The Overlord Descends

Chapter 15: Chapter 15

'Hmm, It seems that this really wasn't an ambush or anything of the sort. Nobody was spying on them as the counterspells didn't activate. So it seems that the elf was serious in giving us information. Although I didn't doubt her much nevertheless it is a good thing to put countermeasures just in case.'

Ainz thought as he saw The NPCs returning from his window view. He wanted to go out since they left but he was making some calculations a while ago.

He was thinking about the exploration he was going to tell Cocytus to do. He thought what was the best summons that could accompany Cocytus and what type of common monsters would be accompanying him for the exploration of the lower floors.

He wasn't too much worried about the cost of this expedition as he had already some ways to recover the money that would be used. It certainly was going to be a lot as he thought that this was going to be important research. He would also be using some of the skills he got when he leveled up. He wanted to be sure that the chances of failure be diminished.

With the information, he would be getting now from the NPCs he would make a plan with the rest of the guardians. He wasn't very adept at large-scale warfare even after all the wars he had already had during his world conquest. It was all because almost all of it was planned by Cocytus, Demiurge, Albedo, Pandora's actor, and that girl with the weird fetish.

Even though he wasn't adept at large-scale warfare he was very adept when it came to 1v1 combat or group combat. And it wasn't as if he didn't know about large-scale warfare, he at least knew the basics.

Ainz began to think of his future plans and it seemed that he still had a lot of work to do.

If the information Demiurge got about the dungeon, pointing the dungeon being too dangerous he would send only high-level summons instead of Cocytus.

He was doing this because he wanted to know what was on the lower floors and if there was some sort of danger they had to be aware of. He knew that for them to explore the deeper floors it would need a lot of preparation but as it was just going to be some of the lower floors they were going to explore it did not need a significant amount of preparation. Although when Ainz thought "not a significant amount" it still meant an unusual amount of preparations were still needed just that not the usual amount he made for a full-blown exploration as he did back in Yggdrasil.

For a full-blown exploration like the one he had back in Yggdrasil it would cost a hefty amount of resources, that even with that elf he had - the one who could convert things to gold- the resources would not be easy to recover.

He also needed to prepare to use that skill because it devoured mana that was a lot even for him. Even when with all the extra amount of mana he received it was still a hefty task for him to use it.

.

After a while of reading some books, the NPCs sent their report. He read it all until the next day came.

"It seems that I didn't go out yesterday again," Ainz murmured a bit disappointed. it had been some days since he went out but it seems that today was the day he would finally be able to go out again. But first, he had his duty to attend.

He used [message] to communicate with Demiurge. "Demiurge we will be going to nazarick in a while so get ready. I will be instructing Pandora's actor to take my place here for a while."

"Noted Ainz-sama" Was all that Ainz heard in response.

After finishing his talk with Demiurge he messaged Pandora's actor.

He then saw that everything was set here on the surface so he teleported to nazarick.

He appeared in an expansive room where the walls were finely decorated with black and white gold - A rare metal in Yggdrasil- and had sculptures of angels and demons fighting on it.

He had already told Albedo, Cocytus, and Demiurge to come to this specific room as they were going to plan for their first exploration in this world.

After some seconds after he arrived, the guardians which he had called came to the room.

They kneeled as they were some steps away from him. He found all this unnecessary but it was a thing he had been going through all these years so he became accustomed to it.

"Rise" Ainz commanded as he took a seat beside an impossibly huge desk. The guardians remained standing as there were no more chairs present, and even if there was they would not dare sit on it.

"Do you know why I gathered you here?" Ainz asked the guardians present.

"Is. it. because. of. the. thing. you. said. back. at. the. throne. room. Ainz-sama?" Cocytus asked as he exhaled a puff of cold breath.

"Yes Cocytus, You will be leading an exploration group in the lower levels. Today we will be talking about the troops you will be taking and we will be deciding what mercenary summons you will be taking with you as your bodyguards." Ainz said to Cocytus.

"This should have been a priority since we came but it seems that I delayed it a bit," Ainz murmured but the guardians heard his whispers.

They too thought that it was going to be something Ainz would be going to be prioritizing the first time they assembled at the throne room but things turned in another direction.

