Chapter 175: Welcome
After a long time they finally reached Burnis City.
Their trip was easy and not. At least it was much easier than any of Vacuse's usual trips. Apart from Blood Spike, two more groups attacked them on their way with the aim of killing Vacuse Vorrakyn, but they all failed.
From the three hundred Soulbearers on the carriage, six lost their lives due to the fight, bringing their numbers to two hundred and ninety-four.
Vacuse himself did not have to lift a finger and only watched as his guards fought.
But finally, they saw Burnis City.
The city was a sprawling one of rusted roofs and tall, round buildings.
There were three eye-catching things that could be seen almost immediately.
The first was a tall pole that ended in a large flapping flag of the Vorrakyn Dragon. The flag was taller than the tallest buildings and seemed to have some enchantments that drew the eyes immediately.
It stood at the western part of the city, which marked the Vorrakyn's territory. It was also the largest part.
The second thing that drew the eyes, just like the Dragon's flag, was another flag that stood in the eastern part. It was just as tall as the Vorrakyn's own, but it ended in a blue shimmering flag imprinted with blue waves.
That was the flag of the Eastern Region, of the Grand Duke of the Eastern Region, the Stormhaven family.
The third thing was even higher than the flags.
It was a ship. A large golden ship that shimmered brightly in the air, and just looking at it would cause one to feel the power imprinted deeply in it.
It was the Gold Accord ship.
That was in the hand of one of its commanders, the Iron Knight.
And immediately, as Vacuse's ship swept closer to the city, the ship rumbled to life, throwing out shocking pressure. A faint beam of light poured from it and enveloped Vacuse and all the others before they even knew what was happening.
The light searched them and then disappeared, leaving only faint words in the air. "Welcome, young master Vacuse Vorrakyn, we have been expecting you."
Vacuse stood at the back of the dragon and looked at the city, his face showing no hint of emotion as they flew above the buildings.
And now that they were above, looking down at the city below, they could see faint green mist everywhere, pulsing as if in response to someone, or something, breathing.
Vacuse narrowed his eyes. "We are here."
He had been in a strange mood since Blood Spike attacked him. He had spoken only a few words that could be counted and left his followers looking at him strangely, but now, he seemed as if he was back.
The reason for his strange mood was that he was actually training with Rith.
But his attendants did not know that, and he was not willing to explain.
As they made their way over to the flag, bells began to toll in the city, alerting those who had not seen the dragon construct that their Lord was here.
At the base of the flag was a castle. It was a castle compared to Burnis City, as it was far inferior to most of the ones Vacuse had seen and slept in, but it was still a castle.
And it was immediately apparent that they had taken great care to prepare it for the coming visitors. It was clean, the walls painted. Even flowers were planted in front of the courtyard.
Speaking of the courtyard, as the dragon construct descended, sending out gusts of wind, Vacuse saw that all the inhabitants of the castle, as well as all the important people on the western side of things, as well as gang members in the city, had gathered to welcome him.
He was amused.
The dragon construct finally touched down, sending dust billowing into the air. At the same time, the carriage reached the ground and Soulbearers, an army, poured out.
Two hundred and ninety-four Soulbearers of the third stage. They surrounded the dragon construct, their eyes cold and their backs straight. The aura that surrounded them was a deep, rolling, mild bloodlust that made it seem they would jump into war at a moment's notice.
The sight shocked everyone into silence.
Vacuse stood at the back of the dragon construct, his back as straight as a longsword, his eyes cold and red. He studied the people gathered.
At the very front was the Lord of Burnis City, the lord responsible for the western side. He was an older man with dark furious eyes that looked at the world with ruthlessness, as if he had seen the worst the world had to offer, and maybe he had, as the Lord of Burnis City.
And behind him were what Vacuse assumed to be his family members.
Vacuse looked down at him without saying anything, and soon, the courtyard settled into deep silence.
There were different ways to go about his mission in Burnis City, and the first one was to cooperate with the Lord to do things, or to simply take direct control without minding the local authority.
Although, with the Great Dungeon now in Burnis City, the Lord was about to see a rise in his status, even though he was at stage two at the moment.
Vacuse looked at the Lord and his intention settled on his face. "What is your name, Lord?"
His voice was filled with arrogance and indifference, as if the one he was speaking to was beneath him.
The Lord was smart enough to know what was happening. It was expected after all.
He bowed deeply, and everyone did too.
"Hail... the Dragon heir! I am Joryth Mveil, Lord of Burnis City. The western side."
"Joryth, eh? Tell me, Joryth, how is it that a stage two like you can rule in a city such as this?"
He stared at him and bowed his head. "My lord... I rule not by my strength, but because I am the only suitable one."
Vacuse raised his brows.
