The Most Satisfied Reincarnate

Chapter 48: I'm Not Coward

As the altercation unfolded, Desmond, who had been lurking nearby, attempted to draw closer unnoticed. However, his intentions were swiftly detected by Krox, the organization's leader. Without warning, a menacing wolf materialized and sank its teeth into Desmond's shoulder.

Crash!

The impact severed Desmond's concentration, causing his spell to dissipate upon contact with the object. As he regained his bearings, he found himself confronted by Krox, accompanied by his other familiars—a shadowy bat and two formidable wolves at his side.

Desmond's thoughts raced, realizing the formidable adversaries he faced. "Oh fuck... those are ancient monsters," he muttered under his breath. Without hesitation, he swiftly attempted to flee, employing his Custom Spell: Area Spike! With a resounding incantation, he directed the spell towards Grimm and Krox.

In an instant, the floor beneath them twisted into an otherworldly formation, spikes jutting upward with menacing intent.

Krox chuckled. "Impressive spell, boy, but it won't be enough." He intoned another incantation, and his hands became shrouded in dark shadows. Despite putting up a valiant fight, the tiny spikes began to expand in size, growing to the proportions of human bodies, hurtling towards Desmond.

To his surprise, Krox found himself taken aback by the magnitude of the spiraling nails, much like the rest of the patrons within the tavern. His countenance turned solemn, and with an impressive display of strength, he met the oncoming spike with his hand, the shadows swirling around it.

The momentum of the nail gradually waned as if drawn into the abyss of Krox's hand.

Meanwhile, Desmond, witnessing this turn of events, swiftly dispatched the individuals in his immediate vicinity without offering any resistance.

Slash!

Pop!

Those unfortunate souls met their demise with wide-eyed disbelief at the unfolding carnage. Desmond proceeded to sever a limb from one of the fallen bodies, stowing it away in his bag.

[Mass of Unique Energy Found!]

[Would the Host like to absorb it? Y/N]

Yes.

With a chilling determination, Desmond continued his merciless onslaught, leaving no one in the tavern unscathed.

Simultaneously, Grimm found himself confronted by a colossal iron nail hurtling towards him. "Interesting..." he mused with a hint of amusement. In stark contrast to Krox's approach, Grimm simply chanted a spell, causing the nail to dissolve back into the ground.

Grimm's attention then shifted towards Desmond, his gaze fixed upon the unfolding bloodbath as Desmond mercilessly slaughtered every soul within the tavern.

"What do you think you're doing, kid?" Grimm exclaimed, astonished as he witnessed the gruesome scene unfolding before him. However, his surprise quickly turned to determination when he saw Desmond making a beeline for the exit, attempting to escape the tavern.

"Advanced Spell: Dimension!"

Similar to the fateful incident that occurred seven years prior, the atmosphere within the tavern shifted, plunging into a somber gray darkness. Grimm had effectively sealed Desmond's path of escape.

Krox, who had just concluded his confrontation with the massive nail, heard Grimm's words and his anger flared. "What do you mean? That prey belongs to me!"

"Huh, you should be thanking me. If it weren't for my intervention, this mouse would have scurried away," Grimm retorted, conjuring chairs and tables from his spell and stubbornly taking a seat, refusing to offer any further assistance.

Krox's annoyance grew at Grimm's response. "Hah, even if he managed to flee, he wouldn't be able to escape my grasp." Closing in on Desmond, who remained silent, lost in thought.

Meanwhile, as Desmond laid eyes on the Dimension before him, he remained calm and composed.

[System Conclusion: Host has absorbed energy from 20 ordinary individuals with average stats of 7.00 - 10.00]

[System: Host has attained a cumulative strength of 20.00 due to energy absorption. As the host predominantly absorbs energy from humans, the system will automatically reduce the absorption rate from 5% to 1% per person. Failure to do so may result in the host's mental state deteriorating and a loss of body awareness.]

[Warning: The host's mental state is currently unstable due to excessive energy absorption from humans. It is recommended to meditate to stabilize the mind; otherwise, stamina will decrease by 2.00 per minute.]

'This is precisely why I sought to avoid absorbing energy from humans. It would have been better to absorb demons who purify the impurities within my race. If it weren't for this dire situation, I would have chosen a different path.'

'But you've left me no choice!'

Taking note of his newly attained 1st Swordsman class, Desmond wasted no time activating body enhancements on his legs, eyes, and both hands, channeling his energy to augment his physical prowess.

Desmond, utilizing his Power Boots and body enchantments, experienced a quadrupling of his original strength.

However, all of his energy was expended in his attempt to break the Dimension spell cast by Grimm. He knew it would take a significant amount of time to dismantle the barrier, leaving him to rely solely on his physical capabilities.

As Grimm and Krox sensed the shift in energy and observed the transformation in Desmond's body, they were taken aback. They exchanged glances, a silent acknowledgment passing between them, as they realized the danger at hand had opened their eyes to the potential of Desmond's mysterious technique.

"Wow, kid, you're utilizing an incredibly enigmatic technique. How about sharing it with your uncle?" Grimm spoke, his voice laced with intrigue, as he slowly chanted a spell, conjuring a fan crafted from a wispy strand of white iron.

"I see, hahaha." They understood one thing clearly: Desmond would be spared to serve as a subject of research. Their eyes gleamed with greed, their intentions plain to see.

Many individuals struggle to progress from the 2nd to the 3rd Class, as they are aware of only two possible paths.

The first method involves teetering on the precipice of life and death, with their energy and stamina rapidly depleting. In that vulnerable state, natural energy begins to gather within their depleted body, gradually filling it until they reach the realm of the 3rd Class. However, this process leaves them susceptible to attacks from third parties.

The second method entails breaking through the protective layer of a wizard or witch and consistently depleting their body's unique energy. Over time, nature will automatically replenish their unique energy, pushing them toward the next class. This approach requires a trusted individual to safeguard their vacant body for three years.

Even a single attack during this period could prove fatal, and meditating in secret is virtually impossible, as the body absorbs copious amounts of natural energy, attracting both beasts and people.

It was due to these limitations that Grimm and Krox found themselves drawn to Desmond's techniques, which bolstered his agility and strength. They recognized the immense potential and sought to unravel the secrets behind his remarkable abilities.
