Chapter 455: A Meeting With Loved Ghosts
[SICARIO]
Rukiya woke up with a splitting headache in the dungeons he had gone to. She wasn't sure if this was part of her reality, but the sight she had seen was still there and fuck if everything was still alright even then.
She had never thought that coming to Sicario forcefully like that was supposed to make her see the impossible but now that she was seeing it she wasn't sure how to react. Perhaps she would faint again, but what good would that do her and the person on the other side then?
"I didn't mean to startle you, really. I hope you feel better now," the familiar voice said and the Greyson alpha could have sworn that she was still hallucinating.
She wasn't far off with her assumption really, seeing as they were in Sicario, but she had to remind herself that she had taken another tunnel, one that was apparently open for her.
However, it wasn't the last tunnel she had used when she had gone to see her mother under there before Hawi murdered her. It was supposed to be an impossible relay, but then what else was supposed to be impossible in a realm meant to be ruled by the craziest psycho of them all?
"What… why… what the fuck happened?" Rukiya asked, hoping that perhaps if she pretended to be fine with this mess, if she had tried to make things cope with her illusions, it would all be better. But nothing was ever going to be better.
Maybe eventually it would. But right now, as she looked at the man who was supposed to be dead, yet was standing next to her in a dungeon that looked like an entire palatial home here, Rukiya was certain her mind was fucking with her.
But at least she could wait and see where this led her, right?
"Atticus… he sent me to one of the Sicario bunkers because he didn't want a fully-fledged war with Alpha Awuor. He just wanted her to know what it meant to have something taken from you.
"Hawi didn't have anything left to lose, not to mention you had already pledged your life to hers. He said that by taking me away, he would give Hawi real pain, and it worked, it seems… because Sicario is experiencing a blood rain right now," the man said.
Rukiya wasn't sure if this was what he was hoping for or if this was a reality. The last time there had been a blood rain was why Alpha Sicario had died and Hawi was in great mourning.
That was the first and the last time they had seen that, so this just didn't make any sense to her, beside, there was nothing left that Hawi could truly lose anymore and she had only a mission to murder and ruin.
That surely couldn't warrant a blood rain, right?
Oh, Rukiya.
"Why should I trust you? If you were in the Sicario bunkers, how the fuck are you here, under my mate's suite? And how the fuck do I know that you're even my best friend after everything that happened?" Rukiya asked skeptically.
She had not seen Adolf's dead body because she assumed it was mixed up in the chaos and the bodies of the dead warrior. She mourned him for two long years without fail, hell even on her mission to the sacred island, she was always thinking of her best friend.
She always thought of what Adolf would do, or even say; and yet right now she was seeing him, in his full strength, a man who didn't look like he had aged. If anything, he had grown buffer, and healthier while the effects of the war were clear on Ruru.
Hell, she was on the winning side and she was still affected by the messes of the war. So, what about her best friend then?
"I wish I could give you what you want and how you want to hear it, Grey. But we both know that Hawi alone with Malika on that island without you to keep her in check is the most dangerous thing anyone would ever do.
"She is with her enemies, the people who forced her into being angry. If you don't trust me, that's alright. Only you can save the realm from being burned down by Hawi, if she gets angry enough to lash out.
"And if that doesn't happen, there won't be anything worth having and she will probably spend the rest of her days locking herself and wallowing in her arrows. Go, find Hawi. Save her from herself and then you can come and question me every night you think you want to know.
"Go save the realm, Grey, we are all counting on you for that," Adolf said and Ruru ran her fingers roughly through her hair. She had seen chaos and she knew that what this man was telling her was so close to the truth.
When it came to rage and vengeance, there was never a person with a murderous desire that would ever match Hawi's. It was a truth, an unfortunate one, and Ruru couldn't call a bluff on that.
Well, if her mate hadn't thrown her into a portal and forced her home, she would have believed that, but the fact that Hawi had set her aside was one thing that made Rukiya understand that perhaps there was a truth to whatever the man was staying with her.
But what were the chances of the mess being so great that they wouldn't ever be able to come out of it?
"I'm not going. She sent me here for a reason and now I find you here. How convenient. Who's to say you aren't one of the Russels brothers pretending to be my dead best friend, huh?" Rukiya said as she grabbed the nearest seat and settled on it. Explore stories on empire
She knew at the back of her mind that this was too great a risk, but what else could she do?
Hawi was a strategist, and Rukiya knew there was always a reason for everything. The fact that she had come to the suite and the door was locked behind her was no coincidence.
That could also mean that even if Rukiya wanted to leave and go find Hawi, there were very high chances that she wouldn't be able to.
"Well then, Grey. Tell me… How have your days been?" Adolf asked and Rukiya stared at him as if to ask whether this was what they had gotten used to. Over the years she had imagined a future with her best friend, someone she loved like a brother but then Atticus took him from her.
And now here she was, facing the same person, as her life fell apart bit by bit. She wasn't sure which part of reality she needed to deal with at this moment but she sure as hell knew the damned greetings were not it.
So, she ignored whatever this Adolf was saying.
"I see you won't talk… Well, lucky for the both of us, I have things to say, things I should have said a very long time ago, and held back," Adolf said.
Rukiya just chuckled slowly. She wasn't sure how long she was supposed to be in her, but she was willing to call the bluff on the warrior she had loved. There was no way this was her Adolf.
"Suit yourself," Rukiya said as she zoned out when the apparent Adolf started talking.
