The Path of a Genius to Becoming a Pokémon Champion

Chapter 350: Two Abilities, Two Styles

Although three of the four players in this doubles match were first-year rookies, the quality of the duel was surprisingly high, not at all like a happy-go-lucky newbie game.

Harry and Andrew had already reached the top five in the youth camp the year Arthur graduated. It was just that their style wasn't accepted by the Otter Team at the time, which was why they hadn't been able to graduate.

Now, after another year, their skills had matured even more, and their coordination as a couple was extremely polished.

Their aerial combat was incredibly skilled, with all sorts of cover, evasive maneuvers, and combined attacks. Their offense was as swift as the forest, their retreats as fast as the wind. Their style was incredibly graceful and fluid.

But Bella and Justin were no pushovers either!

After Arthur had started the "grind" trend in the team, even a slacker like Bella had begun to train diligently every day.

Her coordination with both Justin and Kevin had improved by leaps and bounds compared to the Devon Cup!

At the same time, her and Andrew's Togekiss were showcasing two completely different combat styles to the audience.

Andrew's Togekiss had the Super Luck ability, which brought it unparalleled fortune. Even when its Togekiss used Air Slash at the sky, the falling crescent-shaped blades would just happen to slice into Pidgeot's wing.

It felt as if it were favored by fate, as if the world was focused on you.

Unfortunately, most of her Togekiss's potential had been used to develop its ability. Its base stats were average, and its move power was a bit lacking.

And Bella's Togekiss had a completely different style!

Her Togekiss had the Hustle ability. It was full of energy, incredibly strong, and always liked to create miracles through brute force.

As a trade-off, her Togekiss had poorer control over the finer details of its moves. Its attack paths were always straightforward and easy to read.

Generally, people considered this ability to be unsuitable for Togekiss, as they mainly use special attacks as their primary offense, making the boost to physical attack seem a bit useless.

But Bella had her own unique understanding of the matter.

"Follow Me!"

So far in this match, she was still primarily using her signature taunt move. And now, facing her taunt, Harry and Andrew didn't dare to be careless for a single moment.

"Oh no!"

Due to a slight interference from Justin's Pidgeot, Andrew's Togekiss couldn't gain altitude in time to escape the line of sight of its counterpart.

The moment their eyes met, Andrew's Togekiss's fate was sealed.

Follow Me forced it to be unable to look away.

And then—

"Use Body Slam again!" Bella commanded a few seconds later.

Follow Me has a large capture range and a strong taunt effect, making its control top-notch. Its only flaw is that the control duration is too short.

And Bella had her own answer to this problem—

Her Togekiss spread its wings, let out a long, energetic cry, and, in the posture of a raptor pouncing on its prey, grabbed its counterpart and slammed it to the ground!

The Normal-type move: Body Slam. Use the entire body to pounce on the opponent, pinning them underneath.

With the strength advantage from its Hustle ability, she pinned Andrew's Togekiss to the ground, leaving it unable to move no matter how much it struggled.

If taunting isn't enough, just pounce on them!

Bella had managed to forcibly extend her control time in this hardcore way.

Andrew's Togekiss, taken down in a moment of carelessness, could only let out a series of whimpers, like a helpless maiden cornered by a fierce amazon, unable to fight back, at the complete mercy of her opponent.

For a moment, the air in the arena seemed to be filled with the scent of citrus.

Harry's Aerodactyl rushed to the rescue, and Justin seized the opportunity to take advantage.

"Intercept with Steel Wing!"

Steel is super-effective against Aerodactyl. After a few rounds, Justin had already managed to land quite a bit of damage, leaving the Aerodactyl covered in wounds.

However, due to Aerodactyl's Pressure ability, Pidgeot had to expend double the stamina every time it used a move. Before long, it was starting to pant.

In this series of fierce exchanges, the condition of both sides was rapidly declining.

Only Andrew's Togekiss was constantly being targeted by Bella. It was rescued by Aerodactyl several times, only to be pounced on and pinned down again, stuck in a cycle of struggling and being mounted, unable to contribute at all.

Besides a few Air Slashes at the beginning, a missed Tri Attack, and an Ancient Power that failed to trigger its buff, Andrew's Togekiss had done nothing else for the entire match.

A terrible gaming experience!

All that luck, and it was being completely suppressed, with no way to use it.

And on the other side, Justin's Pidgeot did not disappoint its teammate. As the first disciple to follow Arthur's training in the team, Pidgeot's close-quarters wing-fighting ability was now outstanding among its kind!

Even without a teammate to worry about, Harry's Aerodactyl would likely still lose to Pidgeot.

If it weren't for the Pressure ability draining Pidgeot's stamina, the situation would probably be even more one-sided.

After pinning down Andrew's Togekiss one more time in a display of blooming yuri, Bella shot Justin a look.

Justin immediately understood.

"Follow Me!" Bella used her taunt move again.

Andrew, terrified, quickly commanded an escape. "Use Fly!"

His Togekiss shot straight up into the air, avoiding the taunt. At the same time, Harry commanded his Aerodactyl to use Iron Head and charge at Bella's taunter.

But this time, they had fallen for it!

"Meet it head-on! Grab the Aerodactyl's head!"

Bella's Togekiss, once again relying on its Hustle-boosted strength, forcibly used its body for control!

And Pidgeot descended from the sky, its Steel Wings swinging with unprecedented force!

"Oh no!"

By the time Harry and Andrew reacted, it was too late!

Bella and Justin's target switch had been completely unexpected. By the time Aerodactyl realized something was wrong, it couldn't break free from the forceful embrace of Bella's Togekiss.

The sharp, metallic wings mercilessly slashed down again and again, accompanied by cries of agony.

Until the final wing slash, when the referee raised his flag.

"Aerodactyl is unable to battle!"

The two perpetrators then quickly retreated. One summoned a Life Dew to heal itself, while the other used Double Team to cover their escape. Their movements were fluid, their coordination perfect.

Pulling off a cool move and getting away with it is the best feeling!

This left Andrew, the only one remaining on the field, in a state of despair.

She hadn't been able to do anything for the entire match. Now her teammate was down, and the enemies had successfully retreated without paying any price. She was now in a completely hopeless situation.

And at this moment, the commentator who had said, "I'm personally a bit more optimistic about the Otter Team's side," was now also deep in self-doubt.

Am I really a jinx?