"Ainz-sama, Even though this may sound rude, I want to know why you helped the people we first saw when we appeared on this world." Cocytus's question left Ainz dumbfounded and he thought that the way Cocytus changed the subject they were talking about was instantaneous.

Ainz didn't know what to say as the first action he had taken was becuase of a moment of carelessness he had. Even he didn't know the exact reason why he had helped them.

'What should I answer him. Do I tell him 'I don't know why, or I wanted to explore a little and escape this place' Like hell can I say that.'

He was happy that his skull face couldn't let out any sign of emotion he was currently feeling.

He then decided to trust in one of his best and most trusted guardians, Demiurge.

He turned to look at Demiurge and as if Demiurge understood what that signal was he began to tell Cocytus what was his 'Brilliant' reason.

"Cocytus, The reason why Ainz-sama helped them was becuase they were already here and it seemed that they could give a good amount of information," Demiurge said but was interrupted by Cocytus mid-sentence.

"But couldn't we had just captured them and sent them to neuronist for her to torture and gather the information?"

"Cocytus it seems that you didn't pay sufficient attention to the people. Ainz-sama took that into consideration but he also made sure to have a detailed observation of them. Since the first time Ainz-sama laid his eyes on them he knew that they were traveling and didn't live on this floor." It was Albedo who responded this time.

"How did Ainz-sama know about that. about how they didn't live on this floor and that they were just traveling? They could be mistaken for a small village as weren't they more than fifty people gathered? And how does that affect us capturing them ?" Cocytus asked again as he really didn't understand why his master came to a conclusion as to why they were traveling and not natives of this floor.

"sigh, It really seems that you don't know anything, are the other guardians like this too?" Demiurge questioned himself.

"You see the people that were on this floor had limited tents and well-maintained weapons." Albedo said

"What. about. it. though?"

"You still don't seem to grasp the situation Cocytus. There are several trees around them, and they don't have a single house. All they had was like 7 tents, do you really think people would live like that when there is a whole forest around them and they have good weapons. The sole reason they weren't captured was that they were natives of this world and they had information about this and other places. Ainz helped them as they would feel indebted. And since they were traveling they were bound to come across a village or something to restock."

As Demiurge finished giving his speech Ainz nodded as he thought: 'This was certainly thought by that person named Ainz-sama that is not me. I have heard a lot of things planned by him all these years and he is definitely a supergenius.'

"Mhm, If that weren't the case Ainz-sama wouldn't have bothered in saving the lives of bugs like them. He would've first secured this floor and secured the upper and lower floors. But since they were easy information Ainz-sama helped them." Albedo said something he would definitely do if he had not seen anyone on this floor when they first arrived.

". Oh. To. Think. Ainz-sama. Had. thought. that. far. Ahead." Was the only response Cocytus let out.

Cough, Cough

Ainz let out some fake coughs, as he drew the attention of the guardians now that they had finished talking.

"Albedo what do you suggest we should send as our main forces for this expedition?"

"Perhaps we can send out the Old Guard of Nazarick as the main body of our forces so they will look more impressive."

Cocytus and Demiurge agreed with Albedo's response.

There was a type of undead guard called the Old Guard.

The Old Guard of Nazarick were high-level undead sentries which were only found within the Great Underground Tomb of Nazarick. They wielded weapons with all sorts of magical effects, and they were equipped with enchanted armor and shields. In addition, they possessed many refined combat skills, making them excellent undead sentries.

"That should be fine. How many of them are there?"

"They number ten thousand."

"Seems a bit too little. It'll be hard to secure the desired victory effect with those numbers… Our objective is to win a complete victory and frighten those who spy and underestimate Nazarick. If we field fewer troops than the opposition, it'll mean nothing, so I would like to deploy at least double the forces. What other forces can we use?"

"Then, how about mobilizing the Nazarick Elder Guards and the Nazarick Master Guards? That way we will have thirty thousand people."

As expected of the Guardian Overseer, Albedo replied smoothly and immediately. Ainz's response was simple and clear.

"Excellent! Now Cocytus I would like to know your personal opinion on the matters. I will be summoning five level 90 summons, ten level 80, and fifteen level 75 summons. From here on let's move to the library."

.

