with a mechanical imitation.
He laughed wryly to himself and, with a bit of annoyance, glanced at the Gluttonous Beast. His Star Ring twinkled, summoning a whole table full of delicious food.
“Let’s eat first!”
Recently, in their effort to collect Broken Law Crystals, Jeannie and the others had worn themselves out. Taking a break before entering the Candle Dragon Palace seemed like a good idea.
“Rainbooow!”
After finishing the meal David had prepared, the Time Elf couldn’t help patting its bulging little stomach, its eyes smiling like crescent moons.
Was this the taste of happiness? It had been so long since it had felt this full!
Wait, how long was ‘so long’?
Seeing the Time Elf lost in thought, David tentatively reached out to gently touch its cheek, asking with concern,
“Where are your kindred?”
“Rainbooow.” (I have no kin.)
The Time Elf said, feeling dejected.
Hearing this, David was somewhat surprised.
Time Elves were usually social creatures, naturally simple-hearted and rarely alone. He didn’t expect to encounter one in the Candle Dragon Palace.
Suddenly, a ripple of excitement surged through David’s heart.
The one before him was an unprecedented Time-type pet, both in beauty and in strength.
If he could foster a good relationship and become friends, wouldn’t he be able to dress up the Time Elf in various cosplay outfits every day? It would be a treat for the eyes while also providing healing for his teammates.
“Rainbooow?” (What’s a cosplay outfit?)
The Time Elf blinked.
“You can hear my thoughts?” David exclaimed in surprise.
Indeed, the naturally simple-hearted Emperor Beasts often possessed intuition beyond imagination, capable of sensing the good and evil within the hearts of nearby beings. Fortunately, he harbored no malice towards the Time Elf.
The Time Elf nodded slightly, its eyes filled with a smile.
“Rainbooow, rainbooow, rainbooow!” (Sure, we don’t need a good relationship to be friends, we are friends already!)
The pets: “???”
Jeannie scrutinized the Time Elf with a detailed gaze that made it somewhat uncomfortable.
What’s going on here!
Was the meal the Trainer prepared just food, or was it some enchanting drug?
The Time Elf was a Time-type pet, not a Dragon-type pet. How could David simply whisk it away with a meal?
What was up with this guy? It was far too pathetic and losing face for a Class VIII Emperor!
Jeannie was baffled.
As for Loona, her expression grew grave.
This was troubling; it hadn’t completed its Evolution yet, and now a rival had shown up at the door.
“Mii.” (Welcome.)
Daphne, on the other hand, didn’t overthink it and began to clap enthusiastically to welcome the new teammate.
David felt a little embarrassed and reminded her telepathically, “Daphne, you’re clapping in the wrong direction; the Time Elf is behind you.”
Startled by his words, Daphne turned around reflexively, but alas, she saw nothing, and could only offer an awkward smile.
The Time Elf waved its hand, realizing that Daphne truly couldn’t see it.
However, this time, rather than showing its usual hint of disappointment, it turned its head towards David, waving its arms excitedly.
“Would you like to come with me?” David extended his right hand, showing a warm smile.
The Time Elf was taken aback for a moment, its mind involuntarily falling into memories.
Ever since it was born, it had lived in a forgotten world.
Even the disaster beasts born from the same river of time couldn’t detect its presence.
Only the river of time occasionally allowed the Time Elf to feel traces of existence.
It often fantasized in its dreams about interacting with other creatures, but every time it awoke, what remained was only an increasingly ethereal emptiness and loneliness.
With these thoughts, the Time Elf took a few steps forward, wrapping its arms around David Jones’s fingers to fully bask in the warmth.
“Rainboow, Rainboow!” (Friend, together!)
It murmured as if it had found a place where it belonged.
David Jones didn’t think too much about it, he poked the Time Elf’s cheek, feeling overjoyed inside.
“So bouncy, so soft.”
He now had an empty contract position, but he didn’t plan to contract the Time Elf right away. Instead, he intended to treat it as a friend, keeping the contract position available for the Dragon Egg of Doom, which could contend with the Fire Separation Vermilion Bird.
Of course, if the Time Elf took the initiative, he wouldn’t be stingy with the contract position.
After all, a snake could become a dragon, so naturally, an elf could too. The name Time Elf Dragon also sounded quite nice!
“Yi.” “Mi.” “Roar.” “Meh.” “Chirp.” “Tweet.”
Although the six pets couldn’t see the Time Elf, it didn’t stop them from greeting the new team member.
“Sorry, they didn’t do it on purpose.”
David Jones was somewhat exasperated as he hugged the Time Elf, who stood to the right of the six pets, and was on the verge of tears.
It was indeed quite astonishing that not even Jeannie and Rainbow or Lolo could detect the Time Elf’s presence.
This terrifying talent of concealing its tracks could prove deadly in an ambush; there was a chance even a Deity Trainer could be assassinated.
But David Jones didn’t want to push it. Given the Time Elf’s current temperament, it might be more suitable as a support healer.
A single application of its time-recovery skill could bring a pet beast on the brink of death back to its apex within moments!
After soothing the Time Elf’s emotions, David Jones had a flash of inspiration. He decided to use a Beast Taming Contract to share the Time Elf’s real-time location with the little ones, to avoid a repeat of the awkwardness of previous encounters like greeting each other back-to-back or sideways.
…
Soon, David Jones had introduced the Time Elf to the names, species, and strengths of Jeannie and the others, after which he found himself struggling with the Time Elf’s dreamy and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Yes, that’s right, the Time Elf didn’t have a name and he needed to come up with one, which gave David Jones, who was terrible at naming, quite a headache.
“Do you guys have any good suggestions?” David Jones pondered for a moment before deciding to take a democratic approach.
“Yi!” (Rainboow!)
Rainbow suggested, looking at the Time Elf’s stunningly colorful wings.
“That’s a duplicate, rejected,” David Jones shook his head.
“Mi!” (Jeannie!)
Daphne proposed.
David Jones sighed.
It seemed he had overestimated their ability to come up with names. Even the abbreviation of Time Elf, which is Timeling, sounded better than that.
“Rainboow.” (I like Timeling.)
Timeling smiled brightly.
“Alright, then Timeling it is.”
David Jones looked up at the luxurious and majestic Candle Dragon Palace.
With Timeling’s membership confirmed, what followed was the moment to explore the Candle Dragon Palace.
…
Boom!
The doors of the Candle Dragon Palace, sealed for who knows how many years, slowly opened, emitting an Arcane Force so potent that it made David Jones feel dizzy.
“Is this Arcane Drunkenness?”
Feeling a slight chest tightness, David Jones grinned.
The concentration of Arcane Force inside the Candle Dragon Palace had actually reached the standards of a Guardian-level Dungeon, far exceeding Dr. Jettel’s estimations.
“How about it? Can you feel the breath of the Time Law?” David Jones asked, looking down at Loona.
“Meh.” (I can.)
Loona nodded excitedly, her eyes filled with anticipation.
Here it comes, the most critical opportunity for transformation in this lifetime had finally arrived!
It was determined to seize this chance to evolve into a powerful Time Emperor!
