Chapter 250 - Strategy (Part 2)
“Are you okay?” Huan Xian’s voice came from not far away.
Jiang Hui knew he was asking about her leg injury. In order to stabilize their shooting position, they dug personal trenches for kneeling shots. The trenches were about 60 centimeters deep, allowing them to kneel down and completely hide under the cover, making them feel quite secure.
However, this position still put a strain on the legs, and for Jiang Hui, it was particularly unfriendly. Although she had dug a little extra space to relieve some of the pressure on her injured leg, it still hindered the healing process.
In this state, standing shooting positions were neither as stable nor as flexible as kneeling ones, and she had no choice but to endure it. Jiang Hui tried her best to ignore the pain in her leg and focus on staying alert.
The others knew this wasn’t the time for advice, so they didn’t press the matter.
Even though they had rested, chatted, and arranged the trenches after reaching the energy point, it might have seemed like they were doing a lot of things. But in reality, it hadn’t taken much time at all and hadn’t delayed their main task.
By the time they had set up in their dug trenches, the entire process had only taken about twenty star minutes. They had simulated that the chest energization was halfway done. It seemed that in about thirty more star minutes, they would complete this round of energization, which was slightly slower than they had expected.
But it’s fine, thirty star minutes is just thirty star minutes. As long as they complete the energization within the time limit, that’s enough. Their plan is to hold out for these thirty star minutes and then leave, since this target is not so easy to handle.
Zhou Xiuwen’s gaze lingered on the L4 position on the map for a moment: “That Lin Maowu from fourth place sure is patient.” There had been no movement from his team so far.
Technically, the energy point where the other team was stationed was very close to theirs. If it had been someone like Huo Qi’s team, they probably would have rushed over by now.
Seeing that Jiang Hui and the others had settled in at L11 with no reaction from Lin Maowu’s team, Zhou Xiuwen noticed that L4, which was a bit farther away, had quietly swapped two groups of people in and out. It looked like a natural replacement, but it didn’t seem like normal movement. Although they couldn’t be sure, at least half of those people seemed to be heading their way.
“He won’t come.” Huan Xian suddenly spoke up from the center. The others, stationed at the four corners, subtly turned their heads, their attention now focused on Huan Xian’s words.
“He won’t come,” Huan Xian said again, his tone firm and without further explanation.
——————————————
“Captain, the first place, Jiang Hui and Clarens, are at L11. You…” At the same time, R186’s team was discussing the same issue as R87 team, who were also talking about the same thing.
Lin Maowu glanced at the person who had made the suggestion. This was already the third time they had brought it up, but he hadn’t given a direct answer.
As expected, the person asking still didn’t get an answer and became increasingly frustrated, his tone slightly filled with dissatisfaction: “You’re delaying things. Eventually, you’ll lose a great opportunity. If you wait until those people leave L11, it will be difficult to find such a good chance again.”
Interestingly, this person was in the same class as Jiang Hui and Clarens. He had been admitted to the second class of the Combat Soldier Division with the top score in his class. He trained hard and was quite talented, but when it came to performance, he was still not as outstanding as the other two. Unfortunately, even as the competition reached its final stages, he hadn’t crossed paths with either of them. Now that such a great opportunity had presented itself, how could he let it go?
He had always been somewhat displeased with those two, but unlike little Carl, he wasn’t interested in using underhanded methods. He wanted to prove that he had the ability to compete with them in a fair and square way, to show that Class Two wasn’t just about those two.
God knows how excited he was when he saw that Jiang Hui’s team was stationed so close to them at L11. However, this team wasn’t under his command; it was still up to R87’s leader, Lin Maowu, to make the final decision.
Jaidy had originally thought that Lin Maowu, being in fourth place, would feel some dissatisfaction and take action. But to his surprise, Lin Maowu wasn’t listening at all, and no matter how much he tried to persuade him, it seemed like he wasn’t taking it seriously.
At this point, he could no longer hold back and didn’t care about his tone anymore.
“Delaying?” Lin Maowu raised an eyebrow upon hearing this. “A great opportunity?” Then, it seemed the person also found this statement quite absurd, and he chuckled with a hint of amusement. “Then tell me, what kind of great opportunity is this?”
Kais Jaidy widened his eyes slightly, feeling that his captain had become even more unreasonable. With Jiang Hui and Clarens appearing at L11, the other teams would surely pursue them relentlessly. They were positioned close to L11, so why couldn’t they seize the opportunity?
“Do you think you can beat Jiang Hui or Clarens?” Lin Maowu asked casually.
As expected, the person was at a loss for words. This was difficult to answer. While he was confident that his gap with those two wasn’t too big, how could he know the outcome without a direct confrontation? He didn’t think they were particularly impressive when training alongside them.
Seeing that the person seemed unsure of how to respond, Lin Maowu sneered coldly. “You can’t beat them.” He was now certain of that.
It was already difficult enough to stand out among the thousands of students in the military category, let alone climb to the top.
Everyone is under the same conditions, with the same amount of time for the competition, yet others can defeat hundreds of competitors and rank at the top… even he, Jaidy, couldn’t achieve that. What right did he have to be so confident that he would win?
The guy spoke so casually, and yet hadn’t even figured out the situation, wanting to recklessly charge in. If they actually encountered each other, he might be the first to fall. What was he dreaming? Did he think Jiang Hui and Clarens were just the kind of small fry he could take down with a single shot like usual?
Moreover…
“As for the two you mentioned, I don’t know them well enough to say whether I could beat them. But the guy ranked eighth on their team is in my class, and I’m sure I can’t beat him. As for you guys going in, the only possibility is that you’ll be giving away points, so I won’t be joining in on this mess. If you want to go, feel free to go on your own.”
He’d be crazy to go provoke someone like Huan Xian. Lin Maowu still wanted to keep his fourth-place position. If he were to walk right into danger now, he’d probably be eliminated immediately.
Jaidy was stunned. “I… I… this…”
Lin Maowu didn’t look at him anymore and instead focused on the map in the sky.
——————————————
Meanwhile, several miles away at L11, the first batch of unwelcome guests was about to arrive.
Just as Huan Xian had thought, the people from L6, who were originally considered the biggest threat, had actually stayed put and showed no signs of moving.
It seemed that L6 wasn’t a danger for now. The team mentally marked it off, but still, a question mark remained in their minds as they slightly shifted their attention.
“L4 has swapped again; the previous team just left half a star hour ago.”
“This is already the fourth wave, right?” Xierman, who was positioned at the back line due to his average shooting skills, furrowed his brows.
