The Married Life Of Immortals

Chapter 49: That’s a Dragon

Lysia finally stopped hiding in his chest, but when she asked to be put down, Bane didn't respond at first and kept walking with a smile before looking down at her. That was when Lysia saw the aged look in his expression. It wasn't much, but even with his child-like face, she could still see it.

"Do you think I can carry you for a bit longer?" Bane whispered, and his words made her blush, but then she went back to pushing her face into his chest. She didn't want him to see her cry again.

50 years was nothing to an elf, but that was more than half a human's life. He had been gone for only a moment in her eyes, but Bane had spent 50 years alone. Bane tightened his grip as they walked, and Lysia returned the gesture, balling his shirt in her fists.

An hour later, Bane finally set Lysia down as they reached the last portal, but she didn't go far. No one was around, Lysia was feeling clingy after everything that had just transpired. The portal was powered by mana, so either he or Lysia could easily activate it, but they decided to set up camp first, and get some rest.

The two enjoyed some quiet time around a fire, and Lysia conjured some food that was 150% better than normal because Bane let Lysia absorb his mana. Both of them had enjoyed the meal, savoring the enhanced flavors. Afterward, Bane lay back on the grass, looking up at the starry sky while Lysia rested her head on his shoulder. The crackling of the fire provided a comforting background noise as they relaxed.

"Bane? Are you really going to go into the dungeon for that long?" Lysia asked, and he nodded.

"That is the estimate. I don't plan on rushing things, but it will be only mere moments for you, but then 100 years will pass for you before I reach the mainland. I will try to come back and see you, but you might not see me for another 600-1600 years. It will only be ten years for me, but every three years, I am sent flying into the future. I think Guardian is trying to naturally get rid of the memories of the Heaven's Blessed from the last war," Bane explained, and Lysia turned to look at him.

"How can you say you will stay in that dungeon alone for the equivalent of my life? Basically alone the entire time? Is how you feel about me really enough to keep you going?" Eve asked, a look of concern and fear crossing her features.

Bane turned to face her, his eyes reflecting the warmth of the firelight and the depth of his resolve. "Lysia, you are my goal. We are going to be immortals. Did you know that the entire time I was gone, I just kept thinking about how you would laugh at me if I complained about the time. It is literally a blink. Not even worth mentioning. 12000 years? Those few years? I am just going to get a feel for what your life must have been like."

"You are an idiot, you know that, but... you are my idiot," Lysia said after turning her head into my shoulder.

They both fell asleep under the star, not making it to the tent. The next morning, the sun rising up into their eyes woke them both up. This time, Lysia didn't try to assault him when she woke up cuddled into him, and Bane was thankful.

"So? What do you think is going to be the power source for this portal?" Bane asked, but Lysia could only shrug as they packed up everything.

"I just hope that you don't get sucked in alone again, though, I am less worried about you now. Something tells me that I should be worried for whatever we run into," Lysia said, and Bane snorted.

"Don't feel bad for the losers. I am not a complete troll. I will give everyone a chance, but if they are bad people, I will collect the debt that they owe the people for myself. I didn't sit on my hands for the last thirty years! I have the most dastardly plan you have ever heard! By the time I am done with this world, my name will be a thing that people praise, hate, love, and fear!" Bane laughed as he started to activate the mana symbols on the ground around the gate with Lysia, both working at the same speed.

"Yup, you are the real monster between the two of us," Lysia teased, and Bane shrugged with a smirk.

"Takes one to know one, right?" Bane countered, and Lysia stopped, making Bane flinch. "Hold on! We can fight after we get back to the village. Let's get back to the damn runes so we can go home!"

Lysia made a clawing motion and hissed at him, making Bane roll his eyes as they got back to work. "You are so much more cheeky now," Lysia said with puffed cheeks as she finished the last rune, and Bane laughed.

"Comes with the territory! I am getting pretty close to your level as I am right now. I am pretty sure that you can tell that the only thing separating us right now is the fact I haven't formed my Mana core yet," Bane laughed as the portal opened.

Lysia sighed, but Bane walked over and patted her head. "Don't worry, Master. I will still let you boss me around. Come, let's see what is on the other side!"

Bane then scooped Lysia up before she could fight him, and hopped through the portal. They were spat out at the mouth of a massive cave, but Bane channeled Mana to every part of his body, easily landing. Though, because his eyes could now see much farther, and in the dark like it was day, he noticed something that made him start sweating as soon as he landed.

Lysia looked up at him, frowned, and then looked where he was looking. "Oh, that is a dragon."

'At least I am not the only one that states the obvious,' Eve echoed in Bane's head.

Bane put Lysia down, and then rubbed his face. The thing was bright green, but sleeping, yet from his estimation, it was almost forty feet tall laying down. This was his first time seeing a dragon, and this far exceeded his expectations.

"Next you are going to tell me I have to kill that thing, right?" Bane joked, but Lysia just tipped the corners of her mouth with a careless expression and shrugged.

"Go get him, Tiger. Since you have grown so much, right? Think you are almost as strong as me? Prove it, but Eve and stay and have tea with me while we watch all you, "progress" you have made!" Lysia sneered, and then Eve left Bane's body.

"Hey! Traitor! You had like ten minutes with her, and she already has you abandoning me!" Bane complained, but Eve could only shrug.

"I want to see your improvements from a distance, and you are right. I did only get to spend ten minutes with her. I think that Lysia and I should be able to have some girl time, right? You were watching us before while sitting on the other side of a portal, eating popcorn," Eve replied casually, and Lysia started to glare at Bane, who was already running away, mouthing, “I hate you!” At the smirking Eve .

"I am going to fight a dragon, sorry, can't talk right now!" Bane called as he ran into the cave cursing Eve the whole way.
