Chapter 74: C-Rank
Meanwhile, Katrina, the guild receptionist, hastily approached Desmond upon his arrival. Her breath came in quick gasps as she hurried over to him.
"Congratulations, Master Desmond," she managed to say while panting. "You are now eligible to re-register as a mercenary."
Desmond's servants were caught off guard by this news, though they concealed their surprise on their faces. Their eyes, however, betrayed their astonishment.
Desmond cleared his throat, sensing the need for privacy. "Let's discuss this inside, shall we?"
"Yes, Master," Katrina replied, still attempting to catch her breath. Her flushed face and heaving chest, combined with her tousled hair and flustered appearance, held an allure that could captivate any man, irrespective of her attractive figure.
...
In the dining room, serving also as the living space, Desmond and Katrina took their seats across from each other, while the servants waited outside.
"Before we proceed," Desmond began, "allow me to introduce myself. I am Desmond, the son of Leona and Bastian."
"Hello, Master," Katrina greeted, bowing her head respectfully. "I am Katrina, the guild master's right-hand."
Katrina introduced herself, a professional smile gracing her lips.
"Let's get straight to the point," Desmond continued. "I wish to acquire the information you obtained from Master Grimm. In return, you will join the guild without undergoing the customary evaluation and be promoted to Rank C immediately."
Desmond's expression shifted multiple times—first shock, then suspicion, and finally settling into an inscrutable mask.
"I see," he responded in a cold tone, distinct from his previous demeanor. "That's not sufficient."
Desmond understood that negotiations were about finding a mutually advantageous outcome. Losing the negotiation would leave him empty-handed.
Katrina furrowed her brow, dismissing Desmond's audacity. "Don't be so arrogant, young man. My offer exceeds your expectations."
Despite witnessing his prowess as a first-class swordsman, she still regarded Desmond as a child under the Master Witch's protection. In her estimation, even with his current strength, facing a band of thieves would prove challenging, let alone an army of soldiers or a formidable beast from the Beast Race.
'He may possess strength, but he is still just a child,' she silently concluded.
Undeterred, Desmond maintained his composure. He could sense the desperation emanating from Katrina, who seemed unwilling to abandon the negotiations at any cost.
"Wait a moment," Katrina interjected after a brief period of silence.
Desmond could perceive the intensity emanating from her being, despite not being a Master Wizard. Even so, anyone in close proximity could sense that they were engaged in a form of communication.
...
Several more minutes elapsed, during which Desmond observed Katrina nodding repeatedly before refocusing her attention on him.
"What is your request?" she inquired.
Desmond couldn't contain his excitement. "Anything?" he inquired, seeking confirmation.
"Yes, anything," Katrina affirmed.
Seizing the opportunity, Desmond made an audacious demand. "I require an immediate sum of 100,000 gold coins."
Desmond's servant, who had overheard his brazen proclamation, was flabbergasted. Even Katrina, perpetually composed and professional, was taken aback.
"How valuable is this information?" she asked anxiously. "100,000 guild coins is equivalent to the salary of a grandmaster."
Despite her vexation, Katrina managed to regain her composure.
"It holds enough value to alter the destiny of the Northern Kingdom," Desmond replied confidently. He possessed an unwavering belief in the significance of the information he had acquired, suspecting that even the king himself would be astounded by its implications.
Katrina was astounded. She recognized the information held immense importance, but the extent of its gravity remained unbeknownst to her. Hearing Desmond articulate it firsthand left her utterly astonished.
"I will promptly relay this proposition to the guild master, but before that..." She retrieved a parchment akin to the one Desmond had previously used for registration, albeit tied with a vibrant red ribbon. "This is a special scroll designated for individuals joining the guild. Naturally, we cannot accept someone without verification and a magical bond."
Katrina extended the scroll, noticeably shorter in length but adorned with a faint purple glow along its edges. "Do I need to offer more blood?"
"No, this time you need only channel your energy into the scroll," she elucidated. "The scroll will automatically record all your pertinent information."
Following her instructions, Desmond attempted to imbue the scroll with his energy.

As Desmond granted permission to the system, he sensed an 'alien' energy infiltrate his being.

Meanwhile, Katrina observed as Desmond halted the flow of his energy, a sly smile adorning her countenance. She anticipated the appearance of information on the scroll but noticed Desmond's cessation of energy channeling.
"What's the matter, Master Desmond?" Katrina feigned confusion.
"What's the matter? If you pull this stunt again, we might as well call off these negotiations."
Katrina's patience wore thin. She yearned to delve into Desmond's mind immediately, but the Guild Master's admonition resonated within her. "I apologize, Master Desmond. Let us attempt once more."
She retrieved another scroll, unveiling it as she had previously. Desmond noticed a golden radiance enveloping the edges of this scroll. He was no longer inclined to blindly trust Katrina's words.

[System conclusion: This scroll is safe. No malevolent energy has been detected, unlike before. The energy within this scroll solely seeks to obtain general information from the host's body.]
Desmond cautiously directed his energy into the scroll, remaining vigilant as he scrutinized every movement of the energy before granting it entry.
Upon opening his eyes, he discovered that the previously blank scroll was now replete with his personal information. "Welcome, Master Desmond," Katrina greeted.
"Thank you," Desmond responded, his body radiating a blue hue once more, akin to when his family had joined the Northern Kingdom.
