Chapter 9: I AM NOT CRAZY!!!
I looked back to the same spot I saw the man and he was gone. What was happening? I asked myself again. He couldn't have left so quickly. I wasn't seeing things.
Sammie sighed "Sara, are you sure..." I knew where he was going with this
"I am not crazy" I snapped. "I did see someone there."
"I didn't say you were, Sara." He sighed. "Sikara has been getting into your head lately" he muttered.
No, no, no, no, no!!!
Something was happening and I did not like it. I couldn't have seen things. And I didn't form that image in my head. I saw it—The red eyes. It looked so clear but at the same time, dark and dangerous. It looked like he wanted to pounce on the first meal he saw. It looked...Hostile and Hungry.
I wasn't Crazy.
Instantly, I burst into tears. Why was everything out to get me? I'm being bullied at school so that was enough right? I cannot be seeing things at this point in my life. I won't be termed Crazy. I'm called a witch, so that was enough. I won't allow Meenah to call me names again.
"Sara, are you okay?" Sammie asked. I could detect the worry in his question.
I quickly cleaned my eyes and answered "yes, of course. I'm fine." I chuckled nervously "I mean why wouldn't I be? Just a little breakdown, don't worry about it."
Still going on with the fake smiles, yeahh??
Now, I wanted to stab my inner thoughts to death.
Sammie took a quick side glance at me, but I still pretended not to see while cleaning the remaining tears from my eyes.
"Everything would be fine okay? Take your mind off Sikara's dreams from now on, I'll handle her." He said softly.
Sikara had nothing to do with what happened today. I wanted to say that but I just nodded quickly and refused to speak anything again. The car was becoming claustrophobic.
*****
We arrived at the school's parking lot at 8:25 am. This meant that I was twenty-five minutes late and I would have to walk through the door of the classroom when the teacher had already started teaching and all eyes would be on me, the teacher then asking me why I was late to her class and me not giving any reasonable response, then she asking me to walk to my seat and open my book to whatever page, me walking and whispers flying around..."Sara Pier, the witch"
I think I was going to be fine. So far I steer clear from the 'Beau Monde' which included Meenah and her crew.
I did a little breathing exercise before attempting to climb down from the car when Sammie suddenly held my hand. "Yes?"
"Hold on" he let go of my hands and brushed his hands on his hair "I'm sorry about what I said earlier" he apologized, looking at me straight in the eyes " I knew what I said hurt you "
Look, Samuel apologizing was a sight! He never does, but when he does, take it from me, he means well. But what I don't understand was why he was apologizing. He hasn't said anything to hurt me. "What?"
"Earlier, I called you a witch" he breathed "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it that way"
I flashed him a small smile "Errr...it's kind of fine, really." On a scale of one to ten, it was a scale of five. It was fine and at the same time, it wasn't.
"Really?" He asked, looking at me like I had grown two heads or something. What was he expecting me to answer? That it wasn't? Okay, now this guy was confusing me.
"Yes. Rea...lly." I drawled out, spelling out each word with utmost clarity, making sure he understands I wasn't bothered about it. "I was used to this after all"
He cleared his throat nervously "uhh...hmm, that was what I've been trying to talk to you about. But I just didn't know how to approach the conversation"
Yeahh, right " You know, I still don't get what conversation you're staying to start here but what I know is that if you don't let go of me right now, I would surely miss the first period and that is very bad for my reputation." He chuckled at the use of 'reputation'
I wondered what about it was so funny.
I opened the door of the car, about to get off when he said one of the most shocking things.
"I spoke with Kendall Jones recently," he said
Wait. What??
"The actual fuck did you say, Sammie?" Why did everyone see the need to surprise me today?
First, it was mom, with her weird healer talk nonsense.
Secondly, Sammie with the mysterious tale of mom smiling at him with her teeth.
Third, it was the strange man in the forest with red eyes and extra-long canines. I could put two and two here, joining the facts and the reality, but I wasn't about to admit it.
Aunt Grace's creepy tales had to be wrong, right? I mean we weren't living amongst vampires, right? The world that we live in was after all a fictional world. So I don't know what to believe in anymore.
And now, Sammie had to break it to me that he talked to Kendall Jones. Kendall fucking Jones of all people.
"Why does it have to be her? That bitch. Couldn't you, like discuss whatever you want to discuss with another person?" I asked him, bitterness laced in my voice
"Well..." I cut him off. Unbelievable.
"You know what? I'm out of here" I opened the car door and closed it with as much force as I could. Sammie followed suit, shouting at the top of his voice, telling me to wait. More like begging. Which probably drew a lot of attention from people outside. And from my peripheral vision, I saw people bring out their phones to take videos.
Very nice. "Superb work, brother"
Now all because of my brother, I would be making the school's headline this week, which might probably last till next week until a new/ catching headlines come up.
I turned back to Sammie. "Why? What is it that you want?" I asked him. I made sure to keep my voice low. People probably thought "The witch, has now captured a man with one of her many spells. "What did you discuss with her?"
Sammie frowned "You don't always get to act out as the victim here. You have a brother who could take care of you, and defend you."
"Ohhhhh, so now I'm acting out? Playing the victim?" I scoffed "As expected. What they've always said. I wasn't the one who went to Kendall Jones, now was I? And you know the bitter part? The fact you knew why I hated her."
The beef I had with Kendall Jones was a historical one. She started all these. This mess I am in, she was the root of it all. She roped me into her dirty plan and left me to rot.
