The Secret Marriage Pact

Chapter 208: Riddles Of The Labyrinth

The air inside the underground labyrinth was thick and stifling. Each step echoed off the narrow stone walls, creating a sense of disorientation for Rahul and his team. The group had ventured deep beneath the city, following cryptic coordinates provided by Evelyn in her last transmission. They had no choice but to trust her despite the betrayal, her knowledge was proving invaluable.

The labyrinth was ancient, its walls etched with strange symbols and carvings. Zara's flashlight swept across the marks, illuminating what appeared to be a map.

"These symbols…" she murmured, tracing a pattern with her gloved hand. "They're not random. They're guiding us."

Rahul crouched beside her, studying the intricate design. "Do you think it's a code?"

Zara nodded. "Definitely. But it's layered. There's a message beneath the surface."

Rylan, standing guard, scoffed. "Great. Another puzzle. Just what we need in the middle of a life-or-death chase."

Rahul shot him a warning glance. "This isn't the time, Rylan. We need to stay focused. If this labyrinth really leads to the master control room, it's our only shot at stopping Orion's plan."

Further down the twisting corridors, the group reached a massive stone door. Engraved on it was a riddle, written in an archaic language. Zara's AI device beeped as it attempted to translate.

"What's it say?" Sana asked, her voice strained from the tension.

Zara frowned as the translation appeared on her screen. "It's a riddle:

'I am not alive, yet I can grow. I lack lungs, but I need air. What am I?'"

Rahul glanced at the others, the weight of urgency pressing on them. "We don't have time for this. Think!"

"Fire," Sana whispered. "The answer is fire."

Zara hesitated, then nodded. "She's right."

Rahul pressed a button near the engraving, and the word "FIRE" illuminated on the stone. The ground trembled, and the door slid open, revealing a chamber bathed in a faint red glow.

The group stepped inside cautiously. The room was lined with mirrors, each reflecting distorted versions of themselves. The effect was unnerving. Rahul felt his pulse quicken as his reflection twisted into something unrecognizable a version of himself consumed by darkness.

"This place is messing with our heads," Rylan muttered, gripping his weapon tightly.

Zara's voice was steady. "It's psychological warfare. They're trying to break us."

In the center of the room was another riddle, etched on a pedestal. Beneath it was a keypad.

'I can be cracked, made, told, and played. What am I?'

Rahul's mind raced. This time, the riddle seemed simpler. "A joke," he said aloud.

Zara keyed in the answer, and the mirrors shattered instantly, leaving the team in darkness. When the lights flickered back on, a new pathway had appeared.

As they progressed, the labyrinth revealed more than just riddles. Rahul noticed symbols on the walls that matched the ones they had seen in Orion's old blueprints.

"These aren't just decorations," he said. "They're part of the system. This labyrinth is directly connected to Orion's operations."

Zara's face lit up with realization. "If we can find the core of this place, we might be able to disable Orion's mainframe entirely."

But their relief was short-lived. A low hum echoed through the corridors, followed by the sound of footsteps.

"They've found us," Rylan hissed, raising his gun.

The group ducked into a side passage, their breaths shallow as shadows danced on the walls. Orion's guards were close, their voices muffled but menacing.

Rahul gestured for the team to move silently. They navigated the passage until they reached another door, this one marked with a glowing symbol resembling a keyhole.

"This has to be it," Zara whispered.

But before they could approach, the walls began to shift. The labyrinth was changing, trapping them. Stone barriers rose from the ground, separating Rahul from the others.

"Rahul!" Sana shouted, her voice filled with panic.

"I'm fine!" he yelled back, even as the ground beneath him trembled.

Through the shifting walls, a figure emerged. It was a hooded man, his presence commanding and sinister. He raised a hand, and the walls stopped moving.

"You've come far," the man said, his voice cold and calculating. "But this is where your journey ends."

Rahul clenched his fists, his mind racing for a way out. But the man's next words froze him in place.

"You've been chasing shadows, Rahul. But the real enemy… is closer than you think."

The chamber plunged into darkness, leaving Rahul to face the unknown.
