The Princess Disaster Is My Student

Chapter 3: Well played, Mr. Lee

"Come in", the headmaster called out from inside his office after Jun knocked the door.

The young man was nervous after what happened in his first homeroom class in the eventful morning, but he still believed that he did the right thing.

Jun was a man of principles.

Royalty or not, every student had to be treated fairly with no privilege. This prestigious school was full of children of society's elites who sat at the top of the hierarchy, and giving in to one of them would initiate the watershed and he would end up being bossed around by everyone.

'Not in my watch'

Jun clenched his fist tight once and let it go.

"Take a seat"

The headmaster gestured toward the empty seat across his desk and the English teacher duly obliged.

"How may I help you, Sir?"

The man behind the desk had an expression that was hard to read. He was a seasoned veteran in this field. He's dealt with countless high profile socialites. Chaebols, politicians, celebrities - many of them were overly demanding and brought with them their own views on how the school should be run, or more like, how their children should be treated with special considerations.

The headmaster was no push over though. He has committed himself to be a man of principles too. This was the only way to survive on the high-end side of the education industry.

A princess, though - THE Princess Disaster at that, was a different matter.

"I heard about what happened in the morning"

'So I'm in trouble after all', Jun thought to himself.

"The herald came to complain right after he left your classroom. Now, can you explain to me what happened?"

"Nothing out of the ordinary happened, Sir. As such, I have no idea what the herald had to complain about"

The seasoned veteran eyed the greenhorn.

'So you are THAT kind of a guy, eh? I like it. But let's see how you handle it now'

The headmaster cleared his throat.

"Right. So you don't think what happened today was not extraordinary"

"No, Sir. If it is what I think it is, I merely asked someone who didn't belong in the class to leave. Today wasn't a parents-teacher day"

"Is that so?"

"And he bullied one of my students right in front of me"

"Oh? That part I haven't heard, obviously. Tell me what happened"

"He made a girl move from her desk to make way for Li-, I mean Princess Lin"

"You don't think Princess Lin may sit where she wants?"

"Only if the seat is not already taken, Sir"

"You've just called her Princess Lin now. But I hear you addressed her as 'Lin' directly. Do you think that was appropriate?"

This was a tricky one, but there was no way to proceed but to stick to his guns. Jun knew that once you decide to commit to something, backing off can only lead you to failure.

"I don't think I, as a teacher, should be calling any student Your Highness"

"She IS a princess though, after all"

"So you think I should treat her differently?"

"Do you think so?"

"I don't"

The headmaster leaned forward, placing his elbows on the desk.

"Listen, Mr. Lee. With all due respect, we are not talking about some random entitled brat here. She is a lady who is officially entitled to be called by her title"

'How about that, kid?', the headmaster was enjoying this.

"Not in the classroom, Sir. I will not place one student above other students"

The older man smiled inside.

'Yup. This is exactly what His Majesty wanted'

"Very well. That will be it for now then"

"Is that it?"

"Yes, Mr. Lee. Unless you have anything else to say?"

"No, Sir"

"I won't hold you for too long then. It's your first day. I'm sure you are busy"

"I'm fine, Sir. Thank you"

With that, Jun got up from his seat and politely bowed.

Just as Jun was about to leave the room though, the headmaster called out to him.

"Mr. Lee"

"Yes, Sir?"

"Keep it up and stay the way you are. This is a good start"

Jun felt his worries melt away. He felt grateful that he had a boss who understood.

"Thank you, Sir"

The young teacher closed the door as he left and walked down the hallway to head to his first English class, for the morning class he had was just a homeroom class for the new school year's orientation.

'Man, couldn't we have done that talk at the end of the day? I need to clear my head before the ACTUAL class'

As he turned the corner though, someone bumped into him hard - so hard that he felt like he got rugby tackled and fell on his back. Once he came around though, after a brief moment of daze, he realized that he was indeed rugby tackled as there was now someone on top of him.

'What the…'

"Oh, I'm kind of sorry", said the person as she lifted her head that was buried in his chest, which she more or less headbutted as well during the deliberate and reckless tackle.

'Just as planned', the Princess Disaster smirked inside as she brushed her long hair off her face and apologized, gazing directly into the young man's eyes with her hands planted on each side of him.

"Are you OK?"

To Lin's immense disappointment, Jun wasn't phased at all and asked her instead although their faces were only inches apart, close enough for him to smell the exquisite fragrance of her royal perfume.

'Fuck. Now I'm embarrassed', Lin swore to herself and quickly rolled off the fallen man.

"I-, I'm fine. You should watch where you are going"

Jun got up with ease and asked the now embarrassed girl.

"Are you hurt anywhere? Do you need help getting up?"

The young teacher was careful not to offer his hand. Not because she was royalty, but because it has been drilled into him an infinite amount of times that teachers should avoid any form of physical contact with their students.

"Yes, I could use some help"

Lin did not have such inhibitions and offered her hand so that Jun could grab it and pull her up.

In a moment of genius, for which Jun later kicked himself in his head, Jun rolled the notebook he was holding in his hand and pointed it at her.

"Grab this"

'Seriously?!!!'

Blushing and pouting, the Princess grabbed the rolled notebook as Jun pulled her with it.

"There you go. We have an English class in five minutes. Don't be late, Lin"

'He called me Lin again!!!'

It was a costly accident that she will not forget - the shame of having a man who wouldn't even grab her hand to help her get up.

As the teacher walked off Lin looked at his not so broad but also not so narrow back in a perfectly fit suit jacket. His hair was ruffled up a little after their bump, which he didn't seem to have noticed.

'You clumsy puppy', she laughed inside a little. She was the Princess Disaster after all. A little embarrassment here and there could not break her will.

So her carefully planned shoujo manga moment didn't exactly go as she thought it would play out, but at least she got to hear him say her name one more time and that was a small win for her.
