Chapter 182: Forest Ambush
"Stay still, Laura," Desmond said as he stood from the wooden branch and approached her slowly.
This made Laura freeze up instantly. Her eyes widened, looking at her young master's face that slowly approached her, which made her flustered.
"What should I do .... what should I do..." Laura mumbled.
Her face began to turn red the moment her distance from her young master drew closer; she unconsciously trembled and squeezed her undershirt.
On the other hand, when Selena saw this, her character drastically changed from nervous, scared and shy to severe. Also, her eyes followed what Desmond saw.
"This footprint is too small for a human," Selena said, making Desmond, who was nearby, dumbfounded upon seeing the expression on her face.
But then he immediately calmed down and answered, "Yeah, and also judging by the shape, these are definitely not animal footprints." He squatted on the ground and touch the footprint.

While waiting for the results from the system, Desmond tried to look around, looking for similar traces.
"Laura?" but what he found was that Laura was staring at Selena with a murderous gaze.
Control your emotion ...
Desmond immediately sent a magic message to her, which made Laura gasp in surprise and retreated to look back at her young master.
I'm sorry, young master.
Laura lowered her head, apologetically upon seeing her young master's cold gaze.
Desmond didn't understand what was going on between them, he didn't care if Laura wanted to kill her, but this is not the right timing.
After calming Laura down, Desmond stood up and returned to search for those strange traces by circling around, near the giant rock.
At that moment, the thicket was blown in a gust of wind, which made it sway and attracted his attention. Desmond then remembers the rabbit who had jumped earlier.
He then approached the thicket and saw behind it that was another footprint appeared, with a larger size and also a longer finger.
"This is different," Desmond muttered; he then rummaged through the other bushes and found another large footprint.
"This one looks like wolf footprints," Selena commented; she suddenly appeared and stood beside him, making him not surprised because a transparent screen suddenly appeared in his view.

Desmond's mind raced, realizing that the system had misled him into believing he had read the book. He had merely skimmed through it, relying on the system to store and scan the data from every page. The revelation left him dumbfounded, especially considering the significance of discovering Goblin and Hob Goblin, members of the Beasts Race.
"For now, we better inform the Guardian and my leader," Selena spoke up, snapping Desmond back to reality. He refocused his attention on the massive footprints before him.
"Y..es," Desmond replied, regaining his composure as he adjusted his expression and tone. He glanced at Selena and noticed her character returning to its previous state—a shy and nervous girl.
Meanwhile, in the distance, Laura bit her lower lip, drawing blood, consumed by jealousy as she witnessed the interaction between her young master and Selena.
In a moment of malice, Laura silently chanted a spell, gathering energy in her hands. The natural energy trembled within her grasp, coalescing into a mudball that shot toward Selena with incredible speed.
* Swoosh! *
Carrying a gust of wind and a cascade of pebbles, the mudball transformed mid-air, materializing as a large wooden block that cast ominous shadows over Selena and Desmond.
Sensing an unusual energy flow, Selena turned around just in time to witness the imminent attack. Helpless, she braced herself for the impact.
Meanwhile, Desmond's acute hearing alerted him to the danger. Without hesitation, he drew his sword, swiftly swinging it forward without even looking, summoning a powerful gust of wind that collided with the dark shadow descending upon him.
* Scream! *
A chilling scream pierced the air as greenish blood splattered, staining Desmond's clothes.
Simultaneously, as the massive wooden block approached Selena, several other dark shadows materialized in front of her, intercepting the projectile with a thunderous clash.
Wide-eyed and stunned, Selena observed the slowing momentum of the wooden block and instinctively dodged to the side.
* Crash! *
The wooden block collided with another wooden branch, creating a resounding impact. Selena, lying on the ground, watched the surreal scene unfold before her in utter disbelief.
In front of her, several lifeless goblin bodies lay strewn about, their hands clutching swords. The boy she had once perceived as weak now stood tall, his grip firmly wrapped around one of the goblins, lifting it triumphantly into the sky.
"I see... so this is called a goblin, huh?" Desmond remarked, indifferent to the goblins' screams. With deliberate movements, he gently maneuvered his sword, meticulously scraping the outer flesh of the goblin.
"The body structure is almost identical to that of a human, but..." Desmond slowly thrust his sword, targeting the lower part of the goblin's lungs, and with a downward pull of the hilt.
* Scream! *
A piercing scream of agony escaped the goblin's mouth, its struggles intensifying as it fought desperately for its life. Meanwhile, Desmond's sword glided smoothly, slicing through the goblin's abdomen, revealing its internal organs.
* Slash! *
The goblin fell silent, its mouth agape, as Desmond's sword tore through its flesh, reaching down to its hip.
* Pop! *
As the sword successfully cleaved through the goblin's body, a copious amount of green blood spilled from its stomach, staining the ground.
Witnessing the gruesome sight, Selena, still on the ground, clutched her stomach and vomited, expelling the contents of the morning meal she had consumed.
Meanwhile, Laura observed the scene without a blink. She swiftly approached her young master, chanting a spell to cleanse the stains on his clothes.
* Bubble... Bubble... *
A sphere of water materialized from the natural energies gathered in Laura's hand. The spherical form sprouted tentacle-like extensions, instantly merging with every soiled spot on Desmond's garments.
"Thanks, Laura," Desmond expressed his gratitude, feeling a cold sensation as the tentacles absorbed the dirt. He tossed the goblin's corpse onto the pile of lifeless bodies and began to dry his clothes using his own spell.
