Chapter 43: The Possessive Girlfriend I once Had
"Welcome to Alies Seres," said a man armed with a bow as he held the door open for us. We stepped inside, and I couldn't help but be struck speechless.
"Wow." The word escaped me before I could stop it. When I first heard the term café, I wasn't expecting much—just a cozy little spot, maybe. But this? This was no ordinary café. The place was extravagant in every sense of the word. From the lavish decor to the polished staff moving with effortless grace, everything exuded a level of sophistication that made it clear: this wasn't a place for lower ranker or common folks. No, this café catered to the elite—those earning more than two thousand points a month, at the very least.
"Let's sit there," Lily suggested, though it wasn't much of a suggestion since she was already pulling me toward the seat she'd chosen.
The café was two stories high, with an open mezzanine offering a view of the lower floor. It seemed most patrons preferred sitting upstairs; the place buzzed with quiet conversations, laughter, and the faint clinking of cutlery.
"Waiter!" Selena called out, her voice brimming with excitement.
I glanced at her, puzzled.
Why is she so excited?
'That's because she sees this as a date, unlike a certain dense fool who remains perpetually clueless,' Nelia's voice chimed in my head, laced with her usual sarcasm.
Her audacity was starting to annoy me.
She clearly didn't fear me enough to keep her snide remarks in check. Fine.
'Nelia, for your first punishment, I will make my personal maid in my new room. Permanently visible. You'll do all the chores, every single one of them, and I'll make sure you become obedient. Oh, the things I'll have you do…' I thought, unable to hold back a grin.
Her shiver in response was satisfying.
That should shut her up for now.
"Yes, what would you like?" a waitress asked, appearing at our table with a polished smile. She handed us menus with practiced grace.
I took one of them then looked through.
Wait.
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?!
A cup of water was thirty points?
Thirty? For water?
"I'll have the melted—" Selena began, only to stop mid-sentence.
"What's wrong?" I asked, glancing up from my menu.
"…" Selena said nothing, her gaze fixed elsewhere. Following her line of sight, I noticed the waitress staring at me strangely.
"What would you want, handsome?" she asked, gently holding my hand.
Handsome?
When did I become handsome?
'Don't let her deceive you… YOU ARE WORSE THAN AVERAGE!' screamed an aggrieved Nelia. It seems she really dreaded my plans. Well, that only makes me want to do it more.
'Just shut it.'
I knew she was just messing with me.
Could it be she thought I was some sort of noble?
"Um… this one, please," I said, yanking her hand away from mine before pointing toward the cheapest food I could. "Give her this," I added, pointing to what I guessed Selena wanted to order before blanking out for whatever reason.
"All right." She was all smiles as she walked away. For some reason, she was blushing like some idiot.
Damn.
No one is normal in this world.
"Wait here," said Selena, getting up from her seat.
"Why?" I asked with a frown. "We just got here," I added.
"I want to change my order," she said, pointing toward the receding waiter.
"We can always just call her back," I said, about to do so, but she placed a finger on my lips.
Soft.
"I also want to fix my makeup while I'm at it," she said with a smile that just didn't look right.
"But you don't have any makeup on," I said.
I mean, I didn't see any makeup.
Or was I going blind?
"I do, but it's just faint. I don't need much makeup to look good for you, or do I?" she said with a smirk, but the smirk just didn't look as carefree as the one she always made. Something was definitely up. If I didn't know better, I'd say she was pissed.
"You—" I tried to say something, but she smiled and walked away toward the direction the waiter walked off to.
'Why do I have a bad feeling about this?'
'Why do you think you're average?' asked Nelia.
'I don't think. I know I'm average.'
'Why?'
'You just said it too, didn't you? So why are you even asking?'
'That was just me….' She stopped talking.
'You what?'
'You're an idiot.'
'Well, it's okay since it's coming from one,' I shrugged.
'Why are you so dense toward women?'
'Well… that's probably because I only ever had one girlfriend. She wasn't someone who liked me around other girls, so she always stuck close to me, chasing them away. I was a loner, and she was literally the only person I talked to for as long as I can remember. She was the one who made me realize I was average. She said it countless times, and I realized it with time. I am average. But, she said she didn't care about my looks; she still liked me the way I was,'
I thought back about Renay.
Thinking about her, there was something strange I just didn't get to understand about her.
The way she got all controlling when I talked to some girls and the way I never got to see those girls I talked to after that. Oh well, I never regretted having her as my girlfriend. She made my colorless world fun, at least while it lasted.
'Who… was that girl?' Nelia asked. I couldn't help but sense some anger in her tone. Why, though?
'Someone,' I replied, and my eyes drifted to the girl who walked over to me.
"Hi! We are in the same class, right?!" she smiled beautifully, enough for some guys around me to forget they brought a girl with them. Well, it wasn't really their fault, though; it was this girl doing what she always does.
"Liliana," I muttered under my breath.
Fuck.
