The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!

Chapter 279: The Rainbow After The Storm

"And to tell you the truth ..." Primrose gently took his hands and placed them over her chest. "Despite all the bad thoughts I had about you, I've come to realize there's one thing I can't change."

Edmund didn't say anything in response, but somehow, he still spoke through his mind, even though he knew she could read his mind.

[I guess … she still sees me as a monster.]

Did everything Primrose said earlier about not seeing him as a monster just go in one ear and out the other?

If this was the filtered version of his thoughts, then just how bad were the real, unfiltered ones?

"Edmund," Primrose took a deep breath and spoke in a gentle voice. "I realize that I've always been drawn to you. I didn't understand what I was feeling back then, but now I think … it was something called love."

She had always harbored feelings for him, even when he was cold, even when he barely looked at her for an entire year.

But sadly, that love was always buried under layers of anger and hatred.

Primrose once thought that she only fell in love with Edmund in this lifetime, when his communication had improved and he was finally able to express his affection.

But deep down, she knew that she had loved even the version of him who made her cry a lot.

She once thought she was a fool for loving a Lycan King who treated her like she didn't matter, who always spoke to her like she was a burden.

But honestly, love isn't something you can control.

Love wasn't something physical, nor something that could be explained scientifically.

It just happened, all of a sudden, and Primrose couldn't stop it, even if she tried.

"I love you. I always have," she whispered, gently stroking his hand. "Whether it was in the past, now, or in the future. Edmund, I truly love you, and I'm really, really happy I get to be your wife."

Their first life had been a mess. There was so much pain, so many things left unsaid.

But even so, she was glad it happened because without it, she wouldn't be here now, getting a second chance.

After surviving such a terrifying storm, she could finally see the rainbow that looked so beautiful and so warm, it made her want to forget what cold even felt like.

"I ..." Edmund opened his mouth, but not a single word came out.

He truly didn't know what to say in response to his wife's words.

He still held onto so much guilt and self-directed anger, but Primrose's gentle voice and soft touch helped ease it, little by little.

"I love you too," Edmund finally found the strength to speak again. "More than anything."

He paused for a moment, then continued, "Even back then, when I was so cold to you … and … and—"

Primrose stopped him with a soft kiss on his lips. "I know," she nodded gently. "Now I know you've always loved me. That's why, I'm not mad at you anymore," she said with a small smile.

"Whatever we did wrong in the past ... let's just bury them."

She wanted to bury all the pain from that first life, along with her coffin.

She had died in her past life and with that, she wanted to let go of all the hatred and resentment she'd once carried in her heart.

She had been reborn, so maybe now was the time to finally bury the past for good and start creating new memories with her husband, memories that would be beautiful and full of love.

"But I … I hurt you so much back then," Edmund said, swallowing hard. "How can you forgive me so easily?"

"Edmund, it doesn't matter anymore," Primrose said softly. "Because I know now that you never meant to hurt me. That's why I don't care about those things anymore, and maybe … I will just forget them."

"Besides, the way you treat me now is more than enough to make me forget everything that happened in the past."

Primrose cupped his face with both hands and smiled softly. "You're enough for me, Edmund. So let's create new memories. This time, let's make sure our marriage doesn't fall apart. Can we do that?"

He tried to turn his face away, but Primrose quickly pulled him back so they could keep looking into each other's eyes.

After a long moment, Edmund finally let out a deep sigh and said, "I can." Then he repeated himself, this time with more certainty. "Yes. I can do that."

Her smile grew wider, and in that moment, there was nothing else she wanted more than to kiss him.

The kiss was soft and full of love, and it made all the dark thoughts swirling in Edmund's head slowly disappear.

He leaned down, kissing her deeper, but still made sure he wasn't too rough with her.

[I love you, my wife.]

He spoke the words in his mind because he remembered that she could hear his thoughts. [I truly love you more than anything in this world.]

He kept repeating those words in his head over and over again, and it made Primrose's cheeks flush bright red. Her heart thudded like a drum in her chest.

If only they hadn't remembered her foot was still in pain, they probably would've done more than just kiss.

"I ... I love you too," Primrose whispered in between her breathless gasps.

They stared at each other for a moment, lost in the silence until something suddenly popped into Primrose's mind.

She smacked Edmund's cheek lightly and said, "Husband, there's something I really, really need to ask you."

"What is it?" Edmund asked calmly.

Primrose bit her lower lip, then asked in a slightly hesitant tone, "Earlier ... I asked Lady Raven to let me see your past directly ..."

She then told Edmund everything she had done with Raven not long ago.

Even though part of her wanted to keep cuddling with him, there was a question in her heart that just wouldn't go away and it wouldn't stop bothering her until she got the answer.

"Where did you go after you left the Noctvaris Kingdom?"