They teleported to outside Ashurbanipal the Grand Library that's located on the 10th Floor of the Great Tomb of Nazarick. In front of them was the wide front door of the library that was guarded by two high-class golems.

The inside of the library itself was well-groomed, there were a lot of art pieces and decorations that were on display and covered every corner of the library. Resembling something similar to an art museum, even the ceiling was adorned with beautiful paintings.

Ainz began to walk to the room containing the summoning books.

"What type of summons will you pick Cocytus?" Ainz asked Cocytus as he wanted to know what was Cocytus' plans. "You can ask us for help but that will be after you have picked your summons."

" I. will. be. picking. 6. overlord. Generals. Ainz-sama. I. need. someone. who. can. help. me. control. the. undead. as. this. will. be. my. first. time. having. an. army. that. big." Cocytus responded with great distress, as this was a heavy burden he was going through. And even though he didn't mind having a responsibility like this it just worried him that he might disappoint his master.

"Wise choice I see," Ainz said and Demiurge and albedo nodded. It really was a wise choice because those summons were especially adept at commanding large numbers of undead.

"I. would. also. need. at. least. three. eyeball. corpses." As Cocytus went on saying the names of the summon he picked the books which summoned them.

"I. Will. also. pick. 4. Hanzo's. and. with. that my. 10. level. 80. summons. are. picked. and. three. level. 75. summons. are. also. picked." Cocytus counted the amount of summons he had already selected.

Cocytus then went on to another section of the library, It was where the summons who had the highest defense were located.

Ainz saw that Cocytus went to the section where the Raghno and Zaraton races were.

Cocytus picked two of each book.

'It seems that the spaces that are left aren't that much and he still hasn't picked any mage or close combatant.' Ainz thought as he saw that Cocytus was making the right choice by picking all those summons he had already selected but there were still some ways of improvement.

Ainz wondered what type of mercenary summons Cocytus would select next.

What Ainz didn't know was that Cocytus was feeling more pressured as the three of them were following behind him.

.

After a while, Cocytus managed to finish selecting his summons so they returned where they were previously and began talking about their plans on exploring the lower floors.

.

Whoo!

Ainz sighed as he was all morning planning with Demiurge, Albedo, and Cocytus. At first, he was a bit nervous - just a bit as his emotion suppressor didn't suppress it- but he saw that he hadn't made any mistake when they because neither Demiurge nor Albedo questioned him.

Right now Ainz had already teleported to Orario again. He wanted to visit Miach to see how the production of magic potions was going. He had told Miach to focus solely on the magic potions and leave the potions aside.

Becuase what Ainz wanted urgently was more magic potion as he already had potion and the ones he had were of higher quality.

He was currently walking to Miach's renewed shop.

People kept throwing glances at him but didn't come close to talk or interact with him. They already knew that he was the new god that had heroes as his members.

"Is he a weird god, like Ganesha-sama too?" Ainz heard some whispers in the crowd as he passed by.

"Shh, He could hear you and then your chances of entering his Familia would be lessened... but who knows... maybe... It can't be right?"

"I mean isn't he also wearing a mask? The only thing now left is him shouting... I am Ainz Ooal Gown... Like Ganesha-sama"

"What are guys talking about!? He may be much weirder than Ganesha-sama. He Has a mask that covers his whole face and not only that but he also has a gauntlet... isn't that much weirder..." A new guy entered the conversation of the two previous guys.

"Oh yeah, I just remembered that this week there will be the monsterphilia sponsored by Ganesha-sama right"

Ainz interest was piqued as he heard the word monsterphilia as various ideas came onto his head. 'Is that a monster gauntlet? where one has to survive the incoming waves of monsters. Or is it a trial to see who can kill more monsters?'

Ainz began sounding the words in his head repeatedly to see if he had heard anything close to it as he wanted to know what type of thing it was. 'Monsterphilia...Monster...Philia... Phi..lia.. Philia? Necro... Philia... Necrophilia... !?...' After a long time of deliberation, that was the only word that came onto Ainz's head. Ainz shook his head as he thought that maybe the meaning he thought was totally different than the meaning of monsterphilia.

"About the previous topic though, Isn't this god weirder as Ganesha-sama at least has an elephant mask, and this god has a...crying... laughing mask?" The other guy responded.

