The SSS Legendary Dragon Chose Me On Rebirth

Chapter 144: Long live the Duke

The Law and Authorities of the Sovereign Ascended are two different things of the same origin.

Duke Frexon's eyes widened when he heard him say that. "You... Drenvar... you have someone backing you secretly! There is no way you should be able to... not when you are not a full Sovereign Ascended!"

This new development did not just shock Duke Frexon and the two remaining Elders.

It shocked all the other people secretly following the tide of the war. When they realized that Drenvar was already a half Sovereign Ascended with an Authority, they were all deeply shocked because it was not something they expected.

Those who had bet on the outcome of the war began to have different thoughts on how it would end.

But now... he has a Law as well?

Authority and Law are different things of the same essence. At the same time, one is significantly rarer than the other. Authority comes with reaching Sovereign Ascended, and if you are on the right path, you can surely gain one.

But Law?

They are entirely different. It is not something tied to the Sovereign Ascended stage, but it can only be cultivated from that stage. It is something personal for each person.

Even some people who were at much higher ranks than Sovereign Ascended could not cultivate the Law. And that was why everyone was shocked!

Duke Frexon pointed his hand at Drenvar. "Do not hold anything back. Kill him!"

Immediately the space around the four of them exploded with shockwaves as their auras clashed. The air whined, twisted, and rippled around them.

Drenvar did not hold back either as he raised his sword to the sky. "Devouring Spirit!"

Instantly all the fire that surrounded him disappeared. The air around him turned cold and frigid as if he had sucked all the warmth away.

The ground directly beneath him cracked and froze over with a thin sheet of ice.

The only sign of warmth around him was the blazing halo atop his head.

At the same time, Drenvar disengaged from his full shift form and his Drake Beast hovered beside him.

Surrounding the Beast were thousands of souls that had been devoured by Drenvar's fire. All of them had been trapped by his Law and now they were absorbed by the Beast.

The Drake raised its head towards the Elders and the Duke. Its cruel, intelligent eyes were filled with mockery as it opened its mouth, throat filled with the fire of a dozen volcanoes, and spewed out flames tempered and powered by thousands of devoured souls.

A rumble shook the heavens, and land of dry sand was created for miles around them.

Red fire was the only thing that now took over the sky, and the heat that followed was felt by thousands of Soulbearers on the battlefield.

On that day, for the first time in years since the Vorrakyn had last gone to war, they killed the Duke of the Red Leaves and all its Elders.

And it was the Dragon Lord who did it!

It was shocking news that made everyone suck in a sharp breath. Not because a Duke in the Western Region was killed.

But because they all felt the might of the Dragon Pathway. They all could not help but think to themselves. What if... it was not a Drake?

What if it was... a Dragon?

"Oh, oh, oh! When I tell you about quality Pathways, this is what I mean. Even an A-ranked can pull this off. This is what it means to be part of the Original Beast Pathways."

The words were spoken by a man who wore a red cap and had a big stomach. His face was kindly and his smile warm. He stood above the command tent of the Red Leaves and yet no one noticed him.

Beside him were two other people in masks.

One of them bowed to the man.

"My lord, the Black Accord has instructed that no one should interfere in the mission here. Besides, the mission has already been given to another Numbered Accord..."

The old man smiled. "Of course, of course. I am not here for that. I am only here to confirm something. Oh look! It is happening!"

From the command tent beneath them, someone walked out. It was Eldrin Sevrix, the former son of Duke Frexon and heir to the Red Leaves, but now... the new Duke of the Red Leaves.

Eldrin walked out of the tent awkwardly, as if he was just learning how to walk. Behind him a trail of shadow quickly slid into him, and his body twitched.

Within a few steps he was walking smoothly.

He looked like Eldrin. But he was completely different. His eyes were black like midnight and his face carried a coldness that chilled the heart.

Eldrin turned to face the man in the red cap, then he looked away, shot into the sky, and blurred away at top speed.

The man in the red cap chuckled. "It is good that I am back in the Empire now. It is finally getting interesting."

Drenvar was feeling cold.

Very cold.

He stood on the back of his Beast, the two of them radiating a chill that began from the heart. It was the aftereffect of using the Law, especially when he was not a full Sovereign Ascended.

He took a deep breath. He smiled. He had accomplished something great, just like the other Dragon Lords who put their lives on the line anytime they fought.

But just then, something caught his attention.

There was an uproar on the battlefield as the Red Leaves forces began to shout and fight even harder than before. "I thought they lost motivation when I killed their Duke?"

He soon understood.

The warriors were shouting.

"Long live the Duke!"

"Long live the Duke!"

"Long live the Duke!"

"Long live the Duke!"

"Eldrin Sevrix!"

"Eldrin Sevrix!"

"Eldrin Sevrix!"

"Long live the Duke! Eldrin Sevrix!"

"Long live the Duke! Eldrin Sevrix!"

"Long live the Duke! Eldrin Sevrix!"

Drenvar's eyes widened as he saw someone coming at him at full speed. "Since when can this brat fly? Is he not still in the second stage?"
