Chapter 107: Return to Camp

Thirteen carried the unconscious Saori, and along with the heavily injured Seven, they quickly made their way back.

I wonder how the master is doing, he thought, leaping between the trees, a sense of worry in his heart.

But no matter how worried he was, he didn't dare turn back to look for Kyosuke. Kyosuke's last order had been to meet up with the support unit, and only then could they search for him along the way. Otherwise, no matter what happened, they were not to turn back on their own.

As a clan shinobi, protecting his master's life and carrying out his master's orders were his entire purpose. And when these two things conflicted, he had to prioritize his master's orders. If he were to disobey, the curse seal in his mind would likely kill him on the spot.

With no other choice, the two clan shinobi could only push their chakra to its limits, hoping to meet up with the support unit as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, after successfully killing his target, Kyosuke once again slipped into the body of his summoned beast and slowly slithered in the direction of the Konoha outpost.

To be honest, although he had found this method a bit disgusting at first, after so many times, he had actually grown used to it.

Like the toads of Mount Myoboku, the snake summons also had a massive space inside their bodies. If Kyosuke had mastered Wood Release, he would have probably built a house in here, just like Yamato.

Kyosuke lay comfortably on the snake's stomach wall, recovering his chakra while observing the outside world through the snake's eyes.

Suddenly, a figure flashed past above the summoned beast.

With his powerful vision, Kyosuke instantly recognized the figure.

It was one of the jounin who had been pursuing them. And what caught Kyosuke's attention even more was the man on his back, who was barely breathing.

Were they repelled by Saori and the others? Or were they driven off by the support unit? Kyosuke wondered, a hint of pleasant surprise in his heart.

Whatever the real outcome, Kyosuke at least knew that Saori and the others were safe.

At the same time, a bold idea rose in his mind.

An elite jounin, at least Level 60. If I can take him out...

The more he thought about it, the more eager he became.

No, it's not possible. Although the strongest enemy has lost his ability to fight, that jounin is no pushover.

From the looks of it, he's probably a puppet master. I'd have a certain advantage against him, but my own condition isn't great...

No, the risk is too great. After weighing the pros and cons, Kyosuke forcibly suppressed his impulse and silently controlled the summoned beast to quickly leave.

He was on the battlefield now; there were plenty of ways to get experience points. Although these two could provide him with at least 150 experience points, it wasn't enough for Kyosuke to take such a big risk.

I should get back to camp and rest as soon as possible.

Several hours passed.

Just as Kyosuke was lying in the body of his summoned beast, about to drift off to sleep, a sharp whistle suddenly sounded.

Instantly, Kyosuke's closed eyes snapped open.

But this time, it wasn't an enemy.

"We haven't found any trace of him along the way. Could we have missed him?" a Konoha ninja in a green flak jacket asked the two expressionless figures beside him.

These two were the clan shinobi who had met up with the support unit and had come to look for Kyosuke.

Hearing the jounin's words, Thirteen silently shook her head, indicating that she didn't know either. After all, it was too easy for a snake summon to hide itself. Even with a Hyuga ninja present, if they didn't know its appearance or characteristics beforehand, they probably wouldn't be able to find it. In such a vast forest, there was no shortage of snakes. To check them one by one, they would need to bring the entire Hyuga clan.

Seeing that these two had no better ideas, the jounin sighed helplessly. Just as he was about to say something, a green poisonous snake suddenly leaped in front of him.

Before he could react, the two clan shinobi beside him eagerly spoke. "Sir, is that you?!"

"It's me," Kyosuke's voice came from inside the snake.

"Tsk, tsk." Seeing this magical scene, the jounin couldn't help but show a look of interest. He had seen ninja who could enter the bodies of their summoned beasts, but to enter such a small snake... how did he do it?

After thinking it over and not being able to figure it out, he could only sigh with admiration. As expected of a summon from one of the three great sage regions, it was truly extraordinary.

After confirming the identity of the newcomer, Kyosuke jumped out of the snake's body.

"Sir, it's so good to see you're safe," Thirteen said with emotion, seeing Kyosuke appear.

Unlike the cold and taciturn Seven, Thirteen, perhaps because she was a woman, was more emotionally expressive. Kyosuke was also happy to talk to her. Although Seven was stronger, his personality... Kyosuke sometimes really didn't know how to communicate with him.

After a simple exchange of greetings, they began to recount their previous experiences.

When Kyosuke heard that Saori had severely injured the powerful Sand ninja with a single powerful Gentle Fist technique, he couldn't help but praise her. He had known that she, who had worked with the likes of "Ansui" and "Yage," couldn't possibly be just a newly promoted jounin. But for her to be able to severely injure, and even nearly kill, an elite jounin, it still made Kyosuke sigh with admiration.

As expected of the Hyuga clan, who possessed one of the three great dōjutsu. Although the inheritance of Ōtsutsuki Hamura had likely been diluted over time, their strength was by no means as simple as depicted in the original story. At least, from Seven's description, the Gentle Fist technique Saori had used had never appeared in the original story.

It seems I'll have to be more careful when dealing with them in the future, Kyosuke silently reminded himself.

Then, after meeting up with the other Konoha ninja who had come to support them, they returned to the camp together.

After returning to the camp, Orochimaru held a small celebration for Kyosuke and the others. After all, Kyosuke had successfully blown up a key armory of the Sand ninja. This was a feat worth celebrating.

After this, the Sand ninja's offensive would surely be slowed. This would also give Konoha more time to prepare. It could be said that Kyosuke's contribution was not small.

Even Orochimaru, when he had sent him on the mission, hadn't expected him to be able to achieve this. He had thought that Kyosuke and the others would at most be able to harass the enemy as they retreated.

So now, as Orochimaru looked at Kyosuke, a strange look appeared in his eyes.
