Chapter 56
The four immediately recognized Emily as soon as they entered the shantytown.
Because there was a girl in the shantytown, crying heavily and holding a very small girl who seemed to have fainted.
They had to check her condition, but if it was a situation where she had to use healing magic, all eyes would obviously be on her.
Then, the meaning of hiding things would be lost, so Sellonia quickly made a decision.
“Maxwell, bring those kids to the room Tan said he stayed in. Now!”
“Yes!”
Maxwell, who understood right away, ran towards the kids.
The other three went into the room Maxwell had shown them earlier.
“Tell me. I’ll help you.”
“Then spread that blanket on the floor.”
Tan pulled the blanket from the corner and spread it thickly on the dirt ground at Sellonia’s words.
“I brought you here!”
“Huwaaaaa! Please save Emily!”
At that moment, Maxwell and the kids came into the room.
“Put her down here. Quick.”
The girl who was shedding tears at Sellonia’s words hurriedly laid the little child she was holding on the blanket.
“Cough…!”
The girl named Emily, who had been lying down when she saw her briefly earlier, was now shaking all over as if she was having a match.
The child was even foaming at the mouth. Her eyes were rolled back so that only the whites of her eyes could be seen.
She was in bad shape.
“Why is that? Is this just happening all of a sudden for no reason?”
“N-No. I got some bread and told Emily to eat it, and then suddenly she collapsed. Hicc…”
The girl held out the pink box she was holding.
“Ugh…”
At that moment, Sellonia and Tan frowned and covered their noses at the same time. The smell was so unpleasant that it made their heads spin.
It wasn’t coming from the kids. It was in an open box.
Sellonia immediately took the box and checked the inside.
There were three small pound cakes like madeleines inside.
One of the cakes, which had a golden color, had teeth marks on the corner where Emily had eaten it.
Though it smelled like that, it didn’t look spoiled, so it seemed like she had just eaten it.
“It’s terrible.”
Tan narrowed his eyes as he looked at the cake in the box in her hands. A disgusting smell like filth stung his nose.
“Huh? How…?”
At that moment, Ella, who had been watching the situation with an anxious face, asked as if she didn’t understand at all.
Sellonia pointed to the cake in the box and said.
“This smell, he means. It smells so bad that it seems that the cake has gone bad.”
“Smell? From this pound cake? It only smells sweet.”
“What?”
At Ella’s words, Sellonia’s head turned to the side.
“It’s just butter and sweet.”
Ella met her gaze as if it was true and spoke again.
“What are you talking about? It smells so bad.”
“I also can only smell sweet, though?”
Maxwell, who was standing in front of the wall, gave the same answer as Ella.
What’s going on? The unpleasant smell is so clear, yet to think that they say it smells sweet.
“You too?”
“Yes… That’s why Emily ate it. It looks clean and smells good.”
The girl who seemed to be her older sister nodded, wiping away tears.
‘What?’
They can’t smell it when it smells so bad?
They couldn’t have deliberately deceived her. But what the heck is this…
Sellonia quickly turned her head and looked up at Tan.
“Tan, does it smell to you?”
“Yes. It smells bad.”
Tan still frowned as he answered.
Sellonia became even more confused by that answer.
In this room, except for Tan and me, the rest of us couldn’t smell anything.
What? Why…
“Ugh…!”
That was the moment.
Emily, who had been shaking her arms and legs on the blanket, let out a deep breath and opened her eyes wide.
“Emily!”
The girl quickly wiped her tears and lowered her head toward Emily.
Sellonia quickly put the box down on the floor, thinking, oops.
Reflecting on the fact that she had actually missed the patient because of the pound cake, she looked at Emily’s complexion and condition.
“How is this…”
Soon, her eyes widened.
Emily’s condition had noticeably improved.
Even though no action had been taken yet, Emily, who had her eyes rolled back and was foaming at the mouth, was blinking her big eyes as if nothing had happened. The black eyes that had returned to focus sparkled like stars, and the body that had been playing was quiet.
It was hard to believe that the child who had almost lost her breath a few minutes ago was fine.
“Emily, can you hear me? How are you feeling?”
Sellonia asked her in an affectionate tone.
Little Emily blinked and stared at Sellonia, then suddenly raised her upper body.
“I have to go.”
“Emily? Where are you going?”
The girl asked with a worried face at Emily’s unexpected words.
“Miss Grace! I have to go see Miss Grace!”
“Who is that? Is that the person who gave you this bread?”
“No! The one I love the most!”
When the girl asked, Emily shook her head and answered firmly.
For a moment, the room was filled with silence.
Sellonia and Ella were shocked and frozen. Whose name is coming out of that mouth just now?
In the strange situation, Sellonia tightly held her wits and opened her mouth to look around.
“Can everyone except Emily leave for a moment?”
“Yes?”
Ella’s eyes widened in surprise.
“It’ll only take a moment. I think I need to check the situation properly, so everyone, please leave for a moment. You too, Ella. Please.”
There was something she had to check on her own. She was reluctant to reveal to everyone the things of others that she hadn’t checked yet.
The girl reluctantly nodded and left the room with Maxwell.
Ellia was also worried, but she nodded as it was the Miss’ order. Then she dragged Tan, who wasn’t pleased, out of the room.
“I have to go too! I have to go see Miss Grace!”
When everyone left, Emily tried to get up from her seat.
Sellonia gently and carefully grabbed her shoulders.
“Emily, where did you get this bread?”
“This was given to me by the cool mister I met in front of the temple earlier!”
Sellonia’s expression hardened at Emily’s answer.
If it was in front of the temple, the person Emily met was most likely a priest or a paladin. When she deduced that, Reyev came to mind right away.
Come to think of it, McLion and Ian had met quite a few times so far, but Reyev hadn’t been seen since he was seen with Grace at the Le Blanc Cafe.
‘Come to think of it, it was around this time, right?’
Sellonia remembered the ritual Reyev had told her about.
He said that paladins had to participate in a ritual that took place once a year for fifteen days at the temple.
After roughly calculating the date, it was around this time that it was ending.
If the reason they hadn’t met was because he was locked in the temple for the ritual, then that would make sense.
She parted her lips, thinking it might be true.
“Is his hair blue by any chance? He wears white clothes?”
“Yes! He’s so handsome!”
Emily nodded her head with a curious expression as if asking how she knew.
Sellonia’s eyes widened.
Based on the answer she just heard, it seemed like the person Emily had met was Reyev.
Reyev was carrying a cake?
It was strange. Sellonia knew that Reyev didn’t like sweets.
He didn’t usually enjoy desserts.
But he was holding a pink box containing a cake?
She heard that he fasts during the ritual, though…
“Can I leave now? I’m going to see Miss Grace, who I like so much!”
While she was confused, Emily shouted.
She couldn’t let her go like this. Anyone could see this was strange.
She ate the cake Reyev gave her and showed strange symptoms as if she was out of breath, yet then suddenly got better and said that she had to go see Grace?
‘No way.’
