The SSS Legendary Dragon Chose Me On Rebirth

Chapter 168: Strange people

Vacuse nodded his acceptance.

It was something that would never happen in his last life, but that was then and this was now. Things were different. He had done things differently, and now he was in the position where people could bow to him.

Although he still had a lot of things he wanted to do in the future, for the time being he was satisfied with what he had done.

"Captain Amros, I am going to leave myself in your care," he said to the newly appointed Captain.

The Captain bowed. "Thank you, Dragon heir. You do not have to worry about anything. We will protect you with our lives!"

Vacuse nodded. After all, his life was the most important thing there was.

He raised his hand and his red ring glinted, shooting out a beam of light that rapidly expanded into the dragon war construct. Stone wings flapped, dust billowed, and it roared into the sky.

Right now, Vacuse's power had increased even more.

The General Commander had personally gifted him the construct after he heard that he would be going to Burnis City, but Vacuse knew it must be more than that.

Still, he accepted it graciously. Why would he not? He had no reason to refuse, and if the General Commanders wanted something later, he would deal with it then.

For now, he gazed at the dragon construct with pride.

Runes had been skilfully etched into its body as if they were scales, giving it a unique look. Its wings were so light-looking they did not even seem like stone, and they flapped with surprising flexibility.

Vacuse could feel the power in it as if he were holding a sword in his hand. After all, he had already made connections with it, and now the dragon construct was his own.

Amros turned to the guards. "We move!"

The three hundred boarded the carriage, while Vacuse commanded the dragon construct to lower itself so he could climb on it with the others.

Vacuse, Harkon, and Kagerou sat in the middle, while Amros sat toward the neck with his hand pressed down on a circular rune, a frown of concentration on his face.

He would be the one to drive the construct.

Soon, the stone of the dragon construct changed to silver steel that glowed faintly. It flapped its wings and took to the air, shooting forward with incredible speed, those atop it protected by a force field.

The carriage also shot forward just behind the dragon, and the two turned into streaks of light as they disappeared into the distance.

☆☆▪︎▪︎☆☆

They had spent three days in the air, blurring through the sky like silver streaks of lightning.

They sped over countless villages, towns, and cities. They did not stop at any of them as there was no need to—everything they needed was with them.

But Vacuse caught signs of what was happening below.

Countless villages had been destroyed, towns overrun by zombies and undead, as those that died by the green light came to life again.

Here and there, Soulbearers dispatched by both the Dragon Lord and local lords combated the situation.

They continued on their journey, and it was mostly peaceful. So far they had only stopped three times to stretch their legs.

On the eleventh day of their journey, they were attacked.

The attack came so suddenly, like quicksilver. A portal opened up in front of them like a yawning void and spat out something.

The dragon construct and the carriage came to a sudden halt, sending a shockwave of wind billowing all around them, scattering the clouds.

What hovered in front was a warship radiating with intense, shocking pressure.

"Oh? It seems we have company." Vacuse opened his eyes from his meditation and offered a slight smile.

Amros narrowed his eyes. "My lord, they seem like a powerful group. In terms of power, we might have the upper hand, but only a little. If we clash, we might come out a little wounded."

Vacuse stood and looked at the ship. "Let us see what they want first, since they are not attacking immediately after seeing us. They might not be a dangerous bunch."

"When have people who block you not attacked you?" Kagerou asked, still sitting sprawled on the back of the dragon construct.

Harkon was already on his feet, following behind Vacuse as he made his way to the head of the construct while the construct flapped its wings around him.

"Do you know you are stopping the Dragon heir?" Vacuse asked lightly. "In the Western Region, it is punishable by death. But before all of that, state your identity before me!"

He studied the ship.

The ship was like a normal vessel without a mast. It was entirely black, as if dipped in darkness, even the runes etched on it concealed.

A lot of people stood atop the ship. They were dressed strangely in narrow black robes and hats, while weapons hung on their waists and backs.

"They are not Soulbearers," Amros said.

There was not one thing specific that pointed to one being a Soulbearer. Instead, it was an instinctive feeling that everyone had when they saw others with their kind of power.

Vacuse's face tightened.

It was the truth. They were not Soulbearers, and yet they all radiated power.

One of them, who seemed to be the leader, stood at the very front. His face was painted black and white in a skeleton pattern. He looked at Vacuse. "Forgive us. We are not used to the customs of the Western Region here, so do not take offense at us appearing just like this."

Vacuse shrugged. "Where you come from, do people just block others without reason?"

"Of course not. But we do have our reasons."

"Do you think there is any reason justified enough for you to cut in front of the Dragon heir like that? It had better be a good one too. My men have been flying for so long that they need a little warm-up."

But it was not the man that answered him.

An arrogant voice cut through. "Of course we have our reasons. We are here to kill you!"