But... as soon as he heard that the god used an elephant mask nothing good came onto Ainz's mind as he thought ' Damn you Peroroncino, it seems that there are people like you here in this world too!'

Ainz began to fasten his pace as he didn't want to hear more nonsense but the thought of monsterphilia stayed in his head. Pictures of people violating naked monsters began appearing in his head each time he remembered that cursed word.

He didn't know that it was a grand misunderstanding he had made.

'Do I really look like that sort of god? I'm not even a pervert and now they are labeling me like one. It seems that people's culture here is a little weird' Ainz thought

After walking a while Ainz reached the store he came for.

He could see the inside of this shop as glass windows were installed. showcasing potions available but not really available because they were currently working for him.

He saw a grand logo located at the door sign and written below it was: Blue Pharmacy.

He stared a the logo but couldn't come up with what the shape represented so he just pushed the door and entered.

"Oh, It's you Ainz, long time no see."

'Ha, long time no see? Hasn't it been just some days?' Ainz thought that the blue-haired god was exaggerating a bit.

"Mhm, long time no see," Ainz said even though he didn't believe it to be like that.

"Did you come to collect the current potions made?"

"Yes, I did. How many potions do you currently have? I will be taking them all."

"Right now let me see." Miach went behind his counter and took a book from it. He began flipping some pages until he found a certain page containing the information he needed.

"We currently have 80 high magic potions and 140 magic potions. So you will be taking it all, huh. and here I thought that I would be able to sell some. hahaha," Miach joked as he really had no intention of selling anything that belonged to his benefactor.

"Come with me." Miach signaled Ainz to follow him inside where the potions were located.

They passed through a metal door and came into a room where fresh air was ventilated. If someone other than them came in they would ask themselves why there was fresh air in this room, but it was just because of some magic apparatus Ainz's builders had placed when rebuilding the place.

Rows upon rows of shelves were inside the rooms but most of them were empty. Of all the shelves only the one in front of them was stacked with potions.

"Here they are. All the potions we currently have. Will you need any help?" Miach asked out of courtesy as he already knew that the god in front of him wouldn't need any.

"No, That's fine," Ainz said as he began to place the potions in an [infinite haversack] he took out of nowhere.

After placing all the potions inside it he said his goodbyes and took his leave.

'Hmm, let me count how many magic potions I currently have. I first bought 50 high magic potions, 100 magic potions, and 75 dual potions, after that I gave 20 high magic potions, 20 magic potions, and 20 dual potions to demiurge and the guardians so that they could distribute among themselves. Now I just received 80 high magic potions and 140 normal magic potions. So I've left with 100... no 110 high magic potions, 220 magic potions, and 55 dual potions. It seems that I have a good amount stacked.' Ainz calculated all the potions he currently had as he needed to be prepared when using the skill he was going to use later.

'Should I buy more magic potions in other shops? No... that would just create unnecessary attention. and this time it would not be beneficial as I would probably be resented for emptying the shelves. So let's better not buy more.'

'Huh, I wonder what happened to those guys. they said that they would be inviting us to some sort of festivity but I haven't heard of them since we parted.' Ainz thought of Gareth and his group as he remembered the last parting words they said. but he soon forgot about them again.

'Well then since I have nothing more important to do for the moment let's take a stroll.' Ainz began walking in random directions as he explored the city.

-----------

Cough, Cough

Blood spurted from his mouth and nose. He place his hands on his mouth to clean it as it felt disgusting.

Some days had passed since the incident that left him like this. His goddess had told him that he fainted for a whole day.

It was surprising how much power he had managed to produce at what he had thought were his last moments. But it seemed that the power came with a price as he had already taken a considerable amount of potions and had still not been able to regain his healthy form.

He had already told his goddess to buy potions from that certain god as he was almost sure that his potions could probably help him. His goddess had been talking to him moments ago, but it seemed that she could no longer bear to see him like this so she said she would go to see that god.

It seemed that he had overexerted himself talking to her a while ago as he was vomiting blood at the moment.

He hadn't thought that they would soon need help from those people that had helped them at the dungeon.

Ha,

Finn sighed as he leaned on his bed. It seemed that he was the only one that hadn't recovered as Riveria and the rest of the members were already well recovered. They also seemed to have gotten a new skill and it all thanks to the incident that brought him misery. It was amazing and he was jealous of them.

