Chapter 339: Relieved the Accumulated Stress
As Desmond gazed at his sister's body, he marveled at the miraculous healing taking place. The injuries on her delicate form were slowly closing, the skin knitting together and restoring her once broken state.
*CRASH!*
Alice's body, now fully recovered, caused the ice that encased her to shatter, revealing her standing before him, her eyes wide open with renewed vitality. Overwhelmed with emotion, she flung herself at her little brother, who had been anxiously observing her. The intense situations of the past days had suppressed her longing to express her affectionate attachment to him.
"Brother!" Alice cried out, throwing her body into his arms. She nuzzled her wet hair against his head, tears streaming down her back. The once cold and elegant beauty of Alice had transformed into the vulnerable and spoiled child who relied on her younger sibling.
Laura, who stood nearby, was left speechless, witnessing the sudden transformation of her idolized young lady. She had always revered Alice from the depths of her heart, but now, seeing this sincere and pure side of her personality, Laura's own heart swelled with admiration.
Meanwhile, Desmond tenderly stroked his sister's white hair. He couldn't help but feel bewildered as her long silver locks had abruptly turned white. Nevertheless, regardless of the change, she was still the sister he knew and loved. His expression softened as he attempted to provide as much comfort as possible through his body and gentle touch.
Feeling a lingering unease about her condition, Desmond commanded the system to scan Alice's entire body while they embraced each other.
"The system, scan," he requested anxiously.

"Ah, she's still weak, but based on her stats, it seems she has already made a recovery," Desmond thought, relieved that Alice's problem had been resolved. The weight on his mind lifted slightly.
Simultaneously, Desmond felt a soft and sizable pressure against his chest. Trying not to dwell on it, he focused his attention on Alice's back, where the sight of dry land greeted his eyes.
Suddenly, he remembered the notifications he had chosen to ignore after absorbing the energy of the beasts. Prompting the system, he commanded, "History." A transparent screen materialized, floating beside Alice's white hair, displaying a list of text.
As Desmond located the relevant notifications, his expression sank.
[The host's stats have reached a certain threshold that exceeds what the current human body can bear!]
[The system has detected an unknown power from the bloodline, which is now affecting the host's growth!]
[The attempt to eradicate the power failed since it has become a part of the host's body!]
[A change has been detected in the absorption process!]
As he read these notifications, a single word flashed through Desmond's mind.
"F*ck, I'm nerfed?!" he exclaimed silently.
Just moments ago, he had been daydreaming about growing stronger by slaughtering those beasts and absorbing their energy. The random stats he obtained through absorption had given him the power to decimate the entire North Kingdom.
[The absorption rate has now changed from a percentage to +0.00010 for every 1.00 of the beasts' energy.]
[The random stats have changed to +0.000010 for every 1.00 of strength/agility.]
Upon reading those words, Desmond couldn't help but imagine the countless beasts he would need to defeat to gain a mere +1.00 in energy, strength, or agility.
The two siblings remained locked in a heartfelt embrace for a long while. Such an act of intimacy allowed the ladies to release their accumulated stress and hidden pain, providing them solace. As for Desmond, his thoughts were consumed with the possibility that his body had been nerfed—a conclusion that could only be tied to his class.
"I need to upgrade my class as soon as possible!" Desmond resolved internally. As he pondered this, he felt Alice loosen her grip around his body, lowering her head with a face as red as a ripe tomato.
Desmond could feel his back becoming damp, as it was covered in a mixture of snot and tears from Alice. "How are you feeling now?" he asked, concerned for her well-being. He may not fully understand the complexities of a woman's emotions, but judging by her cries, it seemed she had finally released all of her pent-up emotions.
Alice simply nodded in response, still feeling a sense of embarrassment around her brother. She hadn't expected to cry for such a prolonged period, leaving a visible mark of her tears on his back.
"Good. Right now, we should establish a base in this area," Desmond said, patting her head gently and offering a warm smile. His attention shifted to the barren land before them. He had come to realize that using the barren land as cover would be more effective than building within the treacherous dangers of the jungle, infested with those beasts.
Meanwhile, Laura stood with her mouth agape, feeling as though she had just swallowed a mouthful of dog excrement. The interaction between the siblings appeared as though they were a couple who had been separated for a long time. As a maid, she didn't dare to intrude on the interaction between her masters, but her heart urged her to separate them immediately.
She struggled internally, torn between her duty and the unease she felt witnessing her young lady clinging to one of her young master's hands, resembling an ordinary couple.
Should I intervene? But why? Why, young lady? Don't you realize he is your brother? Laura screamed inwardly. Her words nearly slipped out of her mouth when she noticed her young lady's gaze fixed upon her.
"Are you a new maid, Laura?" Alice inquired. In the preceding days, despite being together while on the run, they had rarely spoken due to Alice enduring the pain in her body and the maids focusing on tasks such as preparing meals and maintaining vigilance, even though it seemed futile as long as Desmond was with them.
"Don't frighten her too much, sis. Laura is a dependable servant who was even willing to sacrifice her life to save me in the past. She's also the one who took care of my food and clothing when we visited Helmfirth City," Desmond interjected, observing his sister exerting pressure on Laura.
On the other hand, as he witnessed his sister exerting pressure on Laura, Desmond found himself unexpectedly praising her actions. It didn't feel like his usual self, but he couldn't ignore the dedication Laura had shown in taking care of him in the past.
"Oh? She must be quite precious to you, brother," Alice remarked, narrowing her eyes as she glanced at Laura, who awkwardly smiled in response to both of them.
"Indeed," Desmond replied casually, despite sensing an underlying tension in her words. He spoke honestly, recognizing the significance of Laura's assistance in supporting his body when he was unconscious.
Is she jealous? But why? Desmond pondered. He wasn't oblivious to the underlying meaning behind her words, but he couldn't find a reasonable explanation for her jealousy. They were siblings after all—it was natural for them to care for one another.
Simultaneously, Desmond chose not to dwell on what the girls were saying. He immediately contacted Annie, urging her to return as soon as possible. The sudden appearance of a larger number of red dots near Felix and his subordinates' location had caught his attention, and he knew they needed all the help they could get.
