The Most Satisfied Reincarnate

Chapter 295: Elves Race? World Tree?

As Desmond and his subordinates arrived in front of the portal, the commanding figure in the white robe motioned for his guards to wait. The portal, constructed with pristine white stones, took the shape of a magnificent oval, towering three times Desmond's height.

Its dark interior was adorned with an intricate web of white lines resembling a celestial Milky Way, with countless minuscule stars swirling around a central point. Yet, beneath its magical facade, the portal exuded an icy chill that surpassed even the biting winds of the night.

"Please, clear your minds and surrender to the process," the teacher turned and reminded Desmond and his maids. With measured steps, she ventured forward, gradually disappearing into the portal's abyss.

Simultaneously, as half of her body crossed the threshold, the minuscule stars upon the portal sprang to life, spiraling and dispersing, as if orchestrating a cosmic ballet. The natural energy in the vicinity, forcefully drawn toward the portal, created a tempestuous suction.

Within a mere thirty seconds, the spectacle concluded, and equilibrium returned to the surroundings, as if the portal had swallowed its offering and resumed its dormant state. While his subordinates and the white-robed men observed the proceedings with stoic composure, Desmond and his maids couldn't help but be mildly startled.

*Swoosh.*

Compelled by the portal's reaction, Desmond, his heart pounding, summoned the courage to take a step forward. As his body made contact with the enigmatic darkness, no notification or affirmation resonated from the system. Instead, an inexplicable sensation tickled him from every direction, causing his vision to blur.

Simultaneously, his equilibrium faltered, and a cascade of blinding white lights overwhelmed his senses.

*Whoosh.*

In the blink of an eye, Desmond found himself standing on a paved surface, surrounded by billowing white clouds. Behind the ethereal mist, the majestic edifice before him radiated a warm, golden-orange glow, courtesy of the sun nestled directly behind it.

"This... this is beyond belief," he whispered, his voice tinged with awe, his wide eyes taking in the sight of the floating land on which he stood, defying the very laws of gravity.

As he surveyed his surroundings, Desmond noticed that he occupied a vast, open space, with medium-height walls enclosing the area, separating it from the buildings beyond.

*Whoosh.*

In that instant, Desmond realized that he neither gasped for breath nor experienced the buffeting winds that should have assaulted him at this altitude. However, upon narrowing his eyes to a distant corner of the floating land, he discerned a faint barrier efficiently blocking the relentless gusts.

"So, this is how it works," he mused, quietly noting the intriguing combination of levitation and wind containment. The consumption of Magic Crystals required to maintain such a marvel within the academy was undoubtedly substantial.

Suddenly, a loud noise erupted from behind. Laura, who had recently arrived, stumbled, clutching her head with both hands, struggling to regain her composure. Unlike Laura, Annie appeared more experienced, nonchalantly adjusting her attire and patiently awaiting Laura's recovery.

Behind the maids, another portal materialized. It became apparent that, judging by the configuration of the Military District's portal, each portal required both an entry and an exit point.

"Young master, please complete this parchment," the teacher spoke with utmost politeness, drawing their attention.

Desmond noticed the teacher standing nearby, her hand gesturing toward a speech table adorned with a blank parchment. Adjacent to the table, a rounded square wooden tablet stood tall, dwarfing the speech table in height, with protective walls of medium stature behind it.

He turned back, gesturing to Annie to fill out the form, while he continued to admire the breathtaking scenery around him. Simultaneously, he focused his attention on the enigmatic wooden tablet that had caught his curiosity.

"System, scan," he commanded, channeling a small portion of his energy toward the wooden tablet.

[Scanning the target...]

[Scan complete!]

[Name: Anarchy Tablet

Grade: Unique

Information: ???

System Conclusion: A trace of the World Tree was detected on the material, and it also contains a significant amount of energy.]

As Desmond observed the question marks indicating missing information, he remained unfazed by the lack of details. At least he now knew the tablet's name, but the conclusion intrigued him further.

"Does this mean the tablet was stolen from the Elven race? Or was it discovered recently after the demise of humanity's last king, Sieg?" he contemplated, a sense of wonderment tingling in his thoughts.

Meanwhile, the teacher shook her head, witnessing Annie diligently filling out the form. Only Desmond could maintain a relaxed composure among the prospective students, cleverly using the maids to outsmart the form-filling process. Even the princess herself resorted to using her hands to complete the task.

However, the teacher's astonishment grew when she observed Desmond directing his energy toward the wooden tablet. Over the years, the typically mundane and mysterious registration process had been leaked. She sighed inwardly, contemplating the gradual erosion of secrecy.

After a few minutes, Annie finished filling out the form and rejoined Desmond, stealing glances at the enchanting surroundings.

"Congratulations, young master. Now you may return and wait for tomorrow when the testing begins," the teacher addressed him politely, her smile unwavering.

"Huh? Is that it?" Desmond queried, a sense of confusion clouding his mind. The registration process seemed nothing more than a mere identity formality. Why had he bothered coming, then?

"Yes, after filling out the parchment, the prospective student is expected to channel their energy into the wooden tablet placed beside it. However, young master, you had already done so when your maid filled out the form, correct?" The teacher's smile wavered slightly, suggesting she spoke the truth.

Realizing the unintentional blunder he had committed by carelessly channeling his energy into the tablet, Desmond helplessly shook his head.

"I should be more cautious and refrain from randomly scanning things next time," he reminded himself.

His stunned expression faded quickly, replaced by a polite smile as he responded, "Ah, I see. So, that's how it works. I wasn't aware of the significance of the wooden tablet. Please forgive me if my earlier actions disrupted the academy's protocol."

The teacher's astonishment grew as she witnessed his humble demeanor. She hadn't expected Desmond to apologize for his unique background.

"N-no, no, young master. You did the right thing. By inserting your energy into the tablet, it ensures the record of your lineage for the sake of assurance," the teacher hurriedly assured him.

Maintaining a facade of humility and politeness throughout the day was draining, as if she were attending a grand banquet or a royal event.

Upon hearing this, Desmond felt his core tremble with shock.

"My lineage? What? Did she just mention... m-my lineage?" His calm expression belied the panic swirling within him.

"System, when you transmitted my energy to the tablet, did it record my lineage as Human?"

[System Conclusion: Yes, host. Your original race was Human; however, due to the infusion of energy from another race and the experimental blood, it has transformed into Half-Dragon. Rest assured that the system utilizes the 20% human component as the primary variable during scans of people, objects, and surroundings.]

"I see..." Desmond murmured, relief washing over him upon receiving the system's affirmation. Only then did he manage to find solace.

Unbeknownst to the teacher, who was now at a loss for Desmond's prolonged silence, the maids directed their unwavering gaze towards her, their wariness palpable.

The teacher was left speechless. Her master's peculiar behavior had left her bewildered, while the maids remained vigilant, their eyes fixed upon her.

Just as she was about to inquire, Desmond's eyes flickered with a sudden realization. He bowed once more to the teacher, expressing his gratitude, before bidding her farewell and departing alongside his maids.
