The Male Lead’s Younger Sister is Still Sad Today

Episode 6

Episode 6

“The guy who tried to kill me, I can’t just let him be.”

I understood his words – he couldn’t forgive someone who had tried to take his life.

However, despite looking at someone who had attempted to kill him, Raiden didn’t seem particularly angry. He actually seemed to be in a good mood.

I looked up at Raiden with pleading eyes.

“But, Duke…”

“Oh… our Charles is quite sensitive. You couldn’t even catch a little rat that tried to kill me, and now you’re acting like you’re going to do something meaningful by my side…”

Saying that, Raiden took the gun I had forcibly handed by him.

Could it be…

Without hesitation, he aimed the gun at the man’s head. And in that instant, the trigger was pulled.

Bang!

Instinctively, I tightly closed my eyes. I thought that soon the smell of blood would linger at the tip of my nose. However, contrary to my expectations, the scent that lingered was only that of acrid gunpowder.

Feeling something was off, I cautiously opened my eyes, and at the same time, I heard Raiden’s chuckling laughter.

“Surprised?”

The man, who had been trembling, was already unconscious with the gag in his mouth, and Raiden was just laughing softly as he looked at him.

“Just killing him would be boring.”

Raiden kicked the man who was tied to the chair with all his might, and the unconscious man fell weakly to the side.

Raiden turned to me, whether his interest in the man had waned. Meeting his eyes, which were devoid of enmity, I was completely frozen.

It wasn’t my imagination. Raiden had no hostility towards that man.

He was simply enjoying this situation.

“By the way… Charles, are you disappointed?”

“Well, you see…”

I desperately tried to open my mouth, but Raiden’s words continued before I could.

“If someone wanted to kill you, I would gladly smash their skull for you.”

“…”

Should I at least express gratitude for that statement?

I couldn’t possibly follow Raiden’s thoughts.

Without waiting for my response, Raiden left the basement immediately.

At this point, I could finally admit that the Duke didn’t like me.

Given my dull mind, the reason was probably… my mistake on the first day. It seemed like the Duke had returned even more resentful after his business trip.

Since it was a fact that I had made a mistake with him, it was only natural that I would be disliked. However, I was worried that I might be left alone while Abel suffered.

Furthermore, Raiden’s arrow of wrath might not just be aimed at me but at Abel too.

This man was really good at driving sane people crazy.

Seeing my face, which had become noticeably pale after just a week, I blinked slowly.

If Raiden were to find out that I was a woman, I couldn’t even imagine how that man would react.

Anyway, to stick around at the Duke’s estate, I had no choice but to maintain a friendly relationship with him. I had to find a way to make up for the terrible mistake I had committed.

Honestly, there was a chance that I might end up being kicked out of the Duke’s estate, leaving Abel behind.

So I asked Peter how he managed to escape the Duke’s resentment, but all Peter kept repeating was that time was a remedy.

So, without any significant gains, I questioned Roel, who had claimed to have gotten along well with the Duke from the beginning.

“Senior, what does the Duke like?”

Upon my question, Roel began to seriously contemplate. I waited silently for his answer.

“Well, because the things he likes change so frequently…”

Unfortunately, Roel’s answer didn’t bring me any substantial insights either.

“Is that so?”

It had been one of the precautions I heard from Roel on the first day. It was said that Raiden Akarutcould dislike something he liked yesterday.

The Duke was simply whimsical beyond measure. That was why no one could truly understand him.

“Don’t worry too much. He’s quite capricious.”

“And I also don’t really understand why the Duke calls me Charles…”

I tried to ask him about the reason behind it, but Roel just awkwardly chuckled and changed the subject.

“Sorry, I don’t know everything about the Duke’s mind…”

Just as I was about to lose my mind from the cacophonous tolling of bells, I paused. The noise was loud enough to make me sigh involuntarily.

“Well, I’ll go first, senior.”

“Sure. Stay strong.”

Thanks to His Excellency, who now claimed he didn’t need me anymore, I headed to the study alone, carrying the books.

If Abel were to find out that I was disliked by the Duke, he would undoubtedly suggest leaving the Duke’s estate immediately.

However, even if I were to stop at this point, the Duke’s negative feelings toward me would remain unchanged.

As long as the question of why Abel died remained unresolved, the Duke was still one of the dangerous individuals.

