Chapter 54: Chapter 54
The Feng Clan wasn't the only one making moves. The other two noble clans, along with countless lower-grade clans, had begun their own preparations, each working tirelessly to position themselves advantageously ahead of Zhou Lianchen's upcoming birthday celebration.
Rumors of the prince's actions, his unparalleled strength, and his merciless handling of the Song Clan had spread far and wide. For many, the event had become more than a birthday—it was a political battleground, a chance to curry favor with someone who was quickly becoming the most powerful figure in the region.
Yet, despite the growing scheming and plotting, Zhou Lianchen couldn't have cared less.
He didn't bother using his instincts to uncover the moves being made behind the scenes. Why would he? Such matters were far beneath him.
He didn't even care to know how the tournament for the Dragon Tomb was progressing at the moment. While others scrambled, strategized, and worried, Zhou Lianchen remained focused only on what mattered to him.
"What do you think?" Lianchen asked, turning to Lan Mei as he adjusted the white suit he had just created.
The suit was a masterpiece, a seamless blend of modern Earth's design and the fantastical enhancements of the cultivation world. Its sleek lines and pristine color gave it an air of elegance, while the material itself was leagues beyond anything found on Earth.
It wasn't just aesthetic. The suit was flexible enough to allow for complete freedom of movement, yet durable enough to withstand attacks that could level cities. The craftsmanship was immaculate, each thread infused with a subtle energy that gave the fabric a faint, mesmerizing glow under certain light.
"You'll have to put it on first," Lan Mei said, her tone laced with skepticism. "You already know what I think about this thing you call a suit. It's... weird. The whole concept is weird to me."
Without hesitation, Lianchen shrugged and began undressing, not caring that Lan Mei got a clear view of everything. In a matter of moments, he had slipped into the white suit, its sleek fabric conforming perfectly to his frame.
The suit was immaculate—a pristine white ensemble, complete with a matching tie and a pair of styleless shoes that somehow complemented the overall look.
Lan Mei froze as she watched Lianchen adjust the suit, straightening out the tie with a sharp, confident motion. The transformation was startling. She hadn't expected the suit to turn Lianchen into… something else entirely.
Her mind scrambled for words, but the only one that surfaced was adorable.
She almost lost control, fighting the urge to rush over and scoop him up like the cute little thing he was. But she managed to restrain herself, her composed demeanor barely intact.
"I stand corrected, young master," she said after a moment, her voice calm but carrying an undertone of genuine approval. "This suit looks amazing, much better than the one you wore on your sixth birthday."
She paused, her gaze lingering for a moment before adding, "Something about this one feels… different."
She gave a faint nod, though inwardly she was still marveling at how effortlessly charming he looked.
"Yeah, that last model was pretty much a prototype," Lianchen said with a faint smile, adjusting his cuffs as he admired his reflection. "Even so, it was popular, considering how many people bought it. Like all things, it needed time to be perfected."
He glanced at Lan Mei, his smirk widening slightly. "It took me one year to perfect this."
Recreating the suit wasn't as easy as it sounded. In a cultivation world where modern-day clothing didn't exist, even the concept of a suit was alien. Lianchen had to single-handedly recreate the techniques required to design and craft something so simple yet refined.
For someone who had never given much thought to fashion or textiles, the process had been an uphill battle. Trial after trial, failure after failure, yet he had persevered.
And now, standing there in the finished product, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride.
With his birthday just around the corner, Lianchen felt a wave of satisfaction. Completing the suit project before his special day felt like a personal victory.
Sitting back in his chair, his gaze drifted toward the cage in the corner of the room, where a cluster of spiders was housed. The delicate, shimmering threads of their webs glistened faintly in the light.
It was thanks to these spiders that his creation had been possible. Their webs, far more durable and flexible than any material he could have recreated from memory, had been the key to achieving the perfect balance of durability and comfort for the suit.
Lianchen sighed, his distaste for spiders evident in the way his eyes narrowed slightly. He didn't like them—having to put up with them so close to his bed had been an ordeal. But even so, he couldn't deny the immense help they had been.
For that, he felt grateful.
"...A spider is missing," Lianchen muttered, his sharp instincts picking up on the discrepancy immediately. His eyes narrowed as he scanned the empty cage, his brow furrowing with annoyance.
Lan Mei raised an eyebrow, sensing his unease. "A spider?" she echoed, her confusion evident.
She extended her spiritual sense to double-check, only to confirm his observation. "You're right. Five spiders seem to be missing…" she said thoughtfully before trying to reassure him. "But don't worry, young master..."
Her words were cut off as she blinked and realized Lianchen had disappeared entirely.
"Young master?" she called, her voice tinged with disbelief.
Activating her spiritual sense once more, she quickly traced his location, only to discover that he had teleported away. For a brief moment, her mind reeled as she pieced together what had just happened.
He'd used a teleportation technique, one so precise and advanced that it should have been impossible for someone of his cultivation level. Yet all of that was pushed aside in her mind as she focused on the glaringly obvious.
"Did… he just teleport away because of spiders?" she asked aloud, standing there in stunned silence.
The image of the fearless prince, who could crush mighty clans with a glance, vanishing because of a few missing spiders was so absurd that she found herself speechless. She sighed heavily, rubbing her temples.
"Of all the things to send him running..." she muttered under her breath, trying not to laugh at the sheer absurdity of it.
Unable to hold back a small laugh, Lan Mei shook her head and quickly located the five missing spiders, gently rounding them up with her spiritual sense and placing them back in the cage. Once the task was complete, she teleported to where Lianchen had gone, finding him standing serenely before a vast, shimmering ocean.
The waves crashed gently against the shore, the endless blue stretching as far as the eye could see.
"I've always wanted to see the ocean," Lianchen said, his tone light and carefree. His gaze was fixed on the horizon, his arms folded behind his back, the faint sea breeze tousling his hair.
"I just had this uncontrollable urge to come and admire the beauty of an endless blue sea... Isn't it beautiful?" he asked with a relaxed smile, his voice as calm as the waves.
"Yes, it's truly a wonderful sight, young master," Lan Mei said with a roll of her eyes, though her tone carried a hint of amusement.
Lianchen's gaze remained fixed on the vast expanse of the ocean, his expression contemplative.
"Seeing this sight, I can't help but have a question…" he began softly, his voice carrying a thoughtful tone. "Is the ocean a soup?"
Lan Mei blinked, caught off guard. "A soup?" she repeated, incredulous.
"It has everything it needs to be called a soup," Lianchen explained, his tone entirely serious. "There are underwater volcanoes to heat the water, it has salt, and there's plenty of meat and vegetation within it. Doesn't that make the planet one large bowl we stand on?"
For a moment, Lan Mei was left speechless. What had initially seemed like a ridiculous question suddenly struck her as oddly profound, even if it still bordered on absurdity.
She sighed, rubbing her temples as she shook her head. "Let's go home," she said, finally snapping herself back to reality. "I don't want you getting your new suit dirty—not when your birthday is just around the corner."
Lianchen nodded without protest, his thoughts seemingly still on his philosophical musings.
With a wave of her hand, Lan Mei activated her teleportation technique, and in an instant, they disappeared from the tranquil coastline, returning to the comfort of home.
