Chapter 203: The Dragons' Path
The young Red Dragon he had captured in the wild years ago had finally grown into a 'slender and graceful' young lady.
Although her size was still two sizes smaller than Tania and himself, she could chase a dozen Chromatic Dragons around, making them cry for their fathers and mothers in a chaotic frenzy.
The most eye-catching among them was Mofei, the White Dragon standing out amidst the Red Dragons. While flying, he kept looking back and shouting,
"Boss Lizrite, don't just pick on me, alright? You know I've always been the most loyal to you, unlike these red hides, who are always thinking about how to have children with you. OUCH! Stop hitting me! I was wrong!"
Perhaps due to his relatively 'straightforward' nature, he was the one being chased and beaten by the other dragons the entire time.
Maybe for that reason, he was probably the most resilient among this group of dragons.
David saw red Magic Patterns flickering on Mofei's scales. Even the Red Dragon's breath could only cook him medium-rare. Though his body was emitting blue smoke, he was still able to jump around and loudly beg for mercy.
"Dragon of Carved Skin?" David narrowed his eyes.
"Yes," Tania explained. "After undergoing an elimination assessment through practical combat as 'mercenaries' for the Celestial Red Dragons, every dragon can apply for an advanced occupation. Of course, the options available are just the common fare from Evil Scale Fortress. Since Mofei is the only White Dragon in our Red Dragon youth training camp, he has suffered the most bullying and beatings. So, he directly chose to be a Dragon of Carved Skin. According to him... these Red Dragons become more violent as they grow, and he doubted he could have waited for your return if he wasn't tough enough..."
David was momentarily speechless, not knowing where to even begin with his retorts.
Compared to the 'Magic Patterns' his projection-body in Toriel had created using the red-robed bald man's knockoff techniques, what Mofei now possessed was the genuine Dragon of Carved Skin ability.
The red-robed version of the Magic Patterns was more inclined towards functionality, with crucial aspects like Spell Storage and Mana Energy Drain.
The genuine engraving on Mofei, however, wasn't about fancy frills but focused on returning to the primal defense—ultimate defensive power.
This ability initially increased his spell resistance. At the second stage, he could gain Suppressed Vulnerability and Poison Resistance.
Mofei should have reached the third stage by now: Energy Resistance. However, he could only choose one among acid, cold, electricity, fire, or sonic resistances.
Without a doubt, being in this den of Red Dragons, Mofei hadn't hesitated to choose fire resistance.
It was probably this stack of resistances that allowed this White Dragon, who should have feared fire the most, to feel like he was merely in a sauna, despite being repeatedly roasted by the flame breath of juvenile and even young adult Red Dragons.
This is simply outrageous, David thought.
As Tania continued her explanation, David learned more about the Sculpted Hide Dragon's subsequent power. As Mofei grew and could engrave more Magic Patterns, he could go on to obtain abilities like Mind like Still Water, Innate Defense, Enhanced Damage Reduction, Extra Energy Immunity, and Overcome Weakness, among others.
Perhaps one day Mofei could reach the seventh stage and gain an Anti-Death Barrier, similar to a Priest's spell.
As the name implied, it granted a one-time death immunity effect.
The most outrageous part was that it reset every day.
Truly an undying cockroach, David mused.
At the ninth stage, Chaos Body, he would possess resistance to nearly all elemental energies, and his self-healing ability would start at three times that of his dragon peers.
If this fellow were tough enough to engrave the Dragon of Carved Skin to the legendary eleventh stage, then aside from the legendary chaos weapons that counter everything, it's unlikely any ordinary attack could breach his defense.
Of course, that was just the legend of this advanced occupation. After all, even among ancient dragons who chose it, very few could reach Chaos Body.
It was simply because the cost was too high and the cost-performance ratio too low.
Besides, even if one were as tough as a dragon-shaped turtle, couldn't others simply choose not to attack them first? Once they had dealt with more threatening targets, they could then take their time to finish off the 'turtle'.
Unless Mofei could max out his Taunt ability, making everyone want to hit him on sight, David considered.
"Boss! WHOA!!! It's really you, Boss! You're finally back! I thought I'd never see you again!" The White Dragon exclaimed. *THUD!* He executed a rough landing right before David, reminiscent of a pouncing dog. If it had been any other dragon, that move would have broken half its ribs. But this fellow just shook off the mud from his head and, with Barbarian Rosinde still on his neck, limped towards David. As he hopped over, he whined plaintively in a high-pitched voice,
"Boss, you've got to see this! Lizrite bit my tail and claws again! BOO HOO! Boss, you have no idea! Over these years, she's just bullied poor me..."
"You shut your mouth!!!"
With a dull BOOM, Mofei was sent flying by Lizrite's flame breath. She had gone from joyous shock at seeing David to furious embarrassment in an instant. But with a flip, despite being covered in soot, Mofei managed to scramble up, full of vigor, and continue his complaint,
"WHOA! Look how she bullies me like this right in front of you... These years have been so miserable for me! I just wanted to be a good little White Dragon, quietly dedicating myself and waiting for your return, Boss. But even then, she couldn't stand me! Boss, you must stand up for me! WHOA!!!"
