Chapter 961 Causing Trouble
And if their earlier examinations had missed something this critical, it would fall squarely on his shoulders. As Leo's physician, Zhane knew he had to make absolutely certain this wasn't something they had overlooked.
On top of that, Leo was still under close observation. Although he was no longer in the ICU, his condition was far from stable. A head injury was no small matter; it was the most fragile part of the body, and now he was battling amnesia on top of it.
Zhane placed the highest priority on monitoring Leo's recovery. After giving only a brief and vague reply, he hurried to the nurse's station, instructing them to schedule tests immediately and clear all available examination rooms so Leo could be brought in without delay.
Hearing Zhane's words and seeing the grave look on his face, Hera instantly paled. Her head snapped toward Leo, only to find his complexion just as colorless.
Luke and Rafael quickly rose to their feet, moving to check on him. They gently wheeled Hera's chair closer but took care not to crowd Leo, especially while Zhane was away.
"What do you think happened last night?" Rafael asked, his brows knitted tightly together.
"I don't know, I was sleeping so soundly," Luke said, shaking his head. Normally, he wasn't the type to sleep so deeply; his awareness was always high, so even the rustle of a leaf could wake him. But when he slept with Hera, he could sleep like a child, waking up completely refreshed.
He wasn't the only one. All of them were the same. Having trained in martial arts and faced constant struggles in society, they had developed a habit of staying alert even in sleep. Most of them were light sleepers, especially Luke and Zhane.
One was a doctor who had to be ready for emergencies at any moment; the other was a hidden mafia boss with countless enemies. Both needed to remain on guard at all times.
Even Rafael, who lacked such a dangerous background, was naturally a light sleeper. Yet, when they slept beside Hera, their tense nerves seemed to relax, as if she were their safe haven.
Because of this, none of them had noticed what happened to Leo last night. And they didn't bring it up, not because of blame, but because they didn't want Hera to worry. After all, they already knew how much their overthinking lover tended to spiral.
"Same…" Rafael muttered, and the ward fell silent again, until the sound of hurried footsteps reached them. Zhane came running back, followed by nurses pushing a metal cart stocked with instruments and medicine.
"Alright, get a vial of his blood and send it for testing. We need to see if his body is having any adverse reactions to the medication. Some of you, prepare to wheel the patient to the examination room," Zhane commanded, quickly assigning tasks to the nurses.
Luke moved Hera's wheelchair away from the bed to keep the path clear. Luckily, even though the room had a king-size bed, it hadn't been pushed close to Leo's bed, leaving enough space for Zhane and the nurses to move freely and attend to him.
Although it seemed unlikely that Leo was suddenly reacting badly to the medications, after all, he had been on the same treatment for quite some time, but still, Zhane wanted to be absolutely certain.
It was possible that Leo's body had struggled to adjust, showing only subtle side effects that had gone unnoticed until now. Or perhaps his body had simply reached its limit. They wouldn't know for sure until the comprehensive tests were complete.
Watching the scene unfold, Hera's heart clenched painfully, her eyes stinging with unshed tears. She was deeply worried for Leo, yet powerless to help.
Not long after, Dr. Zigheart arrived to assist in examining him. He, too, needed to confirm that the medicine he had developed wasn't conflicting with the hospital's prescribed treatments.
Although the compatibility had been checked beforehand, he wanted to make absolutely sure. Working side by side, he and Zhane carefully assessed Leo's condition.
Before long, Leo was wheeled out of the room. Hera and the others knew better than to follow; they would only get in the way, so they chose to wait in the room. Once the comprehensive tests were done, they trusted Zhane would bring Leo back and, if necessary, adjust his medications.
So they waited. And waited.
The silence stretched until Rafael suddenly shot to his feet, his brows tightly furrowed. Even without asking, Hera could already sense that it had something to do with Lucas.
"That fucking bastard," Rafael muttered through clenched teeth.
"What's wrong?" Luke asked, absently twirling a strand of Hera's hair as he sat beside her on the couch.
"I already told the company to stop Lucas from posting anything, but the bastard treated my words like air. He went ahead and made another statement, thanking his 'parents' for their support."
"The problem is, he was talking about Logan's biological parents. He basically told the whole world that Logan's parents were backing him, which implies Logan is guilty. Now the netizens are fired up again, piling on with fresh rounds of bullying. At this rate, the plagiarism scandal will never die down if he keeps this up…"
Rafael's grip on his phone tightened. He pinched the bridge of his nose, forcing himself to rein in his anger. If not for the hospital setting, he might have roared in rage.
Even Hera couldn't help but frown after hearing this. It was clear that Lucas had no intention of stopping; he continued to subtly target Logan despite repeated warnings from his management.
At this rate, the harassment and cyberbullying Logan was suffering would never end, only feeding Lucas's twisted sense of superiority and false victory. By slowly crushing Logan, he seemed to feel stronger.
Worse, with the illusion that Rafael and the company were backing him, Lucas believed he could do as he pleased. In his arrogance, he likely assumed Rafael wouldn't drag him down from his high horse, fearing it might tarnish the company's image. And so, he acted with unchecked boldness, doing whatever he wanted.
But why would Lucas dare poke the hornet's nest and defy Rafael's orders? Did something happen to Logan?
The thought instantly made Hera's chest tighten, and without hesitation, she reached for her phone to call him. Logan might not truly be alone. UE was doing its best to shield him and lessen the backlash, but unlike Lucas, who had Logan's parents loudly declaring support, Logan had no one.
That thought gnawed at Hera. She worried he might sink into despair under the crushing weight of public judgment, perhaps even seek a dangerous escape.
Too many netizens hurled words without care or thinking about how others might feel with their harsh words, believing their comments were harmless when in truth, they could break someone piece by piece, driving them into depression, even suicide, especially when their reputation seemed beyond repair.
Hera knew this reality all too well. And that was why her concern for Logan only deepened.
Ring… Ring… Ring…
After three rings, Logan still didn't answer. The call ended, and Hera's heart sank. She tried again, only for the result to be the same—no answer. Anxiety twisted in her chest, so instead, she quickly dialed Betty.
"Hello? What's up?" Betty answered immediately. The moment she saw Hera's name flash across her screen, she picked up without hesitation. Ever since Hera's last incident, Betty had made it a priority to never miss her calls, even setting a special ringtone just for her.
"Betty, could you help me reach out to the Music Director to check on Logan? Lucas has been stirring things up online again, and I'm worried it might get to him… I don't want him to do something reckless." Hera's tone was steady, but the worry behind her words was unmistakable.
Hearing this, Betty frowned and immediately reached for the internal landline to dial the Music Director.
"Don't worry, sweetheart. I'll call him right now. If he doesn't answer, I'll personally go and look for them, and I'll update you right away, okay?" she assured.
But when the call went unanswered, Betty immediately stood from her seat. She needed to check if the Music Director wasn't in his office yet or if he was simply too busy to answer.
After all, it was still early in the morning, and many employees hadn't arrived. Still, she distinctly remembered that both the PR team and the Music Director had worked overtime the previous night to manage the attacks on Logan's reputation; they should still be in the company.
"Alright, please let me know as soon as possible…" Hera said softly before ending the call, not wanting to pressure Betty further.
Wasting no time, Betty strode out of her office and headed straight to the music department's floor. Sure enough, the moment the elevator doors slid open, she was greeted by the sight of exhausted employees still in the same clothes as yesterday.
Members of the PR team were moving in and out of the offices, huddling for quick hour-long meetings to regroup and refine their strategy.
