The Rise of a New Demon King

Chapter 15: Behind Closed Doors

The sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm glow over the training grounds. The quiet, empty field was a far cry from the chaos that had consumed Chiyo's life recently. But now, it was the place where he hoped to push his limits, to evolve beyond the man who had failed so miserably the night before.

Chiyo stood tall, sweat dripping from his brow as he prepared for another grueling session. His body ached, and his muscles screamed in protest, but he refused to stop. Kenzo had been tough on him—pushing him to the brink of his endurance, testing him in ways that left him gasping for air. Still, Chiyo didn't back down.

Kenzo: "You're still not where you need to be, but you've shown progress. Let's see if you can handle the next step."

Chiyo wiped the sweat from his forehead and nodded. He was exhausted, but there was no turning back. He had to push harder. For his family. For himself.

Kenzo stood at a distance, watching with a keen eye, offering occasional pointers but allowing Chiyo to make his own choices in the heat of battle. Kenzo's words were few, but they were always sharp and to the point.

Kenzo: "You have potential, but you need to tap into something deeper. Your fear of losing has been holding you back. You need to embrace it, use it."

Chiyo's breath was ragged, his body trembling from exertion, but he clenched his fists and focused, determined to meet Kenzo's expectations. He couldn't afford to be weak anymore.

Meanwhile, Kenzo stood tall, his sharp gaze never leaving Chiyo. He understood the stakes. If Chiyo was going to be the one to help maintain balance, to fight alongside him against the rogue devils and demons, he needed to be strong. And strength, Kenzo knew, wasn't just about power—it was about control.

While Chiyo trained tirelessly, a different, quieter storm was brewing far from the training grounds. Shiro's father, Akira Tachibana, had long since ceased to be a simple office worker. Behind closed doors, he was known by a different name and was at the head of a covert organization, one that worked tirelessly to protect humanity from the creatures that lurked in the shadows.

This organization, called Kagemoritai, operated in secrecy, tasked with eliminating monsters, devils, and rogue demons that threatened the balance between the human world and the Demon Realm. To most, Akira was just a father, a husband, and an ordinary man. But to those in the know, he was the leader of the most powerful and well-hidden force against the supernatural.

The Kagemoritai had a vast network of agents, each highly trained and equipped to handle the deadly creatures that slipped into the human world. Akira's role as the head of this organization was crucial, but he kept it hidden from his family—especially from Shiro. It was a life filled with danger, but Akira had long ago made peace with the sacrifices that came with protecting the world from threats few even knew existed.

Tonight, Akira sat in his office, the soft hum of computers and flickering lights the only sound in the sterile room. His face was tense, eyes scanning a series of reports on his screen. The latest surge in rogue devils and demons had caused an unprecedented spike in activity, and Akira knew that his organization would need to step up its efforts.

Suddenly, a knock echoed through the door, pulling him from his thoughts.

Akira: "Come in."

The door creaked open, and standing in the doorway was Kenzo, his presence commanding and unmistakable.

Kenzo: "Akira. I hope I'm not interrupting."

Akira straightened in his chair, glancing up at the man he had come to trust over the years. Kenzo's work with the Kagemoritai had been invaluable, and despite his somewhat unorthodox methods, Akira knew he was one of the best.

Akira: "Kenzo, what brings you here?"

Kenzo didn't waste time with pleasantries. He walked into the room, his posture rigid, and his expression serious.

Kenzo: "I need a favor."

Akira raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the unusual request.

Akira: "What is it?"

Kenzo's eyes narrowed, but he didn't answer right away. Instead, he gave Akira a look that made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. There was something in his gaze—something hidden.

Kenzo: "There's a certain individual I've been keeping an eye on. Someone I believe has potential. I want to take him under my wing, train him. Make him ready for what's coming."

Akira was silent for a moment, his gaze steady as he considered Kenzo's words. It wasn't like Kenzo to ask for permission. In fact, he usually took matters into his own hands without waiting for approval. But this was different.

Akira: "Who is it? Why do you need my permission?"

Kenzo's eyes narrowed, but he didn't answer right away. Instead, he gave Akira a look that made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. There was something in his gaze—something hidden.

Kenzo: "I can't say much right now. But trust me, he's the one. He has the right instincts. I'll explain everything in due time. But I need you to approve this. It's important."

Akira studied Kenzo, trying to read between the lines. He had known Kenzo for years, and while he respected his judgment, there was something about this request that didn't sit right. Kenzo was a skilled fighter, but he also knew how to manipulate situations to get what he wanted.

Akira: "I'll allow it. But I expect full transparency once the time is right."

Kenzo's expression softened slightly, but he nodded, acknowledging Akira's condition.

Kenzo: "Of course. You'll know when the time comes."

With that, Kenzo turned and left the room, his footsteps fading into the distance. Akira sat back down, his mind racing. He couldn't shake the nagging feeling that something bigger was coming—something far beyond the rogue devils and monsters they had been dealing with.

Kenzo had kept the identity of his new pupil hidden, but Akira couldn't help but wonder. Who was this person? And why did Kenzo insist on keeping it a secret?

Little did Akira know, the person Kenzo was referring to was closer than he could ever imagine.