So, I had to somehow change my relationship with the Duke into a friendly one. Leaving the Duke’s estate was a matter for later.

Even if I were to quit and get job as a tutor, I had a premonition that, for some reason, the Duke might come looking for us, his eyes ablaze. Because of that, my self-esteem was continuously plummeting.

Why do I keep causing accidents in everything I do?

I followed Abel into the Duke’s estate out of concern, but the situation seemed to be deteriorating further.

No, Cherish. Pull yourself together.

Spilled water couldn’t be put back into the container. However, I could wipe up the spilled water and fill a new container.

I took a deep breath and lightly knocked on the door to the Duke’s study.

Although I knocked cautiously, there was no invitation to enter. Instead, I could hear music coming from inside.

I knocked on the door once more, but my knocking seemed to be drowned out by the music, and there was no response.

In the end, I cautiously opened the study door.

“Your Grace, if I may intrude…”

As I opened the door, the music that had been seeping through the crack in the door grew a bit louder.

Raiden seemed preoccupied with the documents and didn’t even glance at me.

Actually, that was a relief. I held a tray so as not to disturb him and stealthily moved my footsteps.

That was when it happened.

“Charles.”

Without taking his eyes off the documents, Raiden called me.

“Yes, yes!”

I tried not to show any surprise and answered his call with a wide smile.

“May I request a cup of tea?”

“Of course.”

As soon as his words ended, I hurriedly began to prepare the tea.

Yes, Cherish. Just do well from today onwards. And then, let it all out, leave with Abel. I took a deep breath to calm myself.

I was fortunate that the study wasn’t filled with complete silence. Thanks to the harmony of the gentle piano and violin flowing from the record player, there was a slightly softer atmosphere.

Because of that, even the sound of Raiden flipping through documents sounded pleasant.

As the aroma of the tea began to infuse the air above the music, I felt the tension in my stiff body gradually easing.

Oh right, Roel mentioned that I should also respond to the Duke’s conversation…

Suddenly remembering Roel’s words, I glanced towards Reaiden.

Raiden was biting his lower lip.

With a snapping sound, he ignited a lighter and as he lit the end of a cigarette, a red glow began to form.

Seeing him like that, I tensed up again and took a deep breath.

Raiden looked piercingly at me and exhaled smoke slowly.

I approached Raiden with the tea I had hastily prepared.

“You must be tired, so take a break for a moment.”

I thought the tension had eased thanks to the music, but that was my perfect misconception. Regardless of the surroundings, whenever I was in front of Raiden, my body seemed to stiffen involuntarily.

Because of that, even the fleeting moment of placing the tea cup in front of Raiden made my hands tremble. Of course, it wasn’t severe enough to make a sound, but…

I silently hoped that Raiden wouldn’t notice my current state.

However, his gaze as he looked at me was painfully sharp.

Nevertheless, I smiled. It was a thought to just smile and see how it goes.

“Is your work going well?”

In response to my question, Raiden averted his gaze from me, seemingly trying to match my pace, and then he spoke.

“As you can see.”

I wasn’t quite sure what he meant to convey with that look.

Raiden once again brought the cigarette to his lips and took a drag. Watching the cigarette get shorter as it burned, I briefly wondered if I should offer him an ashtray.

“Are you adapting well to your work?”

“I am adapting, but… I’m worried that I’m receiving more attention than I deserve, given my abilities.”

Raiden looked at me and offered a faint smile.

“You’re doing well.”

“Really?”

His unexpected response made me wonder if I had misheard, and without realizing, I asked.

“you’re enduring better than I thought.”

“Th-thank you. I’ll work even harder from now on.”

I quickly bowed my head to Raiden and smiled broadly.

“By the way, aren’t you curious about what happened to the man we saw in the basement?”

Because the office was filled with the sound of music, I had to ponder his words once more.

The man from the basement…

As soon as I grasped the meaning of his words, I hesitated and replied, “Haha… yeah. I wonder, what could have happened to him…”

I stumbled over my response.

The topic felt completely out of place compared to the piano scales that seemed like clouds drifting across the sky.

“Do you think that man is still alive?”

For some reason, I didn’t think he had died.

“He might not have… died.”

At my honest answer, Raiden smirked and raised the corner of his mouth.
