The Radiant Light - [English Version]

Chapter 25: Guardian Beast

The two children entered a small room. Inside, there was only a bed and some simple furniture, with toys scattered all over. On a table, there was a photo.

Ami: Aaaaaahhh! Amai, wait outside for a bit! (She pushed Amai out)

Amai: What's going on?

Ami: Don't ask, just go outside, quick!

After pushing Amai outside, she immediately closed the door.

Ami: Wait for me a bit, I need to clean up.

Amai: Okay.

Ami: Huh? What did you say?

Amai: Huh, I said okay.

Ami: Why are you talking so weird? Maybe the magic that was just cast isn't quite complete yet.

Amai: I see.

Ami: Alright, you can come back in now.

Amai: Okay.

Amai returned to the room, which was now tidied up and clean. It seemed like she had stuffed everything under the bed.

Amai: You put them all under there?

He pointed at a few toys that hadn't been pushed all the way in, and Ami quickly kicked them back under.

Ami: Don't worry about it. So, what should we do first? Oh right, I have something!!

Ami rummaged under the bed, searching for something.

Ami: Here it is!

She pulled out a large, old book.

Ami: This book contains countless wonders of the world, and also some scary things. You should look through it with me; it's really interesting.

She told him about countless things from the book, so many that he couldn't remember them all, but certain things stood out. One of them was the nature of the existence of all creatures in the world, each having a purpose and role of its own. Then, she told him about humans, about special animals called spirit beasts, about those lurking outside the forest, and about terrifying monsters. While they were absorbed in the book, a voice interrupted.

Oga: You two, come down and eat!!!

Ami: Yes!!

At the dinner table, the food gave off an inviting aroma, and the steam looked so appetizing. The three of them sat down, ate, and chatted together.

Oga: Amai, how do you feel about being here?

Amai: I feel great.

Ami: You can speak to him in our language now. He can understand it. I want to talk too.

Oga: Have you two met Rakam yet?

Ami: Yes!

Oga: Alright then. Let's focus on eating.

After the meal, Ami and Amai helped Oga clean the dishes.

Oga: If you two go out to play, don't wander too far from this forest, and especially stay away from that temple forest.

Ami: The one to the north?

Oga: That's right.

Amai: What's in that place, Grandpa?

Oga: That place was built by a wise sage long ago, perhaps a thousand years ago, from what I've heard. It was created to contain a very powerful force. But monsters guard it, known as the Guardian Beasts. They are strong creatures, five in total, but when humans invaded the temple to seize the power hidden inside, they killed four of them. Yet no one took anything because no one ever returned from the temple.

Amai: How do you know they killed four of them?

Oga: Because back then, someone passing by the temple felt intense resentment, anger, fury, and a murderous aura emanating from inside. That person had the ability to sense the presence of creatures, as he was a skilled hunter from our clan. That means only one Guardian Beast survived.

Ami: What happened to that last Guardian Beast, Grandpa?

Oga: No one knows. It might have left. But that's why you two must never go there. Who knows what still lurks inside? Remember my words carefully.

Ami: Yessirrr!

Amai: I understand.

Oga: Alright, you're done here. Go up to your room and sleep.

The two children left and returned to Ami's room.

Ami: Grandpa warned me about that place a long time ago, but he's never mentioned the Guardian Beasts before.

Amai: Really? So why did he tell us today?

Ami: I don't know! Maybe because of you?

Amai: Because of me? How could that be?

Ami: Just kidding! Let's go to sleep. Hihihi.
