The Most Satisfied Reincarnate

Chapter 31: Uninvited Guest

Desmond entered the kitchen and beheld a peculiar sight—numerous ice cream creations with irregular shapes lined up on the dining table. The sight left him momentarily speechless, and as he took in the unconventional forms of the frozen treats, his once-ravenous appetite began to wane.

Alice, hearing the door open, swiftly turned around, her eyes lighting up as she caught sight of Desmond. "Hey, Desmond! I've made them. Give it a try!"

Desmond's gaze lingered on one of the ice creams resting on the table. "I'd better pretend to eat," he thought, casting a furtive glance at Alice, only to find her staring back at him with a mix of anticipation and admiration.

May the heavens spare me today. I hope I don't meet my demise.

Resisting the urge to take a bite, Desmond gingerly swallowed the entire ice cream in one gulp. Placing the empty plate back on the table, he mustered a bright smile and gave Alice a thumbs up.

"This is absolutely delicious, sis," Desmond chimed, his smile unwavering as he praised Alice's culinary creation.

Although Alice felt a tinge of irritation upon witnessing Desmond devour the ice cream without even savoring it, her mood swiftly shifted when she heard his praise.

Alice nodded, her annoyance melting away. "Great, I'll make more." With renewed determination, she turned back to her task, eager to perfect her ice cream creations.

The servant, who had been the one to teach Alice the art of making ice cream, also sampled the frozen dessert. One second... two seconds... After a brief pause, the servant hesitated before speaking up. "Um... young miss, perhaps this ice cream could use a slight adjustment."

Alice halted her actions, her gaze fixed on the servant, a perplexed expression adorning her face. "Adjustment? Didn't my brother say it was delicious? Are you suggesting that my brother lied to me?"

Though Alice's tone held an air of interrogation, it was clear that her annoyance had resurfaced. The servant discreetly glanced at Desmond, seeking his support.

Understanding the unspoken plea, Desmond stepped forward, coming to the servant's defense.

*Ahem*

"Sis, I did indeed say it was delicious. And even though it was truly enjoyable, every suggestion holds value."

The servant regarded Desmond with a mixture of surprise and gratitude, appreciating his tactful response.

Why couldn't the young master be honest and admit that this ice cream tastes dreadful?

When Desmond heard Alice's eagerness and saw her eyes gleaming with anticipation, he could tell that she was genuinely interested in hearing the servant's advice. With a firm grip on the servant's hand, Alice eagerly urged her to share the feedback. "Please, do tell me your advice."

Taking advantage of the moment, Desmond seized the opportunity to escape upstairs. He hurriedly made his way to the bathroom, determined to rid himself of the ice cream's unpleasant aftermath. "That was a close call. How could I have responded when she looked at me with such longing?" After contemplating for a moment, Desmond decided to take a shower to freshen up.

...

Emerging from the bathroom, Desmond returned to his room to change into a fresh set of clothes before making his way back to the dining room.

Upon his arrival, Desmond observed Alice in the final stages of preparation. He approached her cautiously, his voice trembling with apprehension. "Is it ready, sis?" Deep down, he dreaded the taste of the ice cream.

Without even turning around, Alice responded excitedly, her attention fully focused on her creation. "It'll be ready in just a few more seconds. Just wait at the table."

Desmond glanced over at the servant standing beside Alice, seeking reassurance. The servant offered a warm smile and a reassuring wave, silently conveying that everything was fine. Relieved, Desmond took a seat at the table, anxiously awaiting the unveiling of the ice cream.

"Alright, this time I hope the taste isn't worse than before," Desmond muttered under his breath.

...

After patiently waiting for approximately five minutes, Alice reentered the room, a beaming smile adorning her face as she carried a covered plate.

"Tada!" Alice exclaimed with delight, placing the plate in front of Desmond before taking a seat beside him.

Before Desmond took a bite, he cast a cautious glance at the servant, who responded with the same reassuring gesture as before.

Exhaling softly, Desmond fixed his gaze on the covered plate, observing Alice as she instructed the servant to unveil the creation.

As the dish was revealed, Desmond's eyes beheld an ice cream sculpted into the shape of a melting mountain, adorned with grated chocolate and sprigs of refreshing mint atop the summit.

Taking a moment to compose himself, Desmond cautiously scooped a small portion of the ice cream onto his spoon. Before tasting it, he stole a glance at Alice.

"Judging from her expression, this must be her best creation," Desmond thought to himself.

With careful deliberation, Desmond brought the spoonful of ice cream to his mouth and savored it. His face remained frozen, his eyes fixed in shock.

After a brief pause, Desmond's lips finally parted, and he spoke with a stunned tone, "It's truly delicious, sister!" He continued to enjoy the ice cream, sincerely relishing each bite until it was all gone, his expression now filled with satisfaction.

Alice, dumbfounded for a moment, soon broke into a wide smile at Desmond's reaction.

"Of course, I made it," Alice proudly declared.

Desmond didn't correct her statement, not only because the ice cream was genuinely delicious, but also because he had never tasted ice cream in his own world before.

*Knock* *Knock*

As they were engaged in conversation, the sound of knocking echoed from the main door.

Desmond furrowed his brow, as guests rarely visited their house since Leona and Bastian had been gone. This unexpected arrival put him on edge.

Giving a serious look to the servant, Desmond signaled for them to open the door while he and Alice prepared themselves.

"Alice, be prepared," Desmond warned, causing her to start preparing her spell.

Since the previous incident, Alice had grown more mature. She no longer panicked or cried as easily as before.

...

The servant reached the door but paused before opening it, asking for the identity of the visitors. "Um... Hello, who is it?"

"It's us."

Upon hearing the familiar voice, the servant's face brightened, and they glanced at Desmond.

Desmond also recognized the voice, one that he hadn't heard in a long time. He nodded in acknowledgement but remained alert.

The door swung open, revealing a man and a woman carrying numerous bags. Alice, upon seeing them, immediately ran towards the man and embraced him tightly.

"I missed you so much, Father, Mother."

Desmond, observing Alice's excitement, followed closely behind and found himself enveloped in a warm embrace by Leona.

"My baby boy, how have you been?" Leona exclaimed.

Bastian and Leona beamed with joy at the sight of Desmond and Alice, seeing that they were in good condition and able to smile despite the previous incident.
