Chapter 4: Time is beneath me!
"London, you're awake, did you enjoy your beauty sleep?"
The insolent human who decided to make fun of an imperial dragon-like myself was a scrawny kid about the age of this vessel. His amber eyes held an extinguished flame inside, put off from all the torture he had probably endured. His black hair, which wasn't as black as my elegant scales, matched the mood of this memory.
'Damn it, has my status lowered this much! Damn it all you trash hero.'
I forced my checks to raise, my muscles fighting with all their will to stop it from happening, and with a joyful tone, I responded.
'Ha, nice one! You were always the funny one so it's to be expected.'
I can't believe I said that. And he could either! He looked at me with a dumbfounded face that made me so embarrassed.
'Did I say something wrong?'
"Um, yeah sure... oh yeah what were you doing last night outside a barrier?"
'I couldn't hold my bladder.'
That sounded more reasonable in my mind.
The silence was thick, we just stared at each other, occasionally blinking. He squinted his eyes, as if he was examining me and responded.
"I see... well you're lucky I was awake, or else you would have been death meat! I had to leave my barrier and carry you to another that is big enough to hold two people while dodging the fast attacks of those damn beasts!"
'So the safe spots are called barriers, and they vary in capacity. Interesting, truly interesting.'
I pulled myself from my daydream and regained my formal act. Holding a deep smile that could seduce anyone.
'And I couldn't be more thankful. But sadly, I don't think there is a way to repay you.'
And it's not like I even wanted to.
A menacing grin appeared on his face, as I'm sure a demon took over his reasoning, or else he couldn't have resisted my smile.
"Oh, but there is a way."
'Fuck!'
I looked at him with terror and- wait is he rubbing his hands together, what kind of goblin did I run into!
...
"Come on everyone! This is your only chance to challenge the legendary London at arm-wrestle. The participation fee is either five dalans, or if you wish to have as many chances as you want, you can bet your stop in a barrier for tonight. The winning price? Whatever your greedy hearts can desire."
His voice echoed through the rooms of the facility, catching the attention of many. Many approached, from timid to confident. From skinny to... plump, they vary. But one thing was in all of them, the desire to win.
I sighed, then slowly smiled, but this time it wasn't an act.
'How did I get myself in this? It does matter, it will just serve as an example of my greatness to the other. It was time for them to see the power of a true dragon! Come on you greedy filths, I'll take you all on.'
I tensed my muscles and waited for one of these worthless humans to challenge me.
But my body froze, as I saw a beast-like human approach me.
'Huh? But I thought there were only kids here?'
He was an absolute machine. He had muscle everywhere, even in the tightest spots. His head had fallen, revealing a shining scalp. His chin looked like it was made out of two big balls, and a scar ran across his menacing face. He towered above the crowd, and I'm sure I could see a tattoo.
I looked at the scrawny kid who had saved me last night and asked him about him.
'Hey, who's that guy? And what's he doing here, aren't only kids supposed to be here?'
He looked back at me, yet with a very confused face.
"Yeah, there are only kids here. Oh and that Michel the third destroyer of the galactic union of the Etrian church. He's actually one of the youngest here-"
Yeah no, I just shut my brain off for the rest of the introduction.
People quickly got out of his way as this Michel guy approached, giving me a clear view of him. I still can't believe this guy was a kid!
He stood down on the chair and wrapped his hand around mine.
'Holy shit, what kind of grip is this! It's like a demon claw is wrapped around my hand and not one of a child.'
This was bad, I started to panic, fear running through my blood streams and my heart beating accelerated. Though no one knew this, my face had remained the same. I couldn't show weakness to some humans!
I took a deep breath and waited for the countdown.
"One!"
"Two!"
"Three!"
As soon as the countdown ended, I poured every bit of my essence into my arm to finish it in one attack. But this guy didn't budge. He just started smiling.
'What kind of psychotic bastard is he? Are there any normal people in this facility!'
I started cursing, as I saw myself getting overpowered. The veins in my forehead had become black from struggle. But I couldn't do anything.
I watched as my hand approached the wooden table, but then.
'Huh?'
I mustered as the great pressure stopped. I looked around, only to see that everyone stopped moving. I had no idea what was happening until.
[Your contracted beast has forcefully activated one of your abilities.]
I exhaled, it felt great finally being able to breathe again.
I looked at the beautiful screen. It looked angelic. And quite literally.
I mean it had the wings and halo of a beautiful angel. One without flaw, that had caused no sin, ever.
The screen itself had a radiant white color and floated on a soft cloud. And yes I tried to touch it but my hand went through it.
The screen quickly changed to display another message.
[Seeing your struggle, your beast has activated one of your abilities to not make a fool out of yourself and him with it.]
'Great minds think alike I see!'
But what kind of ability was this, and why did this screen suddenly appear? I couldn't summon my contract the last time I tried, so why was this happening?
'Hey, can you give me more information about this ability?'
