Chapter 10: A good way to spend summer
"Okay," said Rose, her excitement bubbling over. "I want to enjoy this summer, woohoo! Hey, let's check out the latest updates on Daniel Cruze!"
There was a moment of silence before Rose began to scream and jump around the room. "Yay! Yay! Yay! Daniel is coming here for a concert! I feel so blessed!" She paused, a sudden thought crossing her mind. "Maybe I should invite John—he loves music, and he'd be great company."
She picked up her phone and called him. John was surprised to see her name flash on his screen. "Wow," he thought, "it didn't take long for her to get back in touch."
"John!" Rose shouted, practically buzzing with energy. "Did you see the news? Daniel Cruze is coming to our town for a concert!"
"Uh, no," he replied, chuckling. "I just got back from the store. Wait, let me check my laptop…" There was a pause, then he exclaimed, "Oh my God, you're right! Shall we go?"
"Absolutely! What color are you going to wear?" she asked, before quickly changing her mind. "You know what, why don't you come over and help me pick something? Or better yet, let's go to the store and buy new outfits!"
"Sounds good!" said John, without a moment's hesitation.
Rose quickly got ready and headed out to meet him. She thought, It's a good thing I can handle everything myself since Mom left to visit relatives for a couple of days. I really hope I get to meet Daniel...he's my soulmate.
At the store, John was already waiting, and they went in together. Rose scanned the racks excitedly, then turned to John. "Hey, how about this? We could get matching bracelets, too!"
"Sure," he replied, smiling at her. Rose's enthusiasm was infectious, and he was thrilled to be spending time with her. She picked out two sets of stylish outfits, a vest, and some accessories but realized she was short on cash. She looked at John with a hopeful, puppy-dog expression.
"Okay, okay, I'll cover it," he laughed, amused.
"Can we get T-shirts, too?" she asked.
"No problem."
With their shopping spree complete, John suggested they go somewhere to hang out, but Rose insisted on going to his place. She wanted to make him something special. They arrived at John's home, dropped off their bags, and started working on greeting cards for Daniel's concert. Rose asked John to help her with a song, and he picked up an instrument to accompany her as she sang.
John couldn't take his eyes off her as she sang. This is the best day ever, he thought. Rose grinned. "Do you think Daniel will like it?"
"Of course he will! You have the voice of an angel," he replied earnestly.
Her face lit up. "Okay, let's make lunch!" she said. They cooked together, filling their plates and eating happily. At one point, Rose asked if John had any cosmetics since she didn't have any of her own.
"Don't worry; I'll order some from my mom's company. It'll arrive in an hour," he said, and she was thrilled.
When the cosmetics arrived, Rose hugged him. "You're the best friend ever," she said, holding him tightly. John hugged her back, holding on a little longer, savoring the moment.
After getting dressed and ready, they headed to the concert. The drive in John's car was comfortable, and soon enough, they arrived. The crowd was electric as Daniel Cruze took the stage, and Rose couldn't stop cheering. As he sang, she was mesmerized, feeling like she was in the presence of an actual angel.
When the concert ended, Rose was eager to give her gift to Daniel. She asked John how they could get backstage, and he called one of his mother's bodyguards to arrange it. They were taken backstage and asked to wait until Daniel finished his final set. After performing ten songs, Daniel finally came over, visibly tired but smiling warmly.
Rose nervously held out her gift. "Um, Daniel, I made this for you…"
"Thank you, Rose," he said, smiling even wider. She was stunned. "Wait, how do you know my name?" she asked, surprised.
"Oh, you just looked like a 'Rose' to me," he replied, winking. He took off his ring and handed it to her. "Keep it safe, okay? You might need it next time."
"Can I get a photo with you?" she asked, barely able to contain her excitement. He agreed, and she snapped several pictures before taking one with both John and Daniel.
"Thank you, Daniel, for being so amazing," she said.
"It was a pleasure," he replied, still smiling.
As they left, Rose and John both agreed it was a beautiful night. When they reached John's home, his phone rang. It was his mother, letting him know she was back. John apologized to Rose. "I think you'll have to stay at Sarah's tonight."
"No problem," she replied. He dropped her off at Sarah's, who lived conveniently next door to their friend Sam. Rose knocked, and Sarah opened the door.
"Hey, Sarah, sorry for dropping in like this. Can I stay here tonight?"
"Of course! I'm alone, too—my parents went to visit relatives, and I sent my sisters Maddie and Lily with them. You're more than welcome!"
Sarah gave Rose a set of pajamas, and they settled in to sleep in the hall, as Sarah's younger sisters were afraid to be alone.
As they settled down, Maddie stared at Rose and asked, "Are you Sarah's…?"
Sarah blushed and laughed, "No, no! She's my best friend. Now, everyone get some sleep!" She glanced at Rose, who chuckled.
"Thanks for letting me stay, Sarah," Rose said softly.
Sarah smiled back. "Anytime."
