Chapter 123: Intercepting the Sand Ninja
The group looked toward the sound and saw a young boy.
"Hey, Yahiko, that's so rude," Konan first complained to him, then turned and bowed to the others. "I'm sorry, Lord Hanzo, we..."
Nagato stood by, stunned for a moment, then also bowed in apology.
Fortunately, Danzo had put on his mask before going out, so his identity had not been exposed.
Seeing that others had come to see Hanzo, and that they were just children, Danzo was about to leave.
But when his gaze inadvertently swept over the red-haired boy, his body suddenly paused. He then turned and asked Hanzo, "And who are these people?"
"Oh, them. They are some of the most outstanding up-and-coming talents in the Land of Rain. I have high hopes for them," Hanzo said, revealing their identities without any suspicion.
"Oh, that's a good thing," Danzo said, lowering his head to hide his expression, his tone casual. He then took his leave.
"That's... there's no mistake. Just like in the records, that boy has the eyes of the Sage of Six Paths."
"The eyes of a sage..."
"I must find a way to get them!"
After leaving the steel building, Kyosuke was eager to get back to the battlefield, but Danzo unexpectedly stopped the two of them.
"Although our actions were secretive, we must still be careful of intelligence leaks. You two go and take care of those Sand ninja," Danzo said, giving them a new order.
Kyosuke and the other exchanged a look, then both nodded in agreement.
"Very good," Danzo said, giving Kyosuke a deep look. He then left with the other Root ninja. Since the talks were successful, he no longer needed extra guards.
"What do we do?" Kyosuke asked Rei without turning his head, watching Danzo's retreating back.
"Tsk, what else can we do? We'll monitor the enemy's movements, of course," Rei said irritably.
The two of them then hid in the distance, using Rei's Byakugan to keep an eye on the situation.
Their luck was good. The Sand ninja who had come to negotiate soon left Hanzo's place, not making them wait too long.
Seeing this, the two of them followed far behind, waiting for an opportunity to strike.
After several hours of tracking, the Sand ninja's negotiation team successfully left the Village Hidden by Rain and arrived at the border of the Land of Rain.
"What on earth does Hanzo of the Salamander mean? He said he'd think about it. I really don't understand what he has to think about," a Sand ninja with a puppet on his back grumbled angrily.
"Alright, stop complaining," the leader said coldly.
However, it was clear that his authority was not enough to intimidate his comrade.
The puppet master paused for a moment, then spoke again. "Why can't I complain? The mission failed. We have to find a reason, right?"
Suddenly, as if he had thought of something, he said, "Do you think Konoha might have come to win over Hanzo? Maybe they've already made a deal, which is why that old bastard is stalling."
Hearing his words, the others couldn't help but consider the possibility. And as he had said, since the mission had failed, they had to find a reason.
Little did they know that what was originally just a casual guess had actually hit the mark. It was unknown what this Sand ninja would think if he knew the truth.
Just then, a Sand ninja wearing glasses suddenly stopped the team and assumed a guarded posture, looking back at the road.
"What's wrong?" the leader asked casually.
"Someone has been following us," the Sand ninja with glasses replied.
"Following us?" the man muttered, then also turned to look back.
"In that case, let's see who is so bold."
"The enemy has spotted us," Rei, or rather, Hyuga Saori, suddenly said.
"...How far are we from the enemy?" Kyosuke asked.
"A little over three kilometers."
"So, the enemy team also has a sensory ninja?"
Having confirmed this, Kyosuke and the other were too lazy to continue their tailing and directly sped up, charging at the Sand ninja.
Since a sneak attack wouldn't work, they might as well do it openly.
Besides, Kyosuke, who had just acquired new abilities, was itching for someone to practice on, and the enemy had just delivered themselves to his doorstep.
"They're coming," the Sand ninja with glasses suddenly said.
"Everyone, be on your guard. Let me first..."
Before he could finish, a piercing cry came, getting closer and closer.
Looking up, they saw a boy in a mask and a black windbreaker rushing toward them.
At the same time, the Sand ninja also noticed that the piercing cry was coming from the dazzling flash of lightning in the boy's hand.
"Chidori."
The situation was now clear. The enemy was obviously not here to be friendly.
And so, the Sand ninja all leaped up, trying to dodge the masked boy's surprise attack.
Of course, as they were dodging, they also threw a few shuriken.
Unfortunately, these simple attacks, in the face of Kyosuke, who now possessed both speed and perception, seemed so ridiculous.
With just a few slight movements, he dodged the enemy's shuriken and, with the cry of the Chidori, pierced a Sand ninja's chest.
He casually threw the enemy's corpse aside, a vicious smile on his face as he looked at the remaining four.
At the same time, a black pattern suddenly spread wildly across his body. However, due to his windbreaker, no one could see it.
Kyosuke, with his cursed seal activated, his chakra and speed greatly increased, quickly formed another hand seal.
Sizzle!
The same flash of lightning appeared in his hand again.
A Level 1 Chidori, with Kyosuke's current chakra, could be used a little over three times. But with the cursed seal activated, his chakra had greatly increased, and he could now use it up to six times without a problem.
However, the actual situation did not allow for this. Not to mention the physical burden of the cursed seal, the violent lightning-natured chakra of the Chidori alone did not allow him to use it recklessly.
But three Chidori were enough to defeat the enemy.
Seeing their comrade killed without even being able to fight back, the remaining men were on high alert.
"Wind Release, ugh..." The leader, a jounin-level Sand ninja, was preparing to use a ninjutsu to attack when he suddenly found that the enemy before him had vanished.
"Hasn't he been using his full strength in the fight just now?" he thought in terror, his eyes wide as he searched for the enemy's tracks.
"Aaaah!!!" Suddenly, the scream of another comrade reached his ears.
"Damn it."
Before he could do anything to change the situation, the familiar cry came again.
Naturally, with the fall of the cry, another comrade died at the enemy's hands.
Kyosuke looked at the 140 experience points the three chunin had given him, smiled with satisfaction, and then quickly retreated.
Although he was tempted to test his skills against the enemy who was clearly a jounin, the pain that was spreading throughout his body told him that he was reaching his limit. So, he had no choice but to retreat.
Fortunately, at this time, Hyuga Saori had also arrived.
She gave him a surprised look, then took over the fight.
The result was a foregone conclusion. Even with a one-on-two disadvantage, the two Sand ninja were quickly killed by her.
Ever since the last desperate battle with the elite jounin, Saori's strength had risen to a new level. She was probably not far from that level herself.
After the battle was over, as Saori was cleaning up the battlefield, she asked Kyosuke with curiosity, "Three chunin, in the short time I fell behind, you killed them all. You're pretty good now, kid."
Kyosuke huffed with pride at her compliment, then ignored her follow-up questions, tidied up, and left.
"Hmph, what's there to be so proud of," Saori muttered behind him, then also followed.
