Chapter 332: 179 Father-In-Law (First Update)_2
The Fourth Prince’s face was burning, but he dared not use his royal identity to press the Marquis of Xuanping. He glanced at the four high-ranking men strewn about the ground and then at Chang Jing with his face full of disdain. Gritting his teeth, he respectfully said, “My men were disrespectful earlier and offended my uncle, I hope you can forgive them.”
A seemingly noncommittal sigh followed from within the carriage, before the curtain was lifted.
The Marquis of Xuanping’s cold and haughty gaze fell on the Fourth Prince, “Control your dogs or I’ll have them killed.”
Having said that, he coldly dropped the curtain before the Fourth Prince could respond.
The Fourth Prince clenched his fist and bowed in acknowledgment, “Yes, nephew noted.”
“Aren’t you leaving yet?” Chang Jing prompted.
The Fourth Prince furrowed his brow and left with his four wounded high-ranking men.
After they have all left, he turned back, casting a resentful glance at the still motionless carriage.
Marquis of Xuanping, you’d better stay on top for the rest of your life, or don’t fall hard when you do!
After the Fourth Prince left, the Marquis of Xuanping leisurely glanced at the little girl beside him.
Looks… quite unexpected.
At first, he saw her right cheek, as beautiful as a fairy. Then she turned her left cheek towards him, and he was simply overwhelmed!
Marquis Xuanping: “Do you often walk on the top of carriages?”
Gu Jiao: “Occasionally.”
For every debt there is a debtor; today’s offender was Chang Jing, Marquis Xuanping won’t vent his anger onto her. Besides, he also speculated why she was capable of such lightfootedness.
“Doctor?” Marquis Xuanping asked.
“Physician.” Gu Jiao corrected him.
Marquis Xuanping let out a chuckle: “So, you’re a female doctor.”
“No.” Gu Jiao said solemnly, “A female doctor only treats women, but I just treated you.”
So, are you not a woman?
Marquis of Xuanping: “…”
The Marquis found his teeth hurting!
She’s not impressively good looking, but she sure has a lively mouth.
The Marquis took out a money bag, rummaged in it, and reluctantly extracted the smallest silver coin. Looking pained, he handed it over: “Here, for your consultation.”
This time, it was Gu Jiao’s turn to feel the pain in her teeth.
She had been in the Capital City for quite a while and this was the first time she saw a royal relative being so stingy with his consultation fee. Gu Jiao suddenly felt that the Fourth Prince’s use of “Uncle” was not insincere.
Marquis of Xuanping blurted out: “What? Not satisfied? Aren’t you a physician? You’re not a bandit. How much silver were you expecting for such a brief treatment?”
Gu Jiao, who had just dished out a snappy response, was suddenly at a loss for words.
She silently pocketed the silver coin.
Her appearance was somewhat grievous.
Gu Jiao got off the carriage.
Marquis Xuanping suddenly lifted the curtain: “Are you not satisfied with the amount?”
Gu Jiao nodded her head.
Marquis Xuanping smugly raised his eyebrows: “Well, I’m not giving you more!”
Gu Jiao: “…”
The young lass had stepped on his foot, causing him pain. She nearly broke his waist too.
However, Marquis Xuanping wouldn’t consider Gu Jiao his lifesaver because she’s a physician and saving people is part of her job.
She only did her duty as a physician earlier and he paid the consultation fee a patient should pay.
They were square, owing each other nothing.
Marquis Xuanping casually said, “Fine, off to Guozijian you go. My little nephew had a mishap there and I don’t want him to cry himself to death.”
The Guozijian.
Liu, the superintendent, was waiting outside early, along with the eunuch, Su, from the Empress Dowager’s side.
Eunuch Su, nervously brushing his whisk, said, “Superintendent Liu, why hasn’t the Marquis arrived yet?”
Superintendent Liu replied awkwardly, “He must have been delayed by something.”
When Eunuch Su went to the Marquis’s residence to find someone, the Marquis was not at home. Superintendent Liu sent a guard to notify him while he and Eunuch Su hurried to the Guozijian.
“Oh, my…” Eunuch Su was getting anxious, “This matter is neither small nor big but the Empress Dowager is worried about the safety of the Seventh Prince. Since his birth, he has never been away from the Empress Dowager, and suddenly was sent to such a place. He’s also not allowed to reveal his identity… Superintendent Liu, you’re probably unaware that on his first day of school, the Seventh Prince was bullied.”
In truth, it was just a minor collision between two children. But people always tend to favor their own children and unconsciously distort the truth.
“What’s going on?” Superintendent Liu was surprised.
Eunuch Su sighed: “Right? The Empress Dowager pointed out to the Emperor that there’s nothing wrong with the Seventh Prince attending school as a prince, but the Emperor said, if everyone knew he was a prince, what would be the point of him going to Guozijian? After all, he can be taught within the palace library by royal tutors!”
