Chapter 29 - Call
Scene 029: Call
“How… how do I look…?” Wendy asked, blushing shyly.
“Hehe… it really suits you.”

At that moment, Lucy Mekhael sat on her throne, twisting her body uneasily. Today had been nothing more than a dull routine of sitting still and nodding silently, but for Lucy, it was an unbearable time. The weight of the title “Empress of the Mekhael Empire” made her feel as if she was suffocating.
“I just want to give up…” Lucy whimpered softly. But there was no one to listen to her plea. If Marco had been there, he would have immediately shut her down, calling it nonsense, and probably given her an earful of scolding.
“This is agony. Why do I have to be the empress…?” Lucy buried her face in her knees. She knew. She would never be fit to sit on the throne, and she was painfully aware that she lacked the ability to rule this nation.
Lucy removed her golden deer mask, revealing the trembling face of a girl filled with doubt. “Ugh… time, just pass quickly. Please…” There wasn’t much time left. Soon, “she” would awaken.
Lucy stared blankly at the gloves lying on the shelf, praying that nothing would happen before then. She couldn’t bear to handle anything more on her own.
Beep-!
“Eek!?” Lucy jumped up from her throne. The sound had come from behind the throne.
“Wh-Who’s there…?” she trembled as she peered behind it. But no one was there. All that was left was a small stone, small enough to fit in one hand. It was a magical summoner, used for emergency communication. Though outdated, it was still quite useful since it couldn’t be tapped. The summoner was glowing faintly.
It was a notification. Judging by the red light, it was probably from Marco.
“Ugh…” She didn’t want to check, but she couldn’t ignore it. If she did, “she” would be furious.
Reluctantly, Lucy read the message on the summoner. It didn’t take long for her face to go pale.
– Your Majesty, it’s an emergency.
– Shall I intervene?