"Yeah, it seems like that"

Finn heard someone talking outside his room and thought of how it was weird that Tione wasn't here disturbing him.

'Where could they be' Finn thought as he realized that none of them had really visited him.

What he didn't know was that they were currently in the dungeon killing monsters so that they could repay their debts of all the potions they had consumed and some of their broken weapons.

.

Sigh,

Loki sighed for the third time since leaving Finn's room. He had finally convinced her to look for the new god or to say the top trending one, Ainz Ooal Gown.

Finn had told her that if she could get at least one of their potion he could probably recover. She had asked why he believed the potion could help him recover when even the potion of the Dian Cecht Familia couldn't.

She had asked to confirm one suspicion she had. It was because there were rumors about how that Ainz Ooal Gown made Miach's child grow her arms back when her hand was already gone.

And the answer she received was because 'when they helped us in the dungeon they used some potions on very injured members that had deadly wounds and were already on the verge of death but the potion miraculously healed all of that and even their fatigued was healed.'

This confirmed her suspicion of that ongoing rumor but now for her to get him to sell her a potion of that caliber was going to be hard. but maybe he would be willing to give her some as his children had already helped her children once even though she didn't know the reason why because they didn't even know each other.

but that was just her hiding her insecurities because she knew that he had no reason to give her some of those potions, and she didn't think she could seduce him to get those potions because beauty couldn't be said to be her greatest asset. It was also said that he had a woman in his group that was said to rival Freya's beauty so that lowered her chance to seduce him.

She also didn't think that she could outsmart him because all those moves he had made since coming to the city were said to be taken by someone extremely capable. He now had almost all the gods and people's support, he also had Miach working under him.

She knew that it was partly because of the strength of his members but that wasn't all becuase if one didn't have the brains to use them capably one couldn't proceed like him. As he had already gained a lot during a week, During one measly week he had advanced a lot, it was something hard to achieve.

The steps he was taking were something that made her realize that he was someone extremely smart. So that was the reason why she didn't want to play mind games with him.

Ha,

Loki thought of how she had probably had sighed more times at the moment than during she had all her life.

Loki was already outside her manor and was currently walking towards the gate where some guards were.

She didn't want to go out since there wasn't anyone high level that could escort her. Riveria, Ais, Bete, and the rest were out in the dungeon.

It was then that she Riveria and the rest coming not far away so she picked up her pace and began walking out.

As she came closer to the gate the guards saw her and opened it for her.

She came out almost running.

It was then that she saw a man in robes collide with the lefiya or was it the opposite, lefiya collided with him.

whack,

Lefiya fell down as she collided with him.

"Huh, It seems that I was distracted by my thoughts, sorry," The man said as he stretched his hand to help lefiya.

Lefiya quickly stood up on her own and began apologizing.

"I'm Extremely sorry, Kami-sama" It seemed that the one with which she collided was a god as he had an aura of divinity around him.

"No problem," The god said but as he looked at the members accompanying lefiya he began saying something "Huh, It's yo-" but stopped midway.

Loki wondered why he had almost said 'it's you' to her children. Did they know each other and who was the god? was a question she asked herself. But she came to a conclusion that they didn't know each other as he stopped midway and they hadn't greeted him as if they know each other.

"Oh, you're the God of Momon-san, right." Tiona's voice was heard.

'Huh, Momon's god? So he is Ainz Ooal Gown? What is he doing right in front of our base?' Loki thought as she heard that he supported that comment.

"Mhm" Loki heard him say but it was as if he was in deep thoughts as his voice sounded a little troubled.

Currently, on the 6th Floor, there were serried ranks of skeletons, that covered a large amount of the area.

Indeed, they were all skeletal creatures, but they were dramatically different from the normal Skeletons or the skeletons found in the dungeon.

By looks alone, the biggest difference lay in their equipment. The normal Skeletons and the ones found in the dungeon were only armed with rusted swords, but these skeletons had full sets of gear. In addition, they looked more presentable than those named formerly. There seemed to be three broad classes of personal equipment on the skeletons present.

