The New Story of Lona Falldin

Chapter 3: 3. Tavern.

Chapter 3

As soon as I accepted the changes, I felt a pleasant warmth pass over my skin.

"So this is what it feels like to have increased magic resistance," I muttered, examining my hand with its completely unchanged tanned skin color. "At least it's painless."

Without wasting much time, I moved on. I moved forward carefully, periodically encountering aggressive rats that died very quickly from the fire of my lantern. For the most part, this sewer resembled a game, with the only difference being that the scale here was larger. Where in the game only one person could fit in width, here three could easily fit, so I didn't immediately notice the cesspool and the small wooden bridge that could be crossed.

"I don't understand how some people even go so far as to live in the sewer? In the same forest, despite the presence of wild animals, there is a better chance of survival. - I shook my head, collecting the drop from the 7th mutated mouse. Why did I ask myself such a question? Because I had just reached the place where the bed linen was laid out, there was a shabby old chest, and in the corner there was a diary with a small piece of coal.

- A familiar place. - Inspecting this place, I went to the diary and opened it. - If I remember correctly, this was the diary of that same Fayre that justice was talking about.

I was born a half-breed, this is my cross that I must carry with me for the rest of my life.

Monsters... They suddenly invaded the monastery through the center of the city. I should have been scared. I should have felt bad.

But this did not happen. They killed everyone who offended me, who teased me, who hurt me. And I...

I'm still alive.

Maybe it was a gift from a saint? Or even the liars, sinners and infidels themselves?

Anyway, thank you, I am grateful.

The priests are all dead, their deaths were horrible. Haha, how wonderful.

They deserved it. All the torture I suffered from them. When they touched me... And raped me...

I believed in them, I trusted them! But they betrayed me... And I hate them...

I am glad that they are dead...

Dead ... The local church has been crying for exterminatus for a long time now - I said out loud, and then shuddered a little, remembering the abundance of crap that was happening in Warhammer. - How good that I did not end up in that crazy little world.

There were other entries in the diary, about how she was able to get into the city because she was among the first refugees, about how she was also given a task for rats, only kicking them with an ordinary stick turned out to be not a very effective method and she had to sit in the sewers, while also fighting off other refugees. The worst thing was that she was able to find signs of a beginning infection spreading through the sewers, which directly indicated the approaching fog. Another interesting point was that it seemed that not everyone can summon a dark cauldron for cooking and even fewer people can make dry food and potions in it. She wrote how she envied such people, because if she had such an ability, she could already live peacefully in the local tavern, selling food that does not spoil for a long time at a price almost 10 times higher than the price of raw meat. Her notes ended with her deciding to go check out the sounds coming from the end of the sewer, as if someone was digging something.

- Luckily, I remember what is at the end of the sewer and the only reason why I should probably go there is to check if I get experience for passing the traps. And then I'll go turn in the quest. I have no desire to risk being raped to death by a trio of okroids for the sake of a sword, as happened to Feyra.

Having put the diary in my inventory, I headed to the chest and upon opening it, I was met by another game convention that had crossed over into the real world.

A small window opened in front of me, in which on the left side was my inventory, the maximum weight allowed for me and how much of this weight was already filled with things, and on the right side, what was in the chest, and also a little higher, how much all the contents would cost in trade points and its weight. With my 0 in wisdom, these pitchforks weighing 12 kilograms, which are not clear why, will cost only 101 trade points.

Since I had more than 100 kilograms of space in my inventory, I calmly took them and even threw them into the quick access slot just in case, after all, against humanoids in the game, the flashlight was not very good, unless you pump a lot of survival, but the build through traps and a flashlight does not sound very fun, unless you use mines.

Having dealt with this place, I moved on. Having received the 3rd level and killed 2 more mutated rats, thereby successfully completing my quest, I came across a wall on which a red abomination slightly resembling flesh was growing. Seeing this, panic overwhelmed me and, without thinking, I rushed to the exit from the sewers, and then ran to probably the only place that seemed more or less safe, namely the tavern "Burning Barrel" in which I, in fact, received the quest for rat tails.

I came to my senses only when I found myself in front of the entrance doors and was breathing heavily due to almost half an hour of running. I was shaking all over, from simply animal horror that took root in my body before the dark gloom.

Having caught my breath, I finally entered the tavern. Inside, it resembled a fantasy tavern, although since, by the way, fantasy has a dark prefix, in many places you could see the aftermath of drunken fights. There were stains of dried blood on the floor, piles of untaken out garbage were visible in the corners, as well as puddles of vomit and sperm? In general, the smell was certainly not super, but certainly better than in the sewers. Perhaps the only two places that looked really clean were the corner where the mercenary guild workers, dressed in neat black suits, were separated from the rest by a counter, as well as the kitchen area, which was also separated by a counter behind which stood a truly huge woman, whom everyone calls Big Mom.

I headed towards the worker who stood behind the mercenary guild counter.

- Hmmm? You must be Lona, right? - the man looked up at me.

- Yes, I'm about the task from the sewers. There was an infection! The same as in Sibares before the disaster!

- Quiet! – the worker interrupted me, raising his voice, and then added more calmly, pointing to a chair. – Sit down. I understand, thank you.

- Your worker is dead, she was killed by orcoids, it looks like they were able to dig a path underground right into the sewers, I did not dare to attack them. – Although I did not go in reality to see if this was really so, but Feyra's diary leaves no doubt.

- Shh... This is very bad, we will send someone to deal with this. – the man grimaced, already anticipating new problems. – Did you collect 8 rat tails?

- Yes, here they are. – I took the rat tails out of my inventory and handed them to the employee.

- Well. You are lucky, today we are updating the task board, and since you have done much more than expected of you, your reward will be a little higher. - Saying this, the man put 3 large copper coins on the table in front of me.

- Go to the task board and see if there are any tasks you would like to complete.

- Thank you. - I thanked him and took the coins and whispered "inventory".

Having decided to do as I was offered, I headed to the task board, which was nailed to the wall opposite the guild counter.

The tasks there, oddly enough, were not much different from the game ones.

A standard quest to collect White Dragon grass for a local slightly crazy doctor, without whom survival nevertheless became much more difficult. After all, he was the one who could treat all sorts of unpleasant injuries. And the quests with him are quite profitable.

Next is a quest that I will never agree to take on until I get normal magic capable of protecting me from all sides, namely, Clearing the Crystal Mine. The essence of this quest was to clean out the parasites in a dark mine, which, by the way, came from the demons of the flesh and will really want to climb into the anus and devour the careless traveler from the inside.

Risen dead in the cemetery. As surprising as it may be, but this is, in fact, the easiest quest of all. Here you need to destroy 20 undead, which are very weak against fire. In the game, for any undead, except for the berserker boss, one use of a lantern was enough, and you could also take a companion with you who would do all the work for you.

The only thing they are afraid of is YOU! - and this is a quest to kill orcoids, or to be more precise, to get their ears, although unlike the game, here you need 20 pieces and not 10, however, it is logical, because you can cut off 2 ears from one creature, and in the game only 1 dropped, and in the game this quest was not immediately available.

And finally, a quest that I will only go on after I can use magic. Help find the missing caravan. The problem with this quest is that the caravan has been captured by orcoids, who have built their camp around it. In other words, you can only go there if you are very good at hiding, and simply confirm that the men are dead and orcoids and ogres are mating with the women and leave, or if you are strong enough to cut out or incinerate all these creatures, while also having a chance to save the slaves who managed to retain their sanity. It is quite natural that I prefer the second option.

Having looked at these options, I decided to choose the one that suited me perfectly now, namely, clearing out the undead.
