Chapter 294: The King Wants To Murder His Friend (II)
Besides, what was so scary about her husband? Even if his expression could look intimidating, deep down, he had a heart as soft as a puppy's.
And a puppy would never kill his friend!
"Alright, alright." Leofric nodded several times, as if trying to convince himself that this was the right decision.
After a moment, he extended his hand to Primrose. "Do we have a deal?"
She immediately shook his hand with a smile. "Yes, we do."
Leofric let out a relieved breath and was just about to say something when a bad thing happened.
CRASH!
A window in the library was suddenly struck by something heavy, the glass shattering into tiny pieces that scattered across the floor. The impact was so strong that even the wall around it cracked.
Primrose instinctively ducked and shielded her head with a thick book.
What was that? Another attack?
"PRIMROSE!"
The moment she heard that voice, she didn't even think anymore. She immediately turned around, shot up from her chair, and ran toward the man who looked like he was seconds away from exploding with rage.
"Husband!" Primrose collided hard against Edmund's chest, wrapping her arms tightly around him. Within seconds, tears poured down her face like a river. "I'm so scared!"
Edmund's breathing was heavy as his sharp eyes scanned the wrecked library. His jaw clenched, and his gaze turned blood-red when he saw Sevrin lying on the floor, the library in ruins, and a lifeless man whose head was nearly severed lying not far from him.
But then his brows furrowed as soon as his eyes landed on Leofric. "When did you get back?"
At the same time, everything seemed to happen at once.
Callen finally burst through the library door, likely just now able to hear the noise inside after Edmund had broken through the magic barrier Leofric had set up.
"Your Majesty, what—" Callen froze mid-sentence, his jaw dropping as his eyes swept over the destruction inside the library.
[WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?! I SWEAR I DIDN'T FALL ASLEEP WHILE ON WATCH!]
[Why is the library suddenly in shambles like this?! Holy shit! Is that a headless corpse? Wait … his head's still attached!]
Callen was having a complete breakdown in his head, still trying to figure out why Edmund and Leofric were already inside and how on earth he hadn't heard a thing until now.
On the other side, Leofric shot up from his chair, staring at Edmund in horror. "H-how did you know that … your wife was in danger?"
Still holding Primrose with one arm, Edmund lifted his other hand toward Leofric, revealing Primrose's wedding ring, the same one she had thrown out the window just moments earlier.
She had done it deliberately, knowing Edmund would instantly realize something was wrong the moment he saw her ring being thrown away.
"P-Primrose, p-please no …" Leofric backed away slowly, both hands raised as if trying to calm a wild beast before it attacked.
Primrose looked at him over her shoulder, her smile laced with something wicked. She might have promised Leofric she'd make sure Edmund wouldn't lose his temper over the matter of his sister, but that didn't mean she couldn't teach him a little lesson about messing with her so casually.
Yes … she definitely wanted him to learn his lesson.
"What happened here?" Edmund's voice was low and dangerous. "Sir Leofric, were you the one who killed this man?"
Leofric said nothing, his eyes locked entirely on Primrose. He gave a slow shake of his head, as if silently begging her not to tell Edmund what he had just done.
But instead of feeling any sympathy, Primrose leaned toward her husband and quietly asked him to lower his head. Then, she told him exactly what Leofric had done to her moments ago.
"Husband … I know he meant no real harm, but still … It was so scary." She covered her face with both hands, her voice trembling as soft sobs escaped and her shoulders shook. "I thought I was going to die … and never see you again."
In that instant—before the clock could even chime—Edmund shot toward Leofric like a gust of wind, his eyes burning with pure rage.
"LEOFRIC, YOU FUCKING BASTARD!" he roared.
"HOW DARE YOU SCARE MY WIFE AND MAKE HER CRY LIKE THIS?!"
Without waiting for the Lycan King's fist to land on his face, Leofric bolted toward the nearest window.
CRASH!
Primrose's eyes widened. Why on earth did Leofric smash a completely different window instead of the one Edmund had already broken?!
"IT'S NOT MY FAULT YOUR WIFE IS A SCAREDY CAT!" Leofric yelled from where he landed just below the window.
Edmund stormed toward the shattered frame, every step heavy with the presence of a warlord ready to behead his enemy.
He was terrifying, but somehow even more handsome like this.
"WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" Edmund's voice thundered, startling the birds perched on nearby branches and sending them scattering into the sky. "HOW DARE YOU INSULT MY WIFE!"
He reached for his sword and aimed it at Leofric.
Primrose tilted her head. Honestly, it didn't seem possible for him to throw the sword that far because Leofric had already run so far she could barely see him anymore.
But to her surprise, Edmund hurled it with such force that she could feel the gust of wind it created as it flew past.
"FUCK YOU!" Leofric's voice echoed from the distance, followed by a startled squawk when the blade nearly impaled his foot.
Then he spun around and shouted like a bitter ex-wife, "EDMUND, YOU'VE CHANGED SINCE YOU MET HER!"
Edmund didn't even bother replying, he simply jumped out of the window after him.
Primrose gasped and ran to the edge, leaning out just in time to see her husband land gracefully on the ground, his eyes locked on Leofric like a predator stalking prey.
Leofric, on the other hand, was already sprinting across the courtyard at full speed. "WHY ARE YOU CHASING ME?! I SAID I DIDN'T MEAN ANY HARM!"
"THEN WHY DID MY WIFE CRY?!" Edmund's voice boomed as he closed the distance between them with terrifying ease.
"BECAUSE SHE'S DRAMATIC!" Leofric shouted back, dodging to the side when Edmund swung his sword.