Most of the skeletons were outfitted in breastplates, bearing an inverted-triangle shield — a heater shield — in one hand, and all manner of hand weapons in the other. They even had quivers and bows on their backs. These armed skeletons were fully equipped for attack and defense and for fighting at close or long-range.

Then, there were skeletons who were similarly accoutred with breastplates, but sporting tattered red capes and helmets, wielding bastard swords and round shields.

The last sizable group was compromised with the same amount as the rest but looked the best-equipped skeletons. They wore suits of shiny golden full plate armor and gripped shiny pikes. Not a single spot of dirt marred their brilliant red capes.

The one thing they all had in common was the weapons wielded by the skeleton army which were magical in nature. Some had flaming swords, while others had hammers crackling with electricity. Some had pikes whose heads were sheathed in a green light, while others had scythes that dripped a viscous purple fluid.

If anyone of this world was present he would have asked himself 'what kind of being could outfit this many skeletons in magic items?' If it was only a matter of simple enchantments, they would have thought that a certain amount of gods could amass large quantities after long planning. However, imbuing this many magic weapons with elemental properties — and in the variety before them — would be another matter entirely.

Then there were two last groups compromise of the least of the amount the skeletons present.

This group was compromised of what appeared to be a group of roughly 500 riders. It seemed entirely insignificant compared to the three armies that were present on this same floor.

However, those troops were highly abnormal. They seemed to radiate an oppressive air that could be felt even from far away and the aura was higher than the other skeletons present.

The last group a knight-shaped Skeleton was compromised by roughly 200 of them now, warriors bearing massive shields and clad in spiked armor.

And lastly was the last group which were the commander and his bodyguards.

the commander looked like a two-legged insect, its massive body standing around two hundred fifty centimeters high. It resembled an ant or a mantis, and it looked like some hybrid made by an utterly depraved fiend.

Its hard exoskeleton was wreathed in freezing cold, and it glittered like diamond dust.

It had a savage tail that was as long as its body and studded with countless spikes. Its mighty jaws looked like they could easily bite a man's hands clean off.

It had four arms tipped in razor-sharp claws, each of which was sheathed in a shiny gauntlet. It wore a disc-like amulet on a golden necklace and platinum rings around its ankles.

surrounding him were monsters of matchless might.

The commander, Cocytus, was currently waiting for his master to come and give him the order for him to move.

After a long wait, his master came out of nowhere with the rest of the guardians following behind.

"Okay let's begin," His master said as he lifted his hands up and took out a staff of his inventory.

He threw it on the ground and as the staff touched the floor it converted to a serpent. His master then followed by seizing the serpent by the tail, as it became a rod again.

After that, he lifted up the staff where a form of a small moon and sun appeared and became the top of the staff as they revolved around it.

A bright light encompassed all the people present as they gained an extraordinary amount of strength as the light faded.

.

"With this, another staff is sacrificed." The buff skill Ainz was currently giving made use of a Relic-tier staff as if it was a one-use item.

The skill was something he got after he had conquered the previous world.

The name of the skill was [staff of God] which Ainz had wondered who was the God.

The effects were that after utilizing staff as he had just used his army would be significantly buffed to the point in which not even Aureola Omega could achieve. Its duration was for 3 hours, after that he would need to inject mana to the staff so that the buff could persist.

He had already used the skill before and he already knew his limits of which was a whole day. He could hold the buff for a whole day, which then exhausted his mana reserves. But now with the mana potions, he considered he could at least hold out a week before being depleted of his reserves.

"Shalltear you shall open a [Gate] for them to march out. If you need more mana here are some mana potions you could drink, of that isn't enough call Pestonya to transfer you mana" Ainz said to Shalltear who was beside him

"Understood Ainz-sama"

-----------

The skill [Gods staff] Or the [staff of God] comes from the bible.

It was the staff given by god to moses, and in this particular skill Ainz could use it to buff his army. It is in connection with

The battle against the Amalekites as a turning point in the role of the divine warrior in Exodus 17.8-16

It is a buffing spell becuase Moses used the staff to make them win the war just by raising the staff. and Ainz injecting mana symbolizes Moses raising his hands for it to work so that they could win.

It also gives a high buff becuase Moses manages to decide the winner of the war just by lifting the staff.

The skill is broken level.
